  1. Thanks for all the comments guys! much appreciated, smooth was what ive been trying to aim for, mr rowlands vids are pretty much where i get the most of the 'id love to ride like that' inspirations....you'll know what i mean if youve seen them

    Footplant tailwhitzerland squeaker.

    Never seen that before!

haha brilliant name for it, never knew it had one! i saw someone do a tailwhip thing with their foot ages ago...think it was near to that iconic riding bit in london, what i did is just a more basic version of that :)

Nice Chris, really cool vid with sweets moves!

I liked the gap over Edinburgh and the fun combo at the end!

    Miss riding up there.

thanks! the combo at the end only came about because i chickened out of doing the big ball next to it (if you know where i mean)...guessing you dont miss the cold and icey conditions in winter!

Cool BMX man! Nah seriously, that was an enjoyable watch :) I am curious to know, have you ever been asked if you are Danny Mac whilst riding the streets of Edinburgh?

happens from time to time, 3 of us up here have skyes and its always asked...when i started, i had the blue fourplay with white forks and it even happened then too - not down to good riding, they just see someone bouncing on the rear wheel on something and shout "do a backflip!"

  2. Been a good while since ive been on here! have not riden as much as id like to this year...busy with work and other commitments, more focus on my health and fitness but it seems to have helped riding too

anyway - inspired after a recent group ride in kirkcaldy to kick start it off again, i decided to get my act together and do something myself

so here you go...3 years of rding in and im prett pleased with the result - still love the bike (!!) and looking forward to see what 2013 has to offer on it :)

  3. dichloromethane is the chemical that was in the old nitromorse, now banned by everyone to sell... so most garages may not have any based on that

i go some late last year by going to some random dodgy bargin store shops, failing that, some old diy shops likely to have stock selling from 2years ago...not sure if theres any near you!

  4. that being the concept....it seems that a half decent street bmx rider would fit the bill much better?!

dont often moves that a trials bike can do over a bmx that involve 'hammering' down stairs or the like...a tyre tap perhaps, drop gaps and the 360 things pivoting on the front (though only really on smaller stairs)

maybe im off the mark on whats wanted....?!

  5. I dont have any pics but seriously considered doing exactly the same thing....tried to make it look similar to the better looking echo sl

a few guys at work have done it with v-brake levers using the drill attachments you get to polish and it looks great

would it require a quick nitromorse first? if so i have some decent stuff here if you need it

blade wise, i couldnt get the black to come off with caustic soda....luckily i didnt like them anyway and went for the echo sl which IMO feels much much nicer than any others. a coloured/black blade would maybe contrast better against the polished body...

  6. how about one larger triangle with some way of hanging the weights from the apex at the top? will focus the forces to compress each side, and if built right...that could be a fair amount?

if you were able to figure out a way to 'wedge' the bridge, so that each side of the bridge was on the edge....would mean you could use 6 pieces of paper on each side and make a pretty strong beam!

*edit, actually measuring the distance, and the length of the 'beams' my idea wouldnt be the best...it would defiantely need multiple triangles to make up for lack of 'horizontal strength' for want of a better description :)

    SO..

a scaled down version of this....

  7. i toyed with the idea at first.....will see how it fairs as and when it does scratch! which, seems to not be any time soon, the paint job orange did is amazing...still looks as good as new and ive amounted a good few hours already - will write my own little review so far

EDIT* looking at the bike mark posted - if i was to get anything, it would perhaps be a similar black inspired around the headtube - i think that looks awesome! the carbon frame protector kindof adds that 'something' to it already though...

the ride took a while to get used to, of all things i thought the rear disk would be what would take most time getting used to, but it was actually really no issue at all. i had minor worries that the on/off of the brake would be sluggish campared to a hs33 and make the takeoff from gaps/minor adjustments etc awkward. it really wasnt...hold is amazing, and it feels like it forces you to be a smoother rider? its strange

the frame is amazing...bunnyhops to rear took a little getting used to, had to re-learn my technique and feel much better of it. always felt that when i bunny hopped the fourplay, (probs due to me using a bad technique leaning back alot) it was all too easy for the front to go high making almost everything an 'up to rear'. found that at first i had a few near misses with the front wheel not lifting nearly high enough and me going straight into the wall

everything on the front is alot better than anything ive tried...its opened up a world of front wheel moves i never thought possible, just seems really at home...and i love the solid feel when you do anything that involves landing on the front

that did take a bit of getting used to though - the bike is solid, and at first felt really stiff and unforgiving...everything just seemed to be transfered straight to me. its hard to explain as its not like the fourplay was spongey!

