    What do you think?

Swapped my old BMX for a Onza Mod today with some tasty parts on it.. one of which is a nearly new Magura Louise front disc brake. Had to put my old front wheel on so I could run the Louise but its all good and rideable now so I can get out and have some fun! :)

Will be after a decent disc hub front wheel at some point, but will have to wait till I have money again first!

  2. And a chain maybe? :P good price but horrible frame forks and bars.

Already got a chain.. just not fitted in the pics lol

Flat bars are grim, riser bars should be your next purchase after the front brake.

I agree bout the bars, get some risers on there but other than that I think Phase's are great bikes. Especially when you got it for £60!

I have got some raiser bars, but they wont fit with that stem and the other stem I have is no good.

Exactly.. the price was right! And compared to what I had it's a million times better.. I'm only just starting out again as well so not ready to spend big bucks yet!

  3. So after a few rides on my bike built of spares ( http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/177921-starting-again/ ) I decided I needed a proper trials bike so started looking on here/eBay.

I came across a MAD Phase 1.1 which needed brakes, a chain and some grips to complete, and also came with the bonus of some Burns with a Tensile bash guard, Truvativ ISIS BB, Echo flat bars and a brand new set of Kenda Kinetics tyres, so messaged the guy asking if he had a buy it now price.. he told me to make an offer, so I did and he took it! Guess how much........ £60!

It arrived Tuesday and I built it up.. just need a front brake to finish it off :)

Anyone got a front Maggy they want to get rid of??

  4. I have to say my local Halfords is pretty poor. I got told by one lad that 160mm disc brake rotors were really rare and near impossible to get a hold of, another told me the reason I got punctures on my old trials bike was because I had lots of holes in the rim (drilled rims), went in with my bmx to get a tube and was told my bike was illegal as it didn't have brakes and that they shouldn't let me leave the shop without making it road safe!

They also seem to go through staff quicker than I can keep track of because every time I go in there is a new numpty working n telling me a load of crap!

  5. Im in Tonbridge

So am I.. just started riding again! Where do you ride?

I'm in Maidstone and know that are are riders in Faversham, Margate, Gravesend, Folkestone and Tonbridge.

We meet up for rides every now and again, i pretty much ride Maidstone, Gravesend or head to Barrow Farm in Essex.

Just set up a group ride on here or ad some of us on FB

I'm Robert Larkins, also look for Darren Lee Hill

    Rob

Hi Rob! It's Justin.. I used to work with you at Cycles UK in Tonbridge. Just got back into trials riding.. good to hear your still at it!

I'm up for a Kent ride sometime if people are about?

  6. About 5 year back when I first rode trials I was doing a kick hop off a jump box at a skate park, was on top of the box on the edge on my rear wheel ready to kick off and for some reason I didn't release the rear brake as I kicked sending my bike diving front first and me head first to the ground below in front of everyone at the skate park. What makes it worse is my mate has it on camera too!

  7. Well to be honest the frame is the least of my worries at the mo.. I quite like the street/jump bike feel it still has, but with the bonus of being able to do trials on it too. I will probably buy a better frame when I have the money, but I'll go for something similar to the inspired frames as I like being able to ride both trails and street. Plus since the whole bike was built with spares from my shed and it's cost me nothing so far so I'm not complaining :D

The front disc I have at the mo is a cable disc which is crap (doesn't even stop me!) so I'm after a decent hydraulic front disc.. so recommendations for a decent but reasonably cheap one please. I have no issue with second hand etc. Been looking at Magura Louise, Hayes Ryder, Hayes Stroker Trail, Avid Elixir.. any of them any good?

Also I think a different stem with more of a rise might make a difference..?

When I have the money I'll look into a different frame, but for now the one I've got will have to do.

I went for a ride earlier (first proper ride I've done) and bar the front brake being rubbish and the realization I can't bunny hop as high as I used to be able to it was alright. I can still kick hop and do a few things I used to be able to so hopefully with some more practice I'll get better :)

  8. Hi. I have decided to get back into trials riding. I used to ride trials a few years ago on a 20" but have decided to give a 26" a go this time. Now my bike isn't a "trials" bike as such, I built it out of spares in my shed! But surely it will be okay to use to get back into it?

Here's a couple of pics of my creation:

    IMAG0172.jpg

    IMAG0174.jpg

It all seems a lot harder than it used to.. I'm not sure if that's down to the bike or me being older and more crippled!

Anyways.. my first question for you all. What is a decent but cheap hydrolic front disc brake? I have a cable disc brake at the mo and it's crap!

    Thanks

    Justin
