Which Magura Pads Work Best With No Grind?
Herr.Wolfkatze replied to Herr.Wolfkatze's topic in Trials Chat
I'm going to sound like such a spanner but I need to know this answer so here goes xD What are blue plaz pads? I'm looking for them and the closest I've found so far are those Plazmatic Spanish Fly pads on the Tartybikes website, is there another model of Plazmatic pad that I'm supposed to be looking for? -

Can blue plaz pads be fitted to Shimano XT/XTR V-Brakes? How do they hold in the wet? -
Will My Rims Be Too Wide For My V-brakes?
Herr.Wolfkatze replied to Herr.Wolfkatze's topic in Trials Chat
Hello again! Thanks very much, you've been very helpful with sorting out my brake/rim issues for me. What would be the main difference in performance between the Shimano SP5 and the BMX Linear Slick's? If I order Shimano XT's or XTR's I can also have them supplied with NOKON cables, do you know if these are a suitable option for the style of riding I want to get into? I'm not exactly sure what they are but allegedly they improve braking performance quite significantly and remove the necessity of having a noodle to hold the levers together. Oh also actually, what kind of brake boosters should I be looking to run? Do I need a front as well as the rear? Because my bike has one of the funny looking front mounts like the one seen here: https://www.cambriabike.com/Images/product/...3_rim_brake.jpg Except that is the entirety of the front fork, not an additional attatchment. -
What Are The Best Tyres For A Stock Bike?
Herr.Wolfkatze replied to Herr.Wolfkatze's topic in Trials Chat
Oh aye thats another option the gents at tartybikes s8ggested actually, completely for got to list it. Some others reckon a 2.4 Mountain King/2.5 Der Kaiser is a rather forgiving option for a beginner too -
Still in the early stages of choosing all my bike parts to build myself up to something super pimp. I'm going to be running Echo SL's And at present i'm looking at: Front/Rear: Try-All Stiky/Try-All Stiky Continental Mountain King/Continental Rubber Queen Try-All Stiky/Continental Der Kaiser Continental Mountain King/ Continental Der Kaiser IRC El Gato/IRC El Gato How do all these combinations look? Knowledge me up fellas!

I'm currently customizing my Specialized P3 for street trials riding, and the gents at Tarty Bikes told me i'm going to want to be careful with running Echo Rims on it as they're a little wide for a standard MTB My rims are thicker and wider than most, and are currently 36mm wide each, the brakes run as close as I want to with absolutely no problems. I'm currently looking at the Echo SL front/rear at 38/44mm respectively. The spacing between my V-Brake mounts on the bike is 100mm and i'm going to invest in some Shimano XTR's Do you know if i'm cutting it a bit too close with this set-up? I want to run some Try-All Sticky front/rear tyres on my bike too so i'm a little worried about my tyres being too fat and rubbing against the frame with little or no clearance, they also mentioned it may be difficult to get the pads on close to the rim, although i'm not sure as the tyres and rims on my bike are definitely bigger and wider than most, if not all other MTB's i've seen out there. The gent I spoke to on the phone at TartyBikes did say though that this kind of set up would be dangerous with Magura's which I originally wanted to run. However he said that if I were to run V-Brakes with rather skinny canti's such as Shimano LX or XTR's with pads that had slim backings I could get away with it, perhaps by the skin of my teeth, but if I wanted to squeeze the brakes further to the rim I could simply sand off some of the pad material, shortens the life but it's a sacrifice i'm willing to make for the set up I want Any advice? Thanks N.B. I've been told a thousand times already that my set-up is ridiculous/unusual/impractical/useless and I know it's ungeneric, but my P3 frame suits me well (and I still want to be able to take it out on dirt jumps if I feel like it) and the reason I decided to go with such a controversial build was because a mate of mine who got me into trials rides street just fine with a standard size 16 GT Chucker which is a FAR worse bike than mine to attempt to learn trials on, and he's damn good So i'll consider it skill and stamina training until I save up some funds for a thorough-bred trials bike.

Can I Use Disc Hubs If I Want To Ride With V-brakes?
Herr.Wolfkatze replied to Herr.Wolfkatze's topic in Trials Chat
Nice one mates! Thanks, this has helped alot, and possibly saved me some money! Especially as I want to consider a front disc brake in the future -
I'm interested in the Hope 2 hubs but I can only find them in disc version, does this matter at all? Or can anyone give me some advice towards better/more suitable hubs for my wheels.

