Good to see this topic!!!
Don't buy Race Face Cranks for trials! They will suck you down!
I bended mine after a few weeks!
Now i am ridin the truvativ hussefelt for about 2 years! And
they are beast!!!
But if you have the money go for middleburns!
If not Truvativ is nearly as good as!
Martin
Was your cranks the Race Face Evolve DH or the XC one ??
PS Thank you all for your help

DMR is known for their dirt n trials frame even by da guy at TrashZen
-
It was trials specific about 3 years ago.
I think that would be it than, the boss of Cyclepath Toronto, Canada. He special order da frame n no 1 bought it i think he left it there 2-3 years. What do u think about that bike??
Thanks for your tyme.

if you want a trials spec you get a trials bike

-
dmr sidekick is more known as a dirtjupnig bike! if you hade to go for a dmr to do trials on ide gor for the rytham!
josh
But the shop said the sidekick was trials specific

How are the Profile hubs

Well to start with there are more than one set of RF Evolve cranks. I wouldn't even entertain the idea of using an XC crank on a trials bike, it just wouldn't last!
The DH model on the other hand as fitted to my freeride rig with x-type BB is really very strong & stiff. the bearings won't quit either. I still wouldn't be mad gone on the idea of landing a crank on the edge of a wall though.
I ride Middleburns on my trials bike & have had no cause for concern with them yet. I fitted them along with a new ISIS BB & after checking them once or twice have zero worries about damaging them or them working loose or anything like that.
Price difference is negligable too if you count in the fact that the Race Face will require a trials style Bash & small sprocket buying on top of the crank (& BB if ISIS).
Thanks for your help but the crank i was talking about was the Evolve Freeride/DH one not the xc one.
Do you think the Evolve DH can handle the abuse of trials??
-
Hey thanks for all you help so far, any further comments will be appreciated.
(would any 1 recommends the race face evolve) The reason is because its on sale and i was wondering if it can stand up to da abuse and would it be good for trials at all?
-
Thanks for all your help and opinions so far, but any more ideas would be greatly apprecated
-
I'm quite heavy weighing at 165, my cheap cranks pedal hole striped on me and now I have my eyes on 2 cranks the Race Face Evolve DH and the Truvativ Hussifelt, Which crank should i go for ,is there anything else i should look at before i buy the cranks, any other good selections or is one of these good enough
Thanks for all your time
-
For that i'd go for a mavic ex721. Theyre probably the strongest rim you can get and it wont be a b*****d setting up your brake as you don't have a trials specific frame designed for wide rims.
Hey thanks agian for your reply, wont the rim choice change if i tell u i'm running a avid BB7 Mech disc brake on my rear, is there anything else that would match other than the Mavic ex721
Avoid shitmano mate lol. I've been riding trials for a few years now and I've never seen anyone with a shitmano hub. How much money have you got to spend on a hub?
Rite now i'm not sure cuz i needa get da rim n hub, but prob around $100-$200 Canadian for hub
-
Has anybosy tryed the shimano hone hub, How is it? is it strong enough for trials??
-
Hope pro 2 is the hub you want but the rim choice depends on what frame you have.
Thanks for your help, i'm riding a Gary Fisher GED, what rim would u recommecd for that
Thanks agian for your help

Hi my problem is i'm not sure which rim i should go for. Right now i have my eye on the Alex Supra-D, supra BH or Supra E-pro. I was also planing to lace that to a Shimano Hone hub. Does anybody have any idea of which rim is better for trials on a stock bike. And also if the Shimano hone hub is any good for trials. If not can u guys recommend a good trials hub i can buy that wont blow my bank. Right now i'm running a Sun Ringle Mammoth on a Deore hub, is the mammoth ok for trials??
Any input/ideas or recommendations is appreciated
Thanks

I would recommend the FSA DH Pig PRO, i've been using that and its smooth as butter and it wont put a hole in your pocket
