  1. I`m 35, going on 36 this year. More motivated to ride now than I have been in years. Going through a divorce has tought me that nothing, and no one are there until the end. So the importance of doing what makes you feel good is the most important thing ever. I ride a few times each week. Sometimes big, sometimes like a sack of something that don`t ride too well.
I even ride with my kids. My oldest son has an echo 20" with some tweaks to make it easier to ride.

  2. So... Time for an update then. :)

    IMAG1378_zps5437c5e7.jpg

    Changes:

Tyres: Might go back to the Maxxis on rear. Undecided yet.

    Bars: Trialtech Carbon. :D

    Rear hub: Echo TR

    Rear Cog: Echo Ti

    Rim tapes: Viz yellow.

    Frame: Pure SL 2012
    Forks: Urban 2012

    Booster: Trialtech

Future plans for it: Ride it to bits! Have a new job now that actually allows for some time to ride. 2013 will be awesome.

    Cheers!

  3. How is the pinch flat resistance?

I run 20 psi front and rear, and so far I`ve had one flat on the rear. Not saying they`re the greatest tyres ever in the pinch flat resistance category, but it works for me. Probably because I ride like a sissy gurrl... :P

  4. Looks really nice, how do they ride? really really tempted to buy one of these frames but im undecided :/

    Thanks! :)

It`s light, rather stiff and pretty simplistic. The geo suits me good, but that`s just a question of preference.

A high BB will always have it`s pro`s & con`s. So it`s all down to what you want in a frame.

I managed to do everything I did on my Limey3 on the first ride, so I`m well pleased with it! :)

  5. Check out the Maxxis Aspen tyre instead. Light, MUCH grippier and available in a couple of sizes.

I`ve been riding Schwalbe tyres for a few years and their Muddy Mary 2.35 FR stands out (to me ) as their best tyre for trials (on the rear).

For the front I`ve tried Racing Ralph 2,25 - Rocket Ron 2,25 and Furious Fred 2,25. Surprisingly enough the FF is by far the best front tyre for mixed riding, aswell as being the lightest. Obviously sucks for wet natural...

Still went back to Maxxis though...

  6. I think it's good to 'preview' their upcoming products, at least we know they somewhat exist. But I'm guessing the reason why they're not so highly anticipated in the UK and Europe is because Hope is readily available and likely will not be much difference in price with the Echo disc brake. to be honest, the Echo disc is almost definitely something catered towards the domestic market in China as all other decent hydro brakes are from North American or European brands which are horribly expensive there. To say the least it's something to look at for the time being ^_^

Seems these days the trend is going towards lighter and more simple looking frames whilst maintaining decent strength. I guess the lack of welded-on booster is nice for those people who don't like boosters or just want the lightest set up. Though to be fair, I'd trust a big sturdy 4-bolt booster over a welded on one.

Agreed about the stems, his older ones had a design that looked fine and worked well?

Actually most generic disc brakes are, as is most bike parts in general, produced in the Far East. As for Hope, the only country Hope has ever been cheap in is, UK. When I bought my first Hope brake in Norway, It set me back around NOK 3200,- (Ca. £ 340 ) I would be VERY interested in a new contender in the trials specific brake market. And having it at the Echo TR pricepoint would be genius. But I would like to see it displayed separately as a "work in progress" teaser instead of a part of a complete spec. Showing it as a part of their available lineup makes me assume you could order, and buy it today, which you can`t!

    Lighter - Yes

    Simpler - Yes

Functional - More than ever. No excuse to cut corners. Eliminating frame flex will be of interest for anyone. Be it a hucker, or a silky smooth rider.

The stems weren`t artworks before either, but they were less bulky.

  7. I actually really like the new lineup. Though, there are a few things I would add/change if it was up to me.

First of all, I`d remove the not-yet-possibly-never-available TR disc brake from any pictures. As long as it`s not ready to buy, I`m not interested. Specially since the SL-version they showed us last year remains unavailable...

The Echo lineup, specially the 26 and 24 could do with a tiny built in booster. I`d also space out the seatstays so that the 4-bolt mounts would sit "lower", and more inside the frame.

In 2011 we should not have the need for external boosters!

Last, but not least, the TR stems need a redesigned steerer tube clamp. Any company currently producing stems are trying their best to make stems that are less bulky, and won`t harm your knees or any other bodypart that might interact with it. Echo went in the opposite direction and made them around 60mm high! That is just wrong and ugly! On the other hand, the bar clamping area has become very sleek and functional.

Tempted to give the Echo 26" a go, but might aswell end up with a much more expensive Kortz II. Limey 4 might be the golden middleway though...
