  1. I'm sitting here at the computer eating a hot dog. why in the world did I have to open the link. Yuuuck. Right now I am trying to find the little smiley face that is puking up its dinner.

  2. I think its a good start, but to have more than a passing interest, I would want to be able to play with the component colors too. And really over the top spiffy would be to be able to swap out components, but thats a mountain of work. Santa Cruz bikes had abike builder on thier website where you could play with color and actually swap out the components. I played with that for a long time! But it most of been too much work, because they don't have it for this years bikes.

  3. My Trials bike uses Maguras on the rear, but run BB7's on my jump bike and downhill / freeride bike. I love them! use a quality cable and a good housing and the power is great. I got tired of hydro discs and the leaks and the bleeding and have been running BB7's for years now. And I am no little light weight. 280 pounds and they stop my butt just fine.

  4. I ride motorcycles, and there is a new jacket out that uses this technology for the elbows and shoulders. I think its a good idea in that application because my current street bike jacket with its hard pads makes you feel like an american football player. I think it will make its way into bicycle protection too like knee and elbow pads. Not sure though if it has much aplication in head gear. This hat has got to be better than no helmet, but I can't imagine taking some of the falls I have without a skid lid. Modern helmets are pretty light and non obtrusive. They may look funny, but then so do our trials bikes to most people!

  5. it does not get gayer than that....

    (drunk)

Ha ha ha, I was just thinking " hmmmm, thats alot of protection maybe I should check em out" then I saw your post and you said what the little voice in the back of my head was thinking. Hee hee, no offense to cai, but maybe I will just stick to the bloody scars. My friends think more along the lines of Monty99 and I would never hear the end of it. :$

Then again, the shin is killing me...whats a man to do?

  6. Everything is win, except:

    COMIC SANS???

Why on earth would you use that font??

It's a great pic, but for the love of god change that font :D

Ha! You got me, you do know your fonts. I would have preffered to do the lettering with some style by hand, but I was watching my little girl and under time constraints. And to tell the truth, I kinda like Comic Sans ( I hope this doesn't lower your opinion of me to somewhere near dog sheeeeite) . If I don't win, I at least will have something to blame it on! :giggle:

  7. Thanks for all the replys guys. I love the grippyness of the cages, but I have several platform pedals in the parts bin, and might consider changing. I ride with a van skate shoe, but might look into something trials or at least bike specific. By the way, I think I might've actually bruised the shin bone this time, its still really sore this morning, but I still went out and road for half an hour! :) I might look at getting just the shin pads for now, because I actually fall pretty good from all my mountain biking experience, its really just the pedal slips that get me. Thanks agian guys.

  8. Ok, I ride freeride and downhill, and now dabble in trials. I have slipped many a pedal and my shins have the scars to prove it. I have always thought its just the price to pay to play. But tonight I slipped up on the trials bike while playing on a baby little ledge ( I am a rank begginer ) and wacked my shins. It doesnt look as bad as some bloody messes I have had, but this one really friggin hurt. I mean crunch up and wiggle in pain hurt. Its been an hour and it still is killing me. Sooooo maybe I need to get some shin pads after all. I have some knee/shin guards for Downhill, but they were cheap and are uncomfortable. They are fine for down hill runs with mostly coasting but they suck for pedaling. So I am open to any favorites that are reasonably priced and comfortable that you guys want to recomend. I think for trials I just need shin protection, but again, I am open to your collective wisdom. And here is a picture for your entertainment.

  9. Ok, I just barely got validated as a forum member, and with the dead line for this contest looming, I got to work. I am off work today, but watching our 7 month old girl, so between stories and dirty diapers, I managed to bang out my vision of Adam Read playing around the warehouse after hours. I mean, dont you ever wonder where those scratch and dent specials come from? Hope you guys like it!

Edit: Oh, if any one cares, I drew Adam and his mangled bike by hand, scanned it into the computer then used photoshop for color and the rest of the picture.

