AlexC
Hey,When your hopping on the backwheel, how do you stop your knuckle hitting the leaver? I don't have much leaver reach on my back brake yet I still manage to catch my knuckle on the leaver - I'm always doing it, my knuckle will turn into one big scar soon! brendan@medway riders
try moving the lever down the bars about two finger spaces and the lever should not hit your other fingers brendan
AlexC
Woah, thanks for the quick reply =) That's a good idea actaully, I'll go and do that!
justfuzzit
There should also be a screw on the inner side of the lever that adjusts how far out/ how quicky it enguages.
AlexC
justfuzzit, yeh I've been playing around with leaver reach but like I said, I havn't got much reach so I don't see how I'm catching it - but I'll try what brendan said and see if that works. lawrence osborn
There are a few ways to stop your knuckles hitting the lever. You could move the lever down the handle bars closer to your stem as mentioned by Brendan, as well as stopping your knuckle/s being hit with the lever this will also give you more leverage with the brake and the brake should hold stronger (say you were on the edge of wall and your brake sometimes slips it will hold better and shouldn't slip anymore.) Also you could have helped a bit more by saying what lever you have. If you use a Magura hs33 you can twist the red twisty bit (the tpa) to the right this will stop the lever coming back as far as it pushes one of the pistons closer to the rim, if you use a Magura hs11 you can stop the lever coming back as far by turning the little Allen key bolt inside the lever body to the right which is the same as tightening a tpa on a Magura hs33, if you use v brakes or a mechanical disk you can stop the lever coming back as far by turning the metal twisty thing towards you and finally a hydraulic disk brake if you use one of them to stop the lever coming back as far on the lever there should be a cap take that off and turn the little Allen key bolt to the right.Cheers Lawrence. yoyoyo
Are you by any chance using two fingers to brake?
planet x alan
Are you by any chance using two fingers to brake?i think he possibly is.when i started riding i used to use 2 fingers for the brakes (index and middle)and it was cutting my 3rd finger to shreds. then after riding with other people i began using only my index finger and stetting the brake lever up further away from the grips, once you do this it doesnt happen anymore, even if the brake is set up to pull in quite far. Si-man
If your 1 finger breaking, then move the lever so that when you hand is on the grip, your breaking finger only can touch the lever blade. Gives you more room, better balance aswell if you do same with both
Danny Kearns
Isnt Joe Oakley a 2 finger rider ?Dan.
AlexC
Hey,Nah I ride with just 1 finger on the brake at all time. I moved it further down the leaver and now I don't catch it any more, but now instead of my finger hurting just about every other part of my body does after nearly Face Planting on the floor, but thats ok! - Hopefully my Onza T-Pro should be here on Wednesday, so that means I don't have to do Trials on my Street bike ( With Discs which I bent the front the other day - oh it's all going wrong this week ), which weighs a tonne and doesn't pedal kick well off walls as I learnt the hard way =) Edited August 5, 2006 by AlexC
