  1. Aside from screaming and chucking the bike as far as I can; (I try to restrain myself from doing this in public), I think stopping for a while and then going back to it in a bit can do absolute wonders for doing what you are trying to do, as well as maintaining your sanity!

  2. Not worth the money. I seriously dont think they will have any effect on the performance of your brake, good or bad lol. Save your money for when something breaks and you need to replace it! If you want to increase your braking performance, put a light sharp grind on your rear braking surface and buy some cnc Heatsink Yellows. (Y).

Wicked thanks for your help guys, I'll stick with them for now. I'm glad I've finally got my back brake sorted out now anyway. Means I can lock my wheel with one finger which is a great help for rear wheel hops etc.

    Cheers!

  3. Do you mean 'ridges' that run horizontally around the braking surface opposed to 'ridges' that run vertically (like a ground rim)?

This will be from the manufacturing of the rim. There is nothing to worry about.

As stated above though, a grind will give you the best performance! (Y)

My memory card adapter has just chosen a great time to stop working unfortunately. Yeah they run horizontally round the braking surface. They're very small but they are noticable. I was just wondering if you guys thought it would be worth buying some rims with a completely flat braking surface, or if it's not worth the money just for that?

  4. No it's not been grinded, that's why I'm a bit confused. They're brand new rims that came with the bike and it's how its been manufactured. I can't seem to find anything like it on the internet either lol?

EDIT: The ridges are all uniform and parallel the whole way round

  5. Hi, got another nooby question... sorry guys, but with no trials riders in my area I have to ask someone these stupid questions

The sidewalls on my back wheel arn't flat/smooth, they have ridges running the whole way round (I think it may have something to do with not being designed for v-brakes or something?), but I was wondering if this would make much of a difference for my braking power. Would I be able to lock the brakes better if I bought some rims with a flat side wall?

    Your help is much appreciated!

  6. Only if it's a cable disc ^^

Good quality levers generally do help your brakes a bit, have you tried setting them up properly?

Yeah, the breaks on my bike are pretty shocking (was only a £150 bike, can't expect anything fantastic). So I was going to upgrade the breaks, probably with Avid single digit 7s for the back and a decent cable disk brake for the front. I just wasn't sure if I should get some good quality levers whilst I was upgrading the breaks themselves.

  7. Bit of a retarded question but what difference would good quality brake levers make? I read somewhere that it would be wise to get some decent levers if you're going to upgrade your brakes, which I'm trying to do. Hopefully someone can shed some light?

    Cheers,

    Pete

  8. Hey Pete. I'm in the same boat at the moment. Just got a Phase 1.3 the other day and the brakes are shocking. I'm saving up for avid BB7's for the front and Avid Single Digit 7's for the back (Tried SD 5's and they are amazing for the price)

A guy on this forum called Oli P was helping me out in a thread I made with the same sort of questions not so long ago: Here

I'm going to give my brakes another week to bed in but If I'm still not happy and I don't think I will be! I'm gonna get the brakes I stated above. Read some great reviews and from my previous experience Avid make some dayum good brakes.

Oh cheers Oli, that's given me something to think about. I've been riding my bike 2-3 weeks now and the brakes still arn't much better. I've tried adjusting them over and over again, but you still have to squeeze the damn things so hard :D

  9. Hi guys, sorry, I know there are tons of threads similar to this but I'm such a newbie to trials that most of it just washes straight over my head. Basicaly, I ride a M.A.D. Phase 1.3 stock, which seems to be ok for a beginner, however the brakes are pretty shocking. I can't use one finger to lock either the front disk brake or the rear v-brake easily and I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions as to what I should do. I can't spend too much on the brakes, but I still wan't some brakes that'll let me use one finger to lock the wheels. Would better pads be enough for the rear or would I have to get completely new brakes? And what kind of disk brakes should I be keeping my eye out for?

    Thanks for your help!
