Mark W Posted June 20, 2013 Report Share Posted June 20, 2013 To coincide with the launch of Danny MacAskill's Imaginate video, Inspired have released details of the brand new Inspired Skye Team bike that Danny rode in the video. The new Skye features a couple of revisions and tweaks from the previous model to improve things strength-wise as well as freshening up the geometry to meet Danny's needs. As can be seen in the photos, there are a couple of obvious tweaks such as the taper headtube (internal 1 1/8" top cup, standard 1.5" bottom cup), the change to a 70mm x 25° Hope stem and Continental tyres. Yeah it's just a trial zone caliper with a Tech Evo lever. I have them on my bike and whilst they ain't that pretty they seem to do the job. Due to the girly, horrible little rotors they do make a funny sound when you lightly press the brake to slow down but almost a year in and mine have worked every time in every condition so there ain't too much wrong. The new Skye looks infinitely nicer than the original, and the shorter back end looks very tidy. Will they be offering this Skye as a frame kit, as I didn't see any mention of it on the website? Ive tried the super tacky versions on Duncan Shaws bike and they would have answered a lot of natty riders prayers... Does the paint job remind anyone of the old Ellsworth Specialist frames? They've had the Tech levers with Trial Zone calipers for the past couple of batches of Skye bikes. I think if it's a 'big' customer Hope seem to be fine to make those brakes, just not for a little old shop like us... For natural I can imagine the stickier ones would be good, but the pair I tried had that compound and I hated them for street. They're the slowest tyres I've ever used, so even though they were nice and grippy they just felt a bit crap. The ones on that Skye felt like a slightly harder compound though (more Rubber Queen-y than Der Kaiser-y) and seemed to roll better. Hopefully they go with that for production... I thought it was going to be anodised, but the frame gets shot blasted then has a kind of weird almost translucent paint finish to it. So yeah, looks sort of anodised but isn't. Looks good in the flesh though I'd agree about the Trial Zone rotors too - I think for that sort of setup I'd probably want to run something like the Mono Trial rotors or something similar (or Saints or whatever, really - just something a touch beefier). This is strange - to produce custom bike that designed for one rider, his needs and anthropometrics. Basically every signature bike is to the exact specifications of the rider putting their name to the product (in most cases!). Danny's specification will meet most street riders specifications too. Not sure if this is linked but Conti haven't put in to production the tyre yet. They don't have a name for it and as it's being made in their Germany factory it keeps slipping down the list of priorities being that trials is such a small market. Also I'm a bit concerned about their outlook for these tyres..... I think they've underestimated the want for them. They commented that they'd only make around 50 (so you can see why they're not breaking their backs to make them) and that they'd retail for a minimum of £50 each. When I spoke to them I suggested they might have underestimated demand but that knowing trials riders seem to think it's fair to pay shit all for things that at £100 a set they might not do so well. Their reaction was that if someone is paying £2300 for a bike (the Skye) then £100 for tyres isn't an issue.
