  1. shreds are only hardtail so probably wont be any good for downhill use really although people do use them. for 200 to 350 your going to struggle to find a downhill bike have a look on pinkbike.com there are loads of downhill/freeride bikes for sale on there some are quite cheap ive just had a quick look, but you may need to stretch a few hundred pounds furthur i think to get a decent one :)

    im riding a mad phase 1.2 with a 110mm by 25 degrees (i think) my problem is at the moment but i cant seem to get over the feeling that i am far to far forward on the bike meaning i cant seem to bunnyhop it very well my technique is fine i can bunnyhop my other bike all day long,

    ive seen a few stems on tarty My link

    now comes the question If i went for a slightly shorter/higher stem would that improve the handling of the bike??? but not lose the trials ability at the same time

    if you understood that any help would be appreciated :D

    My sister went on holiday and let me have a house party at her's while she was gone, ended up getting totally wasted despite saying I'd stay sober and look after everyone/the house, before sprinting into the front room, doing a fat handspring over the sofa and bailing mid-air, then when I landed I put my foot through one of my nephew's toys, and completely laid waste to it. The next morning I was cleaning up and found this broken toy stashed behind a sofa, turns out I'd decimated £80's worth of birthday present from the week before. Carefully stacked it up as best I could to resemble what it looked like before, then made sure I was at my sister's when she got back. When she got back a few days later, I 'accidentally' threw a ball at my nephew's head while he was in front of it, he ended up tumbling backwards and sitting on it, my sister still thinks it was him who broke it.

    Also hijacked my mate's CV while he was finding out how to print it in college, changed his secondary school to 'Gary Glitter's School of Paedophilia', gave him an A* in 'Fingering Boys', 'Lubing up', and 'Smoking poles', and a U in 'Holding down a job', amongst other things. He printed off 20 copies and handed them in around town, and got loads of shit off his Mum for not getting a job. Funnily enough I still haven't told him either ha.

  4. i used to have a old school kona stab then switched to a stinky primo but i never did much downhill so i decided to part ex it for my santa cruz buillit that i have now brilliant bike so simple and so nice to ride i have ridden quite a few downhill tracks on it not racing but the frame is more than capaable of uk tracks

    you can get a saracen myst (i think thats what its called) its a cheap entry level downhill bike ready to go out the box rated quite highly by MBUK for around £2500 or for double that price you have the trek session 88 and everything in between and thats just brand new second hand is an even bigger minefield :S

  5. there are literally hundreds of choices when it comes to downhill bikes dude, what sorta budget you got? second hand or brand new?

    downhill bikes are very good at one thing only that is going downhill going back up really isnt on the menu so if you are thinking about dabbling in a bit of downhill and then having a punt around the local woods or trail centres you'd be much better going for an alpine based bike i used to have a downhill bike and now have a alpine bike and i can the alpine bike is a million times better unless your going to be serious about riding downhill then id go for a lighter more pedalable bike, just my opionion though mate :)

  6. ive just fitted the tensile 4 bolt on my 1.2 even after a couple of pedal kicks round the garden to make sure everything was ok it felt better could be a mental thing or just no flex but the difference is amazing standing still squeezing the brake before the frame flexxed like a biatch now none whatsoever

  7. im pretty sure i need a free hub from reading in the FAQ.

    I found that my 1.2 has hardly any engagement points either which is frustrating.

    you dont need a freehub mate you can use a fixed rear hub and go with the front freewheel but you will still need a tensioner of some sorts, i have a 1.2 myself i got a pro 2 off a lad on here and my bike shop laced it to the rim that comes standard the rim is more than strong enough so dont worry about buying a new rim. i had the same nightmare with the standard hub it isnt ideal but a second hand pro 2 (just make sure you get the right one either 32 or 36) the rims we have are 36 but i would still count just to be sure shouldnt cost a fortune and will feel a lot better.

    tioz when doing a endo keep your pedals horizontol just start off small maybe a few inches then go a little furthur and then some more and eventually you'll end up flat on the face :lol: might be worth doing it on grass i forgot about trashzen i use it myself as it has step by step guides (Y)

  8. I’ll try that..I seem to have to pedal kick really hard to get on the back wheel and that throws my balance off..don’t know if I’m doing something wrong here

    Also when I get up I go back really fast so sometimes I miss the braking point and fall backwards

    About the jumping on the curbs I’ll have to look at the slow-mo to see what I’m doing wrong

    instead of trying to pedal kick into it at the moment just try lifting the front from a standing position or if you have access to a large curb or garden bench put your front wheel on there pull back hop once and then place back down and keep doing it until you can hop for seeminly forever. if you can get hold of ryan leechs "the art of trials" its a worthy investment i followed it whilst learning all the basics and it really helped me out, and he does go onto more advanced moves etc, you'll soon get the hang of the balance point, (Y)

    I've been riding trials for just about a month so here I'm posting some (very bad) videos of how I'm doing..actually they're more for me to see myself from the outside but I'd really love some help on improving :turned:

    The garden is really small..not much space to do much in there..

    Anyway here I'm trying out back wheel hops..might have got camera fright because I was doing better before I started filming..

    Well..not really day one but first day I actually dedicated to working on them :rolleyes:

    one thing i noticed dude is that your trackstanding fine when preperaing for a move but then when you hopped onto the curb your pedals were nearly vertical keep em horizontal and keep tall on the bike and you will find your balance will improve

    also in the first video try going to back wheel from flat rather than having the bike already in position will help you learn the balance points if the bike is nice and tall your weight has to be quite high if the bike is hovering above the ground you need your weight way back to counter it, play around with it as long as you got the brake you wont shoot over the back im by no means a pro but just a few things i found made learning easier for me mate (Y)

  10. Replace his first horizontal with vertical and you're pretty much there.

    Point is, one link of chain actually makes a hefty difference to chain length so its tough to get the right length. Then, even if you do, your chain will stretch. Stay sane, spend the £15.

  11. if you are using a horizontal dropout system which i think you are with the phase 1.2 you can take the links out the chain but you will struggle to find the perfect chain tension to tight and it puts to much stress on the chain meaning it could snap too loose and it could just fall off the sprocket. with horizontal dropouts its easier to find that tension because you can move the wheel backwards and forwards to find the right tension. For the sake of all the hassle it will probabley be cheaper in the long run just to buy the chain tensioner. if your feeling particulary cheap (like me) you can use a old rear mech, adjust the limit screws to find the chain line you have and then zip tie the whole mech to the frame and it wont budge but it does stick out a bit meaning you may strike it when sidehopping or slipping of anything. ill be buying a chain tensioner soon as i have managled 3 hangers in the same amount of weeks.
