Ntl Are Shit...

Hey guys, for a few months now my broadband connection has been driving me mad. It keeps disconnecting, then after say 2 mins it will reconnect, then work fine for a little while, then disconnect again. When it disconnects the 'cable' light on the modem goes, off, flashes on and off for a while, then comes back on. I guess this means its an external problem causes by NTL? Im pretty sure its not the modem as my laptops wireless connection runs through a different modem (but through the same socket in the wall) and that does the same. Also some days my internet will work perfectly, but most of the time its really bad. I am with NTL and just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem? Its driving me crazy now as I cant talk on msn for more than a few minutes without being signed out or browse the internet without pages timing out all the time.

No... its because ntl are joining up with virgin media..

Which is a very very very bad thing. So theres a lot of disruption to every service whilst theres the change over etc.

If you want amazing broadband:

cant fault it

Didn't NTL buy Virginmedia so they could grow and simultaneously rebrand? We struggled with their customer service for ages, and it's no surprise that NTL regularily feature on Watchdog. When we had NTL the TV service wasn't very good, but the internet was reliable. Been having the connecting/disconnecting issue with BT recently, although after a few weeks it seems to have cleared itself up.

We had problems with Telewest - kept getting cut off from the Internet. Restarting the boxes would bring the connection back, but sometimes it would drop again within 5 minutes.

After phoning them several times they told me my wireless router was broken which I replaced and that didn't fix the problem.

When I next talked to them I refused to hang the phone up until they could tell me what the problem was. After going through it all, the guy checked the contention ratio and it turned out that there are too many people in our street/area who are subscribed to the service. He couldn't do anything else for us, but we wrote a letter to Telewest.

They gave is an automated response and we didn't hear anything again until I phoned and asked what was happening about it. They said the complaint had been closed off as it was complete!

Ended up getting them to pay for our new wireless router (£40) as well as getting £9 a month off for the next year.

The connection still drops, but they are going to dig up the road and sort the problem out!

BT have been a problem for ages my end. Disconnecting, and then having to wait 10 mins to re-connect. NOT GOOD. They say it's their lines, and that they're digging all their lines up, which they are... but then they started blaming my PC.

I said it's done it on my PC, My dads PC my mums PC, my uncles PC, my aunts PC, my Laptop etc etc

and he just stopped

I will have to look into that straight away - code for, I can't pin the blame on you, so I'll pin it on...SHEENA in accounting... :shifty:

So its not just me then. Im gonna ring them soon, cos its ridiculous now. Frustrates me so much. I cant chat for more than 2 mins without being cut off. Could it maybe be that my phone line cant support a 2meg connection? as im pretty sure a few months back we were supposed to be upgraded. Anyone else had similar problems?

Had the problem with Wanadoo/Freeserve/Orange or whatever they are now called.

2mb service used to disconnect loads, sometimes it would be fine for hours on end, others it wasn't usable because it would disconnect every few minutes.

Rang the helpdesk a few times but every time they said there were no problems and blamed my Netgear router.

Eventually changed to BT and the problem sorted itself out and we got a speed upgrade (BT offer a maximum of 8mb but my area is currently limited to 5mb).

I don't know what the problem was but I am guessing BT prioritise the lines in favour of their own customers rather than the people using other providers through BT lines.
