Recommended Jump/down Hill Bike?

Was recently looking at upgrading my current bike, but it seems I could probably get a pre-owned one for around the same money, and use mine as a backup/spares.

Just looking at buying a 2004 Kona Cowan, but wondering what else could be out there?

Been having a look on eBay, but other than searching for Commencal and Kona, I'm not too sure what to look for.

Be looking at about a £500 budget, which should get me a decent spec for a second hand bike shouldn't it?

Also not sure what technical frame size I am, but I'm 5'9-10 and quite suit a lower back end frame.

What would people recommend I look into?

downhill and dh require very different things from the geo, so which are you more after? full sus or hard tail?

I think I'd prefer hardtail, I imagine full suspension would be a lot more expensive for a decent shock and stuff, plus I'd set it quite hard anyway.

I'm not too sure really what category it falls under, won't be going too seriously on it, just messing about on a weekend at Grizedale and Gisburn Forests...

second hand... i got a trek sesssion 77 for £500, the forks are dying and need frequent services to work right, but it's good enough....

eBay couldn't find one, I'm looking on there for the moment, so could do with some other brands and models too.

I do like Trek, but don't think I'd get a decent enough spec for the money, with such an expensive frame.

Don't want to do it on the cheap if I can help it, but can't afford thousands.

Also after actually looking around, I wouldn't mind perhaps something with rear suspension.

So if anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to give them.

On another note, if someone could help me in figuring out what size I need, I#d be most appreciative.

Where do I measure, presumed it was my inside leg?

As a pretty rough guide for sizing you can more or less go with inside leg minus 12-14" for ht, adding an inch or 2 extra for fs.