Which Magura Pads Work Best With No Grind?
Herr.Wolfkatze replied to Herr.Wolfkatze's topic in Trials Chat
Ooh~ Which pads work well on smooth rims? I haven't done much research into them yet.. I'm pretty sure the stock ones were made to though. -
I don't really want to grind my rims because it's unlikely i'll be doing alot of trials riding in the wet. It's summer right now, and as we head into winter again i'll probably get myself a cheap grinder, but for now. Which pads work best for a no grind? I'm looking for either a magura pad (to be used with the Ozna V brake adapter) Or just a regular V-Brake pad. (Do I need to remove the pads themselves from the original HS33 backings and re-glue them to the Ozna adapter? If so what kind of glue should I use?)

Really? Problems with dx32's? Thats odd because if i recall rightly theyre 32mm wide and im currently rolling on 36mm with no issues at all. Thinking of it that way i could likely get away with the Echo SL rims as theyre only 2mm wider, with Avid single digit V brakes which have quite a chunky backing, and when i upgrade to XTR's which have a much slimmer backing it SHOULD work..?

I have a question Would anyone like to answer it? My other thread didn't generate much response really (Just one reply) I must be doing something wrong here, haha

Bump? C'mon guys I hope it's not -too- hard a question to answer

Alex HR 26 rims with Serfas Professional tyres, how exactly would I go about setting the V's up, and is it possible? I just measured the tyres and it was difficult to get it spot on but i'm going to say they're roughly 70mm wide? And slightly off the topic, does anyone know when I would use 32H hubs and when I would use 36H hubs? Because i'm shopping for these too, and my current bike has 36H but I found a nice set of Hope Pro 2's and they're 32H

Brilliant! They're in pretty fit shape so I'll get in touch with him again. I just remembered reading something on TrashZen about needing front disc brakes because the strain V's put on the front forks makes them liable to snap, got me a bit worried y'see. But my current front brake is a bit worn so I can at least save myself some money with a nice new set-up for a while and see how they feel, because I wanted an XTR on my rear anyway, and if these two suit me well then I'll be saving on having to buy disc later.

Alright guys? A mate of mine offered me nice bargain on a full set of Shimano M970 XTR V Brakes with levers and NOKON cables, could anyone advise me on how much I should be expecting to pay for these and whether its a good deal snatch up? I'm a little unsure though whether V-Brakes on the front forks will suit my purposes well enough or whether I REALLY want to be looking into discs on the front. Any thoughts? Oh, and I'll be sure to put up some pictures of my bike when my work in progress is completed!

A Brief Trials Diary, My Sticking Points And Goals
Herr.Wolfkatze replied to Herr.Wolfkatze's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Mate! TrashZen and TartyBikes were the beginning of my trials experience, I was looking into styles of bike riding and liked the look of freestyle BMX for a while, and then I bumped into TrashZen and I knew which discipline I wanted right away. Extreme enough to take into a professional zone and smooth and stylish enough to ride on the street, exactly the same kind of skating background I'm coming from. Thanks for the advice, I'll look into sprockets and freewheels on TartyBikes! -
Hello again, I can see I'm going to be quite a heavy poster here, at least to start with as I'm completely new to trials riding but I'm SO keen to really get off on it! Right-o, relating to my previous post regarding set up options for my P3 (found here: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....owtopic=137031) Another member advised me that I might want to get into the more flowing street ride style of Trials, which suits me just fine because that's exactly the kind of Aggressive In-Line background I've come from. Looking at the 24UK and Inspired bicycles I really have fallen in love with them and I'm pretty sure this is the kind of road I want to head down. Are there any tips and advice for things I should start off learning? The most important things for street riding and so on. You might want to take a look at the intended set-up of my P3 and help me tweak it to perfection on here, because really I'm looking for something that will serve me beautifully on the street but still take the abuse of a light dirt road when necessary (with the option of sitting down!) So far I can do pretty decently high bunny hops, and side hops, as well as hopping to correct balance. I'm stuck with pedal-hops, wheelies, manuals, balancing on the back wheel and track stands (the last of which seems to be the current bane of my existence) Any riders in the London area are welcomed to PM me so we can arrange meet-ups and group practice sessions to help me get along even faster! Thanks guys.

