Slight Buckled Wheel

Recommended Posts

Hey, ive been riding now for 3 weeks and im getting better.. i got 21 rear wheel hops and tring to do the moving hops... But anyway, ive noticed that there is a slight wheel buckle front and back.

I was just woundering if there is a down side to it. Its not massive but will it affect braking, hopping etc...

Or is there a way of fixing it without buying a new set of rims.

it'll affect your braking if you've got rim brakes, and it'll probably get worse. Plus its not good practice to be riding around with buckled wheels when they're so easy to fix.

go buy yourself a spoke key for a few quid, then get to work on those buckles! you want to loosen the nipples on the side where the brakes rub and tighten them on the side where they are far away from the brakes. only do it about 1/4 or 1/2 a turn, do it only where the buckle is and WORK SLOWLY!!!!!! if you start twisting your nipples lots soon you'll rim'll be all out of shape. Keep in mind what nipples you have turned and spin the wheel regularly to check where you are. I like to use a marker pen spin the wheel and leave a line where the buckle is. then you know the nipples that need work. wipe it off regularly and keep going till you've got a straight wheel.

good luck!

Yeah theres a way to fix it, you need a spoke key or if you have a small spanner that will fit , use that.

ok so what you do is find where the buckle is and once you have found it, use the spoke key and find the nearest spoke that is near where the buckle is tighten it up and away you go!
