MadManMike
So my 14 year love affair with DMR ends, my 4th DMR is now up for sale and it's time to move on to "grown up" bikes. I'm looking for an MTB, budget £500-600. There's tons out there and my MTB knowledge is non-existant, so guide me chaps! Don't offer to sell me yours please, I'm buying on 0% finance over 2 years... http://www.wiggle.co.uk/charge-cooker-1-2015/ http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-nine-70-2015/ http://www.wiggle.co.uk/kona-lava-dome-29-2015/ These ones caught my eye, not sure if they're good or not though to be honest. peter_t
On your budget i strongly recommend you buy seccond hand. Bikes on that price range come with very poor components especially when it comes to suspension (makes a huge difference). Suntour forks are pretty pants. Also are you sure you want 29" wheels? What sort of riding will you be doing?
MadManMike
Will they really be "very poor" though? £550 isn't a cheap bike. Like I said in my first post, I'm buying on 0% finance, so unless someone is willing to part with their bike for £22.91 a month I can't buy second hand. When I was younger I had £1500 bikes, but I'm 30 now with commitments elsewhere so can't justify that kind of bike. Bike will be used for fitness mostly, riding through the woods but not hardcore trails or anything, just general riding - a mix of road, cycle path, woods. peter_t
Ok for that kind of riding they should be ok. If you can try and find one with a suntour raidon fork. These are the next step up from the forks on your suggested bikes and can be found on bikes of that price range. I had one on my old bike and the difference is like night and day compaired to a XCM fork. Shimano make some of the best brakes and even the cheap ones are still brilliant. http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/voodoo-bizango-29er-mountain-bike-18 This is a very good bike, im not sure if halfords do finance though. Look out for last years models too as you can usually get really good deals on them.
MadManMike
Yeah I was pretty restricted for what I could get on 0% that wasn't out of my price range. Ordered a nice looking Cube for £550 that has Rock Shox on. I'll post photos once it arrives, in the meantime this thread can be closed.
