  1. After riding for five or ten minutes the front brake looses power. When I pull the bike up onto the back wheel, lean it back and pump the brake 15-20 times it goes back to its original state.

Anybody have any ideas why this is??

    Cheers. J

  2. a nice bike. but honestly these 24" bikes look like little mountainbikes for little children or something... I think I'd feel a bit uncomfortable riding this in public. no offence!

Not taken... But mate, I get plenty of compliments when riding, definately not uncomfortable riding it in public. Not reeaally that bothered though man, I'm just out to enjoy myself!

I wouldnt, for starters they have a seat which is by far more comftable then a conventional trials frame :P I actually cant wait to finish mine though so i can sit down when i please :) marinos/inspireds/because's etc actually remind me of small jump bikes. Back on topic, looks a nice bike mate, what tyres did you order?

Yeaaa I see what you mean, compare them to small jump bikes... Only real difference is the forks. Got some DMR motos on the way, should be a nice medium. Plus the fact I'm getting them for a tenner each brand new! (Y)

What's the setup on the 24" you're building up??

Looks good!! shame about the bars :giggle:

Haha cheers bud! You know the bars look good!! Thanks again man.

  3. Looking good mate. what style you riding on it?

Cheers buddy (Y) Actually riding more TGS style, but need some tyres with less rolling resistance for the amount of riding around I do on it. Hows the because?

  4. Whats the gear ratio?

Gea ratio is 18-12. Possibly looking to go up to 22 on the front though :)

    nice clean look!

(i would change the saddle, but whatever)

Cheers dude. The saddle is very almost, practically useless but weighs nothing

Considering an inspired pivitol or a bmx saddle at the moment.

  5. I know that sounds strange! But I was riding through the level in Brighton and I was stopped by a guy with dreadlocks asking if I wanted to take part in a show on Sunday. I'm pretty useless at trials at the moments so I told him I wouldn't be able to put on much of a show!

Just thought I'd give everyone a shout if they are in the Brighton area to get down to the level and talk to one of the guys if anyone is interested!

    Peace

  6. sounds gone, you will have to put some pics up. You still got that tensioner that came with the bike on? You learnt any moves yet?

Yea same tensioner, there was nothing wrong with it really, it was the mech hanger which was bent.

Haha not really learnt any moves, still getting a feel for the bike... can get a few rear wheel hops going on and bunny hop is getting good now (Y)

What moves would you recommend working on?

  7. you snapped that quick! how is the bike? all sorted now. did you not fancy goin for a spoke tensioner?

Haha I know mate. The bike is great though thanks, taken the stickers off and got some risers on order. Got the front brake serviced so its sweet atm.

I think I will make a spoke tensioner as the tension is not quite right, the tensioner on there at the moment doesn't seem to be making any tension.

  8. Just wanted to say I snapped my mech hanger yesterday at 2pm, ordered a new one from tarty online at 4:30pm and received it about an hour ago today!!! Thats what you call outstanding service (Y)

Thought I was going to have to miss out on riding today!

    Muchos gracias to Tartybikes!!

  9. The bottom bracket is what screws into the frame, the crank arms bolt onto the bottom bracket axcel and the pedals bolt into the crank arms.

A free hub is a hub that has a drive mechanism built in, like a chris king or a hope pro 2, with these you have a fixed chainring at the front and a splined sprocket (with a spacer kit) at the rear.

A fixed hub just has a screw on sprocket on the rear but to get your drive you have to have a freewheel attached to the cranks

You could also screw the freewheel onto the hub but this would mean you would need a large chain ring at the front.

hope this has cleared thing up for you mate.

    Perfect, cheers pal!

  10. Sorry guys another question.

If I'm to build a bike, Could someone please explain how the whole crank/bb section works? As in what is attached to what, what does what etc.

I mean I sort of know how it works but then I was reading about fixed hubs/free hubs... freewheels... sprockets.. chainrings etc etc and quickly realised I wouldn't have a clue what to order!

(Sorry If none of this made any sense!)

    Cheers

  11. Thanks for the specs chaps, will start getting a spec together for my bike soon as.

But seeing the prices you guys sold your Leeson and Inspired for I think I may keep looking second hand for a little longer, surely I'll be able to find something soon! What does everybody think? Brand new or second hand?

  12. Hi guys!

I've been on the forum for a while now, scouring the for sale section for a 24" bike. I have about £600 to spend but have something I need some help with.

Whilst this whole time I've been looking for a second hand bike, it occured to me to build my own bike instead. I know a dude that can get me any part at cost price which works out at pretty much half price!

Was just wondering if £600 is a reasonably amount to build a 24" bike bearing in mind i'll be getting about £1200s worth. If so I could use a little help with a list of parts?

    Cheers guys.

    Jamie

  13. when buying 2nd hand looking out for cracks and dents on the frame is the most important. Also check if all other parts are working. Both 24 and 26 are both avaliable buying 2nd hand (or 3rd, 4th and so on) just check out the sale thread.

most important u need to kinda decide what u wan to do with the bike. Do u awn to ride natural trials? or maybe urban trials? or just doing some TGS (taps, gaps, side hops), or would u wan to ride some street and so on.

Narrow down what u wan to achieve with the bike, then the bike itself =)

Definately more urban/street trials.. Also looking to use the bike for short commutes as well i.e. instead of getting on a bus etc. So thats why I ruled out 20" straight away, and looking towards 24" as most of them tend to have a saddle (dunno if thats a bit strange in terms of trials) but kinda a must for what I want it for.

    Cheers dude :)

  14. Cheers dude, those videos were pretty useful!

In terms of a second hand bike, what are a few to look out for? just to narrow it down slightly! I've decided defo not 20", possibly 26" but really like the look of 24". But I understand that 24" bikes are a fairly new thing and are hard to get hold of 2nd hand?

Is it worth buying all the parts and building a custom bike? It can be expensive I know but I can get pretty much any part at cost i.e. non retail price.

    Cheers.