  10. I Love mountain biking. I ride trails, freeride and downhill. But I have always wanted to try a trials bike. I finally saw a frame on Ebay and took the plunge. I love riding this thing! I am having a hard time learning to hop on the back wheel, but I am enjoying the learning process and love that I can practice right around the house. Its a great work out and the improved balance has transfered over to mountian biking. Ok, enough. Heres the bike.

    03 Zoo Boa stock frame

    Echo fork

    Avid BB7 mechanical front brake

HS 33 rear with Echo Brake booster

Echo SL rims on Surly Single Speed hubs

    White industries freewheel

    Maxxis hookworm tires

Azonic DH bars on Ritchey stem

Race Face XC cranks with Blackspire Granny God bash ring and Stainless Steel chain ring

( had to modify cranks to get a good chainline)

  11. Trials bikes are pretty rare here in the States, so they get lots of looks any ways. Now picture that I am 6'3" and 280 Lbs. My friends call it the clown bike because they say I need a rubber nose and floppy shoes to ride it. The other day, I was playing around on some really short ledges, and these parents walked by with like a 4 year old kid. the kid just stopped and stared. He couldn't stop watching. At first the parents were supportive of the kids facination saying things like " oh look, he's riding one of them stunt bikes", " yes, thats a wheelie" then they got impatient and ended up dragging him away crying because he wanted to watch the fat guy on the tinny bike. I thought that was funny, maybe I should ride a Mod just to make it even sillier.

  12. I am not familiar with hope disc brakes, but I have used many others on my Mountain bikes, and depending on how much movement you are talking about, you are probably just feeling the pads move. Most pads have some freeplay. For some reason I notice this more with 203mm rotors. Possibly its the extra leverage they have against the pads. On most of my bikes, its just enough freeplay to feel like a loose headset when you move the front tire back and forth with the front brake on. If you are feeling more movement than that, then you have a problem. If the movement only started after putting on a new / larger rotor, then maybe the pads were not put in properly or the rotors not torqued down.

  13. Why are you running hookworms, do you ride mostly skatepark?

I live in a big city and ride mostly concrete, plus they are what I had on hand. Also, since I am still learning the basics, they are nice for practicing trackstands and pivoting etc. As they wear out and my skills increase, I will probably look for something else.

  14. Hello all,

I am new to trials and this is my current ride. Its an '03 Zoo Boa frame with Echo fork. Wheels are Surly hubs and Echo SL rims with a White Industries Trials Freewheel and Maxxis Hookworm tires. Moe's Trials bottom Bracket and Raceface XC cranks modified for a better chainline. The cranks run a Blackspire Granny God bashring and Stainless steel chainring. Gearing is 22/18. Azonic DH handlbars on richey stem. Avid BB7 Mechanical discbrake up front and HS 33's with Echo brake booster on back. Its a fun bike to ride, but I am shopping for a longer stiffer frame.

  15. Ok, I see the confusion, I said Python, but meant Piranha. Ooops. sorry 'bout that. thanks for the help guys!

The reason he advised getting a stock was because the Zoo Python you were talking about is a mod frame. Are you sure its the frame flexing, it could well be on that age frame and not the wheel itself?

oops, I meant Zoo Piranha. Sorry for the slip. Thats good advice about the wheel, but I'm pretty sure its the frame. I just put a brand new echo SL rim on front and back. The wheel is super burly. You can see the flex at the bottom bracket. I have inspected for cracks and the likes, but the frame still seems sound, just flexy. But to be fair, I am a really big guy. My mountian bikes are all super burly to withstand the punishment.

Here's a link the frame I am considering at the moment. The shop is only one state away from me, so the shipping is reasonable, and the price is really good.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions so far.

  16. i would recomend getting a 26 inch frame as they are bigger, dont no if they flex more though never had a bike do that to me but am light.

My Zoo Boa is a 26" ( stock ) frame. I like the way it rides, just a little to flexy for my size. I am looking for advice on a stock sized frame that is burly stiff for us big guys.
