So much car porn on the last couple of pages!

That widened BMW looks mean - clearly not just looks either, based on the amount of gold that chap is holding. Yours is looking awesome too Alex.

Nice spray job on the Yank tank Tom, I wish I could get a good colour match on mine, there's plenty I want to spray. I'll try again once I get it back... Which hopefully won't be too long, I miss driving it big time.

Nah glad your getting somewhere with it dude, did you sort your gearbox issues or still putting it off for next year??

Haha can't deny that. Yeah man, bought a second hand box which is now fitted. My four week tantrum is over now so I'm ready to get it going again. I'm now also on the hunt for another spoiler as I don't like the replacement I got last year. And a roof scoop.

Yeah it's becoming a rolling 40 years exemption.

Plus looks like they're getting tighter with the modified stuff and clamping down on cars throat should technically be registered and IVA'd.

Alot of hot rod guys are up in arms as the points system means they're 40k hot rod will possibly soon be Q plated if it gets picked up on.

I know they bought the points system in a long time ago but seems some are getting pulled up for it now. Not good.

Looks like you have to tick a yes/no setup when your applying for historic tax as to wether the vehicles been modified dramatically, if yes it's off to IVA for you.

From what I can recall, most of the stock blowers have been removed and replaced with a lightweight heater. Not sure if he's planning to run fixed plastic windows or not, but given it's primarily a track car, a subtle scoop wouldn't be the end of the world. Certainly no worse than some of the BGWs you see out and about :P

"If a vehicle has a power to weight ratio of more than 15% in excess of its original design, unless such a modification took place before 1988."

Well there go's my clubman not needed an MOT out the window.

That document suggests it will just need an MOT though not an IVA.

True, but if the scaremongering floating around on the forums comes to anything you have to inform the DVLA if the vehicle is modified when you tax it, then if it's substantially modified it's 'invited' for a IVA then fate decided from there. According to the few informed on the forums too if you ignore informing the DVLA and your caught with a modded vehicle it's a possible 5k fine or 2 years in prison as it's essentially fraud.

Seems if you can prove the mods were before 1988 (the year the points system came in) your sound aslong as the V5 is inline with the car.

My mini had to go for a VIC (vehicle identity check) check after its accident.  Bearing in my mind the engine has been rebuilt so has no engine number plate and the frontend replaced so no vin on the scuttle.

He spent all of 2 mins looking at the riveted on plate on the inner wing and gave it a tick.

They've scrapped that now too though.

I can't see the IVA thing being too big of a deal, any hint of those 3 letters has always got all the hot rod guys throwing toys and making huge assumptions left right and centre.

My guess is it'll carry on pretty much as is, but if your car's modified you won't get MOT exemption, and if you lie and say it's not, you'll get in deep shit. Which seems fair enough.

Personally I'd rather they just left it as it is, as the more segregated as a 'historic vehicle' our old cars become, the easier it will be when they eventually decide to restrict their use like they do in some parts of Europe. I'd rather pay tax, go through an MOT and know I can jump in my car anytime I like, than get some free stuff but be told where and when I can drive.

I can't help think the government have got some bigger fires of their own causing to worry about rather than dicking around changing needless regulations about a handful of old cars.

I can't understand why they exempt stock cars from the new rulings though?

The only mod worth noting on my ford is the air ride suspension. I know that's around 8 years old. Get some guy in a totally standard fairlane and chances are the spring setup in his car is 55+ years old but doesnt need to be subject to a test, it seems a touch backwards. I'd be penalised for a disc conversion on my ford, although bringing the car to a safer standard?!

I can see the ruling for chassis mods and engine swaps as that does require a level of skill and knowledge to ensure total safety. I know that ill fitted suspension and brake mods can be just as dangerous, but why not have smaller mods 'signed off' by a local authority, be it a tester or engineer rather then too many mods and it's off for testing.

if your windows are fixed, have you thought about a sliding vent in the window? something like this:

Personally i think it'd look more in place than a roof scoop

They're not fixed mate. Have you guys not seen the car recently? It's the only thing it's missing...

It really won't be too much of an issue to be honest.

I had a chap chap ring me regarding these new rules and the points system and there's enough similarities in bits swapped between cars to deem them as good as or "original".

They have to be as the title given states, "Radically Altered"

You basically have to have the likes of a Mini shell on a monster truck chassis to fail on the points system, unless of course it's been spaceframed.. etc.

From my point of view as a tester it's no different to a VIC or registering a kit car, it's only those who have something of value that will need Q plating in the case of a classic MOT exempt vehicle that will be strongly against.

Had an interesting experience in this yesterday. Anyone recognize what it is?

irp0nap.jpg

Anyway, after 20 minutes in the passenger seat I had to lie down. Nothing I've ever experienced even comes close to how harsh the ride was. I had no idea that our track is so bumpy :D

And the sound of the Akrapovic exhaust. Oh my f**king god.
