Aldred_85
Well the enevitable happened. The Quanta XC hub with alloy freehub died. I know, who'd have guessed. I'm pretty much decided on the Hope SS, but it is a lot of money. Are there any other alternatives currently available? I was looking at freewheel hubs, various brands offer hubs for around £50, then another £50+ for a reasonable freewheel. So as far as I'm concerned for a 'mere' £50 extra i could have a 'hub for life' ie; once I'm too old for trials, i can use on a regular bike. Thoughts? Ideas? Ash-Kennard
The Hope ones for trials 48 or 80 EP will only accommodate 6 gears. However, they do also make non trials specific ones 24 and 40 EP so maybe go for the 40T and then you really could have a hub for life. Make sure you get the bolted version though. QR is gash. I have been running the old hopes (48EP) for years now and they are very good. killed an axle and a bearing. I think I got my first on in 07/8 snapped the axle last year, could have fixed it but wanted the newer version as it had needle bearings. I have hope hubs front and rear on all 3 of my bikes. Love them. That said, I am looking to go FFW on the hoppy bike soon so may get rid of one of them

I'm not too fussed about running a short block cassette, don't fancy running another alloy cassette carrier. I know i can get a steel carrier for the regular evo, but its all extra cost. isitafox
You should be able to pick a Pro 2 up for £60-70 2nd hand, I'd just go down that route rather than brand new.

I've been watching the classifieds here, nothing as yet. Ebay isnt yielding much either. Also wont Hopes unrivalled warranty only apply to first owner? isitafox
I've seen quite a few stories on here of Hope doing warranty swaps and repairs on stuff that's with it's 2nd, 3rd, 4th owner etc...

Hum...well, if the right classified turns up I'll consider it. Are there any other hubs i could consider?
isitafox
I'd stick with a pro 2. Ali's got a team green pro 2 for £70 that just needs a new axle (it's currently 12mm) and an endcap!
Aldred_85
I'd stick with a pro 2. Ali's got a team green pro 2 for £70 that just needs a new axle (it's currently 12mm) and an endcap! I did see this one, does seem a little high on price, especially as it requires £30+ to work on regular 10mm axle. Is the Team Green a limited colour? Also, i'd always wonder how much better my world would have been if i'd only spent that extra £50 to get 32 extra clicks.
FamilyBiker
basicall gives you 1.51 clicks per tooth plus (with a 22T),which is half the way from one to the other click and makes a difference regarding to people who bought it. ogre
just get the pro2 trials model. it's significantly better and more reliable than anything else out there. it's a little more expensive but you can't usually buy confidence, the pro2 should give you some confidence to really put the hammer down and get more out of your bike
Paperclip
I have a Pro2 Trias/SS hub in Blue with the only downfall being that it is 36h. I would sell the hub for £50 bare (no sprocket, spacing kit and lockring) which you don't get with them as new anyway. You would need to find a 36h rim along the lines of https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=36hole+24%22+rim&tbm=shop&spd=12331491865913027144(Sorry for the massive link) if that is any good to you. Also Hope warranty is pretty good they would replace a hub with a damaged shell/ratchet. They do also offer pretty good service prices at around £40 with returned postage. A friend of mine just got his hub serviced with new springs/pawls and bearings for £50 with returned postage (I think that took around 4-5 days) so Hope do look after their customers for sure hence their reputation being what it is. Getting your hub serviced so it comes back like new every 2 ish years for that kind of money is way more cost effective than replacing a free wheel once a year. Some bugger must be snapping up the auctions but it ain't me. I just seem to invest time & get sweet FA. check your PM. If the OP doesn't want it I'm interested... Aldred_85
If i was starting from scratch i'd have Paperclips hub in an instant. But i already have a 32h rim n spokes ready to go. Bugger! Your welcome to steel my offered hub. Lol.
CC12345678910
Why thank you. Luckily I know how to successfully bodge build wheels with mis-matched hub/rim combos. Now all I need is a spoke thread rolling tool to make cut and bodged custom length spokes and I could slap together any old crap I like. Aldred_85
Quick question: Do the Pro Trials freehub suffer from sprocket dig at all? I know its steel. I had a BULB about 10 years ago, which had a ti freehub, that suffered a little dig. Just curious.
