The Car Thread

Made things happen this evening.

Back half full of un-needed weight came out, bonnet and bumper rubbed back with compound to make the best of a poor paint job. I’m planning on having the whole car repainted over next winter.

Tyres are awaiting arrival of the new wheels. 225/45/16 all round, A048 up front and AD08R on the rear.

Was also approached by a local company up the road from me that makes a few components for various different cars to measure up my civic bumpers to make a splitter template. Result for my time was one free, and excellent, splitter for the coupe. Prefacelift front end with the lip and splitter combined looks rather good in my eyes.

Bought myself a URS6, only took 2 years to find a manual one!

managed 2 outings (The first being the 6 hour drive home) before it started dropping power completely, then coming back, going, coming, so I went to switch it off and on again, apart from it never switched back on again because the trigger pin from the flywheel for the crank position sensor went awol taking the sensor out with it...

20180304_125159.thumb.jpg.be46765cb7dfe8a7812255eb277d0e5d.jpg20180306_180957.thumb.jpg.5956c1a485df8d2c7ae34b64a8c38f8b.jpg

Fortunately I was out with a bunch of mechanic friends at the local racetrack so they put my tank on their trailer and I drove the race car (just a little Corolla) home.

Didn't find the trigger pin but I did find a mashed up sump bolt in there that was almost definitely the cause of the issue, had to make a new pin (more a block with a step in it) with .75mm tolerances and weld it on through the starter hole, 4 hours later and it's alive again!

Plans are lows, de-chrome, nice wheels, RS2 turbo setup and ultimately bring it back to England with me someday :D

I'd be roof down more in mine but I haven't got a wind deflector yet, and with the lower 'scoop' (technical term) between the seats compared to the Mk1 it's like the f**king Arctic in there even with the heaters on.

Whereabouts did you track the one that was in your/my old car Ads?  I've searched online but haven't been able to find something similar, just some fairly shit looking ones that are either line barn doors or look like the least impressive roll bar ever.

Haha, not quite - I have been top down but it is noticeably different in there with no deflector.  The seats are quite a different shape to the Mk1 so it seems to just whisk all the warm air out of there.  Even being nearer the equator than you guys hasn't helped ;)

I don't even think we need compulsory winter tyres, just get people to buy half respectable brands and we'd probably be alright. My van is on potenzas all round and they are awful in the snow, but it still got around without killing anyone.

My favourites are they knobs with 40k mercs on finance,  leaving them with no money and only option for maintenance is remoulds

A mate of mine bought a gt86 and decided to go for nangkangs to become a true DK. Gripped really well and left him super unhappy haha.

Need a few dings pulling out, ideally need completely refurbishing. Polished lips, diamond cut spokes and painted infills. Any suggestions on a firm that could do such a task within West Yorkshire chaps?

Bedford was epic. Super slippery though!

Here's some photos and a couple of videos...

Not that exciting, but here's a video of me playing with a couple of MX-5's... The blue one is my friends turbo'd one:

And here's a far more exciting video of said blue MX-5, trying not to spin constantly / trying to slide by "accident" (Plus bonus footage of my car smoking like mad):

Lots has happened in a very short space of time with the Civic.

Weekend before last saw the old shell stripped of all components I’d be reusing and building the replacement.

Far too much to list but the replacement starts and moves under its own power.

I need some help with my LC please :)  Over the past few weeks the car has been hesitant to start when warm (i.e. if I drive home and turn the engine off then try to start it again a few minutes later) It then idles high for a few seconds. I've also notice what I'm pretty sure is a boost leak when overtaking etc. I think the two problems are unrelated but might not be? My current thoughts are leaking injectors?

As it's quiet, and most of you have probably forgotten I even have a car, here's a random recent photo of my very much work in progress Porsche 924:

Happily I'm basically done with welding up the shell now. All the rust's gone, and there's a cage in it. I still need to sort some damage in the rear quarter, but thats not holding anything else up, so it's time to worry about something to attach some wheels to!

I'm talking to Gaz at the moment about some coilovers so I can ditch the torsion bars at the back and make up a new subframe and arms. Should be an interesting little project to have a go at.
