  1. sorry about your bad experience. but that lacing of hub and spokes totally does not look kosher as well.

yeah i noticed that whilst fiddling tightening the chain. Whole bike seemed to have been bodged by the previous owner's. The wheel runs fairly true so im not going to do anything about it for now.

I really plan on killing it bit by bit and replacing it bit by bit.

For now atlast it rides fairly nicely.... (well until it inevitably snaps)

  2. The deeper i delve the worse it gets.

I got some bits from tarty today, and decided to get my snail cams on to straighten the wheel, tighten the chain to prepare for correct brake adjustment.

so the first miserable realization was that one of my magura slaves is leaking ever so slightly (witch adds up as i seemed to be loosing braking power) I suspect its been waterbled and seals have started deteriorating or something. I only noticed this due to the backings on one pad being pretty wet.

i glanced over to my wheel and noticed another mess. Was this wheel per chance designed for an echo frame? Or a 135mm hub with its axel shaved? Who knows, my conclusion is it was defenatley a bodge and it made it very difficult to center the wheel so i had to finish and tidy the job.

After a bit of a chop it was allot better, the axels not dead flat but if it becomes a problem ill grind it as flat as i can get it.

I threw on some real rim tape (rather than the combination of masking tape and inertubes theyd used) Im not sure about the colour combination but i suppose thats why you shouldn't shop on tarty whilst under the influence of alcohol.

After a surprisingly little amount of messing with the brakes and tightening the chain/centering the wheels its all back together for now... The new rotor is going on later, and the bars and stem arent here yet :/

  3. I got the front wheel trued by the local shop the other day.

    Orderd following

Onza comp frame (ebay score. white one, think its fairly old, same shape as the T-Pro in the strange golden colour)

Rockman sloped stem (Longer than the current stem)

Trialtech High riser bars (allot more rise so i should be able to set it up more to my geo preference)

Neon snail Cams (should be able to keep the wheel straight now, to aid better brake setup)

Monty foam grips (i like them, and the inspired ones are falling apart)

grip locks (no real excuses other than the lack of bar ends on the bike)

New rotor (cant remember witch one specifically, But its to replace the bent tektro rubbish im currently running)

    Think thats it. not sure.
As far as riding goes, im back up to crank hopping on the bike, now i just need to go explore and find some nice ledges to practice on.

Will update this with pictures one i get it all.

  4. they seem reasonable. Spoken to them. Wandering if I should get the frame rewellded?

Or get a new frame? Or send it back and spend a little bit more on something a little higher specced and/or a bike with a longer stem/bars combo.

I'm really torn I had a quick blast and picked up crank hopping but I found it feels front heavy due to the geo.

I could even look at getting a stock or 24 and see how I fair. The only reason I got a mod is due to nostalgia from teenage riding.

  5. Hi guys. basically i was fairly mediocre at riding im my early teens (14 or so) rode a custom built mod based on a 221TI frame, was capable of doing the odd 6ft drop.

i got bored and sold my bike a few years back. As summer is approaching and im a workaholic (due to being self employed and working from home) I decided that i should get back into something sporty or somewhat active. Whilst browsing ebay i impulse brought myself a ZHI ZM3. It looks like a pretty good buy at 230 posted. heres the spec that was written on ebay.

    ZHI ZM3 frame
    Echo disc only forks
    Trial tech cranks
Front free wheel (can't remember which)
Hope Mono Trial hydraulic front brake with braided line
Magura HS33 hydraulic rear brake with yellow pads and CNC backings
Echo 4 bolt rear brake booster
    Echo stem
    Trialtech handlebars
Tryall front rim on Hope hub with Monty tyre (low tread but didn't bother me for street)
Echo rear rim on Echo hub with Tryall Sticky tyre
    Pro-carbon downtube protector

So im really just looking for suggestions and tips on finding the motivation to ride, finding local riders/competitions.ect and what changes im going to need to make to the bike.

My first thought is im going to need the following

    Longer stem

    Bar Ends

    Maybe Bars.

These are all because im 6ft 4 or so. (yes maybe a mod wasnt the best idea) But if i dont get along with the bike or the sport ill just flog it on to someone else to get some joy out of.
