    Done this! Over 30 mackeral in two tesco bags, left Alderney for 6 months...came back to one hell of a mess.

  2. When I'm in Alderney we regularly go out and catch 60-70 in an hour from the boat with 2 rods. Gut them on the boat and keep them wrapped in a wet towel. Never had any issues with freezing once home.

  3. Mackeral like it if you bob it up and down too...so its moving and shiny, about 2/3ft, just nice and gently.

    They also don't go for the bottom, I've only been off boats/piers and they normally hang around 2m off the bottom.

    Also, mackeral feathers are what you need.

  4. I'm going to call you out on this and say bollocks. If it made no difference and wouldn't affect your ability to make a claim and get a payout (i.e. invalidating your policy in the event of an accident), then why would you need to declare it in the first place?

    Unless I'm misreading what you put, I think the answer to that is you must declare things to avoid the invalidation of your policy.

    An example of this is my landrover. Insurance company (NFU) wanted to know if I had a winch on it....affects performance none whatsoever. But they still wanted to know about it.

    As an aside, I wasn't looking to argue with anyone, just people seemed confused whether something like removing rear seats needed declaring. Thought I could help, rang the broker who I insure over 40 vehicles with so it's in his interest to give me correct answers and asked for the bottom line. Bottom line is that all changes, no matter how small, must be declared to avoid invalidation of policy.

    Hayden, this is why I spoke to my broker. Brokers aren't insurance companies. They're a middle man. They work with most insurance companies large and small and are experts in this subject.

  6. And could technically invalidate insurance, so probably not an amazing idea to tell him to just "remove the rear seats".

    Just fold them flat and remove the bars and front wheel. Removing the seats all together is not a great option.

    Can categorically state that removing the rear seats does not invalidate insurance having spoke to my broker today (works with lots of insurance companies for lots of different commercial firms).

    Also from personal experience with land-rovers, seats always in and out. V5 said it was a 9 seater. When I crashed there was 6. (2 front, 2 middle, 2 back).

    However, insurance does need to be notified, as always with ANY change, even a change of colour/wheels.

    Also, from a personal viewpoint, I wouldn't remove the rear seat, cos then where would I keep my empty macdonalds bags?

    EDIT: By the way, didn't post this to stir. Just though a few people would like a definitive answer.

    Do not make coffee whilst driving the camper (apparently someone did that, sued and got away with it because there wasn't a warning)

    and on our milk is says: Warning, contains milk. 0.o

    Warning: Contains Nuts is a good one on a nuts packet.

    I run an asbestos removal firm, the majority of regulations are very good but sometimes, what we have to do to fit in with a HSE inspectors interpretation of the rules is ridiculous!

    The camper van one is actually "You must stay at the wheel of the camper van whilst _____ is activated"

    The story goes that a man put cruise control on an American freeway and went in the back to make coffee and crashed, sued the campervan company for millions. The American courts ordered that the campervan company paid him, recalled every single campervan sold and changed it from "Cruise Control" to something else ridiculous like speed keeper or similar. Hence why I just put a line in the quote above. Cost the campervan company millions and millions and nearly bankrupt them.

  8. No doubting the shell itself is strong. Its transferance of the force from the shell to the head that I'd be worried about.

    I work on demolition sites and have seen a scaffold fitting drop through a glass ceiling and knock someone clean out who had a proper hard hat on, let alone a bump cap.

  9. Finally bought my first bike!

    I'm pretty unsure of the specs on it, but I know its a 20" monty, thats pretty much it!

    If anyone could help me out on some basics I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Sorry for the bad picture too, don't own a proper camera.

  10. Had a very scary weekend, mate of mine took a big groundfall. See pic:

    He had gear in, pulled up on the edge of the roof and as he put the heel hook on, kicked the gear out. My girlfriend then took that pic, and moved the bouldering mat underneath him. He then tried to carry on but ended up falling, I managed to catch him/slow his fall and push him onto the bouldering mat. He walked away from it but he was lucky!

    This was possibly me :P

    I'd love to point out the fact that I didn't walk away from it! I had a fag and then lead it clean? Missed that off didn't you!

    Still owe you the beer for catching me though.
