*PHIL*
Recently my bike has been un-ridable due to the fact that at random times while riding the pedals suddenly give way and slip round. If you're standing up, you're gonna fall off... If you're on a road, you're gonna get hit by a bus.Anyone know what the problem is? People have told me the chain is too slack or its an alignment problem. The bike shop count fix it the first time so I sent it back again but I'm unsure if they know whats wrong. Just wondering if anyone has has the same or similar problems?
Thurston
sorry i dont quite know what you meanslip round? in what way, they go round anyway so how do u mean slip round
*PHIL*
I mean its like they're in the lowest gear suddenly and the slip round a lot faster than your feet are moving, so the foot you have all your weight on suddenly has nothing to rest on and hits the ground.I'm not sure how to explain better than that so hope it helps. Its like the chain jumps over a few notches on the cog... But that sort of answers my own question. But I'd still like to know what others think
Thurston
sounds to me like its slippin as you've saidtake it you have gears on your stock, mabye try single speed thenit could be that you just need your gears set-up again, ask your bike shop to do that and see if it sorts itall i can think off, mabye someone else will know more

Mr-BT
yeah it does sound like your hub is skippingtell your bike shop that is what you think is wrong and they should be able to sort itif not buy a new hub or freewheeland if its not any of this try going single speednick
*PHIL*
Dunno about the hub but its an unmodified specialized hardrock. The bike guy said he was doing something in that area so maybe thats it.Thanks for the help
CurtisRider
its quite likely a budget rear hub, how old is the bike? if its reasonably new, the gears shouldn't be slipping, although the drivetrain may need some time to bed in, get a few muddy xc rides done and it'll be fine (as long as the mechs setup properly)
*PHIL*
get a few muddy xc rides done and it'll be fineMy bike wouldn't be able to cope its proper buggered. I'd have a few injury's after for sure.
Krisboats
Dunno about the hub but its an unmodified specialized hardrock. The bike guy said he was doing something in that area so maybe thats it.Thanks for the helpLast hardrock i saw had a shimano rear hub I would say that theres a 95% chance its your hub skipping. And that you should invest in something more reliable like a hope, atomlab, halo, king or profile.
Blommah
Just replace the body in the hub.Almost sure thats the problem if it`s in that area.