Great responses! Thanks guys. Funnily enough the bike does have high-rise bars with a short stem already, and it is currently also set up to single speed with the help of my friend who works at a cycle store. I wanted to put some gearing on it because I do frequently ride up and down large hills and so on, and the current gear ratio is quite a pain but it has really improved my endurance I'm getting there with my side hops on the bike, and you're right, the sheer weight of the bike itself does make this quite a sticking point, although I recently discovered as the P3 I'm riding actually has a VERY small frame, most of the weight is contained in the wheels, and the frame itself is fairly light. Thanks to in-line skating I've got quite a bit of lower leg strength and I've learned to do some pretty powerhouse bunny hops (although I'm still getting over my nerves when it comes to clearing objects) so I reckon when I ditch the weight of the wheels I should be doing much better, I think (whilst a dedicated trials bike would help) most of my errors are coming from sheer nerves and an inability to just.. DO the trick I want to perform, I had the same problem skating to begin with and I know it does eventually wear off. Mostly though I just don't want to ditch the ability to be able to cruise through town, or the back of a forest and sit down when I want to and so on, its a nice luxury to have, and being a struggling student, I'm struggling to justify spending on a second bike when it may suit me to have a nice balance between both worlds. Oh! And I'm a regular at tartybikes and trashzen, they've been wonderful at answering ALOT of my e-mails

Hello forum users, I don't know how many experienced riders actually view the newbie forums regularly, but I hope someone out there can give me some guidance Right then, where to start.. I'm a former Aggressive In-Line skater and I wanted a new sport for the summer, as many of my friends have quite heavy duty mountain bikes I decided to get one myself, and ended up with a Specialized P3, which is absolutely fantastic. Soon after doing some research of the bikes specific intended use I stumbled across a trials website and in short, after watching a few videos I fell in love. I'm now determined to kit my P3 out to a super pimp trials riding spec! So far, I've come up with this set-up: Frame: 16" Specialized P3 Dirt Jump Frame ('00) Forks: Marzocci Bomber Dirt Jump Forks (Tuned to hardest setting) Bottom Bracket: Stock bottom bracket at the moment, will change if advised to Wheels: Echo SL front & rear wheels with Saphim Race spokes and Hope 2 Trials hubs Tyres: Try-All sticky front & rear Brakes: Shimano XTR V-Brake rear and Hope Mono Trials front Gearing: SRAM X.7 Rear short-cage derailleur and SRAM X.7 9 Speed shifter Chain: SRAM PC 971 9 speed chain Headset: Stock Ahead Aheadset (I want to change this but I know absolutely nothing about headsets, just like bottom brackets) I also want to change the stem and handlebars, but i'm lost with this too, but as it is it seems I'd be able to make a pretty nifty bike capable of doing anything I want it to between trials and dirt jumping with a simple adjustment of the fork travel distance. What are your thoughts guys? I'll be making a new thread soon discussing my sticking points, and once this thread starts generating a good level of response, I'll post a link there Thanks!

Hey forum users, I'm Ric, 19 years old and new to the forum and also to trials riding. At the moment I'm riding a size 16 Specialized P3 set up for trials riding, though I'm still going through the use of full customization of my bike to set it up exactly how I want it (with the patient assistance of all the wonderful tartybikes staff!) I'm a former Aggressive In-Line skater but hope to bring my learned skills over to trials riding, I fell in love with it the first moment I stumbled across it really, so any riders in the London area (I'll travel all over) are welcomed to contact me and give me some advice and tips, and then maybe even head out for a few rides so I can really start to perfect my skills! As it is right now though I'm having a bit of trouble gripping onto the basics (any user who feels kind enough to PM me and get a little more detail on my sticking points is welcomed as always) I'm always around Sloane Square, South Ken, Hyde Park, Marble Arch and Oxford Circus, as well as Richmond, Kingston Twickenham and Ham, but I'll travel a lot too That's enough of a read as it is so I can't possible imagine that I've left anything else out! Thanks! Ric.
