  1. Plus buying a mod that takes a 20" rear wheel is pointless as your gonna end up spending more money in the long run, get one with a 19" from the start!

This guy has got brains this is a good idea, shame that I learnt the hard way because now when I get a new frame im going to need a 19" rear wheel too (N)

  2. Hey people,

I have been using a friends zoo python and my dirt jump bike to start off with but, I think its time to get one of my own but, I am having trouble finding a cheap first bike to get used to, i'm not planning to keep it long if I like it as I wil eventually get a more expencive one.

anyway, I have found a completely stock onza t-vee going for £40 and i would like to see other peoples opinions weather i should buy it or not

Not the best of bikes but for £40 you cant really go wrong, even if it only lasts a couple of months.

  3. I'd stay away from square taper cranks, the amount of sets ive gone through is unbelievable!

TartyBikes stock Try-All ISIS cranks and a few cheaper ISIS BB's, you're probably looking at around £80 for cranks, BB, bash and sprocket which is less than half the price of a set of middleburns, plus the benefit of having separate cranks/sprocket B)

Very true square taper cranks are so pointless. I went through 5 cranks in 3 months on my jump bike then at that point I decided to go isis :).

  4. You'd probably be better off doing that to be honest, once you're validated you can have a good shop around.

I just got a 26" frame that had a crack for £20, got the crack welded up for nowt and had it powdercoated for £30 and it's like brand new for very little money. Got some 2nd hand forks off here as well for £45, just goes to show that it can be done even on the tightest of budgets!

I have decided this is what im doing, once im validated I might put my jump bike up on the for sale see if I get any interest then have a shop around for bikes/parts. Thanks for your help guys.

  5. thanks everyone, really useful replies.

And just so you all know, it is not because I don't feel physically capable of getting in shape, or getting some abilities/skill, its more feeling a bit daft - but the more vids I watch the more I am convinced I could learn the basics in the back garden!

    Thanks everyone.

Now for my next post - "what is a good bik...." only kidding

Hmm so good bikes you say? how about a Asda price BMX? :)

  6. I wonder if you guys can help. At the moment I have a cheap Da Bomb mod which im practicing on and im enjoying it but in my garage I have got a 24" fireeye spitfire frame, rock shox forks, avid rear brake, halo wheels and some other bits, the bike is very light at the moment and I was wondering if I got a set of rigid forks, a new front wheel (because mine has a 20mm axle to fit the forks) and new cranks with a 16/18t cog on and got a front brake fitted if this would work as a trials bike even though as far as im aware the frame is for dirt jumping. If this would not work please tell me. I was just wondering because I would like to ride 24" but dont have enough to buy a bike where if I shopped around I could sort this bike for about £80-£100 with secondhand parts. Thanks for reading, hope you guys can help.

  7. What is the best type of disc to use on a rim grind ? and what is the best technique ?

Im not really sure whats the best disc but im pretty sure there was a rim grinding thread earlier in new members chat maybe that can help you if no one replys.

He beat me to it :( haha

  8. Nope, you were right! 20" trials bike = mod :)

P.S. There really is no point in spending £320 (presuming you'll buy first hand from TartyBikes) on a 2010 Onza Rip; you'll be better off waiting until you're validated and purchasing a second hand bike from here or buying one on eBay - you'll get a much nicer bike for your money. Not to mention the fact that they're f**king ugly.

I agree with this because £320 will go much further then a Onza Rip on ebay or on the For sale section of the forum.

  9. I have never seen this frame before.

I have not read this whole topic so this has probably already been said but,how did you snap it?

    Thanks

Nothing has been said about exactly how he done it but there is a fault/weakness with the frame where it snapped, a few of my friends have snapped the same frame in the same place, but also just from general use like he said he has been using it for almost 2 years.

  10. Well in norwich there is a place I think its called Mastercoating or Mastercoat not sure which one and they specialise in powdercoating and paintstripping and things on those lines but im sure if you searched about on google you would be able to find someone in your area.
