OK. This is all really helpful, I'll definitely be looking into all the suggestions you've given here. I wanted to buy second hand, I know that people argue that you don't get the warranty but I'm a good enough mechanic to fix most problems I've come across so far on my bikes (and enjoy doing it), so I figure buy second hand and learn more about the fixing, instead of relying on a warranty.
I checked out the link, it was helpful and saved me a lot of time trying to find some of the answers to those questions, simplicity is better than complex in many cases, especially when dealing with n00b's