the bike is very short too, to the point your foot will easily hit the front wheel if its slips forward for whatever reason...spinny stuff though, especially the difference in spinning about the front wheel is great.

on the rear its very stable, much more so than the fourplay was IMO - trials moves are much nicer, gaps/sidehops etc have been easily bigger with this bike.

this could be partly psychological because i am very much taken by it :P the gf does get worried...and also im only 5'10 so a shorter bike may help, but for me its a big step forward and has almost made me feel like im cheating when i learn...like the bike is making everything so much eaier than it actually is

still....others dont need to know that! all in all, would happily recommend it (and then some) to anyone

  8. IMO, trials riding focuses on every part of the body, and will (possibly very slowly) get you in decent shape.

youre near enough right there! youre arms are pushing/pulling forwards/backwards AND up/down....and will pretty much work your whole upper half....balance usually always works the core, and the leg workouts speak for themselves

part of the reason it can be a great workout is that youre doing short explosive bursts repeatedly, often in a plyometric way (where the muscle is working as it lengthens rather than shortens) and this is fantastic for your strength

you dont need to be riding the full time...if anything, studies show that the benefits of steady state cardio (just jogging/cycling at a steady pace for ages) are not nearly as effective as interval or intense short stop/start exercises (that work both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems)

done right, the results wont be all that slow either...especially when combined with a decent diet ;)

  9. you can make it a decent workout if you like, even with street?!

generally im out for 1-2 hours for most rides and will just beast it, can often be a better workout than the other stuff i do! (for reference, i am actually very fit, but still come back looking like ive just showered)

mainly because the adrenaline/enjoyment kicks in, and i often find that i pass the point i really should go home with being physically drained

  10. looking great andrew! i think an inspired edinburgh ride is soon on the cards...

with those stackers and that stem, im curious about how it feels...regardless of how it looks or how it affects the size of some moves, if its more enjoyable and feels good - just keep it!

  11. saying that, i bought a cheap chain tool £7/8, broke it and took it back for another as i thought it may be user error

broke that one, and when the guy at the bike shop had issue with offering a refund, i asked that he use it on the same chain...same thing happened, he broke it and ended up taking them off the shelf

some do work, it was a halfords multi-tool that ended up splitting my chain with ease

  12. was given the master park tool by the gf for christmas....other than being complete overkill, it is so good!

does it with ease, and leaves me safe in the knowledge that my chain is less likely to snap mid move down to a my poor attempts with a crap tool

will never need replaced, so really in the whole scheme of things...why not?! ;)

  13. Benito uses a v2 on the rear so that must say something to be fair.

ah right...anyone know why he chooses that over the trial?

i just figured there must be a reason hope specific designed a trials version...there must be differences that favour trials riders?

  14. alternatively, the 180mm version of the V2 + adapter if your heart is set on that colour?

...at a guess, the larger rotor may compensate the difference between versions. ive never used a V2, but im very happy with the trial front and rear, would never go back to hs33

  15. Three people already gave him useful advice,he bought the wrong set of cranks and that´s only his fault, not sellers. He was acting like it wasn´t his fault at all. That´s all.

IF there bb shell is 68-73mm as with all other inspireds, AND there is no information regarding the lack of compatibility with standard saint cranks and the inspired hex then you really cant say its his fault....if id spent £200 on a crankset i cant use, id get a little pissed off at needless gloating comments

he had to fit them to check for clearance as it sounds like its a very close fit (but the wrong side of close)

thats a point andrew...using 4 spacers may invalidate the saints warranty too...so you may be damned either way sticking with those cranks

  16. how bad is the spacing with the 3 spacers (that come with the cranks) all on the drive side? I cant see the photos....

as for any worries regardling 'lobsided-ness' - i promise you really wont notice

failing that, i sure there wont be any issue selling unriden new cranks for close to full price...the 10/20pound loss can just be an unlucky downside to wanting to keep the frame warranty

  17. To me, the inspired bike range are all just big bmx's

big bmx's that i personaly find easier to do 'trials' moves on.... ;)

aside from that...i couldnt rate the skye highly enough, if you enjoy moves on the front wheel, bunnyhops or anything spinny its a big win

'trials' moves i found alot easier than with a fourplay (if youve ridden one to compare)

  18. i may have those issues! (98-01) was definately around the time i got alot of MBUK's and the year of my first bike

will have a look next time im home, i remember a how-to issue about pedal hops (demonstrated across a zebra crossing i seem to recall) and seeing one of them ride along the edge of a bridge

will let you know if they come up :)
