  1. Well I think the last video I posted of myself riding was an incident where I fractured my spine. It has been 2 years since that and I am fortunately enjoying riding again.

I am exceptionally lucky, could have been a lot lot worse. Everything is filmed in chronological order, with a bit of historical footage.

I've got my fingers crossed we see Martyn Ashton back on his bike and in another video.

    Hope you enjoy

  2. Ladies and Gentlemen.

Ben Savage has been out of competitive trials for nearly 2 years with a shoulder injury. Unable to train consistently he recently moved to the Rockman Radix 24" bike and these are the results. One day at Matlock Quarry, sun, short run ups and big rocks....enjoy

Expect more footage soon as he continues to find his feet on the new ride and get back into it!

  3. Well i think this is the first post i have made on trialsforum in about 5 years! Had to be about a crash really.

This was a drop i really wanted to land and my riding had been getting to a stage where i was confident i could actually do it. Definitely the biggest thing i have ever tried.

Nothing to do with the pads i was using i was too steep in the air (knew that as soon as i watched the video), and went a little too far.

Sadly this became far from a laughing matter for me last thursday when i received a phone call from my doctor. Radiologist reviewed my xray (taken on the day) and found a compression fracture of a vertebra in my spine. Back to hospital for more xrays and scans etc to make sure it isn't too serious. It is strange to think i have been riding in between the crash and finding out...even though going from lying to standing is agony.

As for the helmet i seriosuly recommend the fox flux because of the rear head protection. After smashing the fastening and cracking the shell i purchased another one. It took two weeks for the swelling on my head to go down enough to get the new helmet on!

I definitely watch this video in a different light now.

  4. quality stuff dave! always difficult to tell in a vid just how smooth a rider is.

some of that stuff cant be done justice in a vid but its safe to say i should probably stay well clear for health and safety reasons.

loving the 180 on the beam, spot on.

  5. can you wear out a dvd watching it too much i really hope not!!

Jim this is an amazing video, captured the spirit of the day and some great riding. even though i was there and watched everything i still dont remember half the stuff.

Wayne - absolute mentalist, forgot he did that twice (not saying what but buy the dvd and wait for your jaw to hit the floor).

you can be proud of your work jim, one of my favourite trials dvds ever! and at a decent price

  6. Thanks for the comments folks

overall seems to be liked which is always nice to hear.

Shame that i used the same song at the same time as someone else, but i really fancied using it, terrible coincidence.

about the bars - i bought them so i could cut down from 31" to suit me, found i quite liked them this wide (until someone put a gulley section in the nationals at shipley - bye bye bar ends!!). Used to run EA70s but snapped them and went for the simtra combo to match the frame (and they were on offer).

Sam is a stupidly good rider and those clips dont do him justice, give the lad some rocks to play on and its clear to see why his signature is a list of his titles - fully deserved and a top trials family all round.

Yeah rik i'm sure he would be good if he spent less time chasing women around and more time on his steed!

more comments welcome guys its always appreciated.

  7. Random footage from this year, filmed inbetween injury and horrendous weather. mixed in with older footage i had left over.

  8. Quality as always Jim

cant wait for the finished article all money goes to a good cause so i will be buying a copy and suggest many of you do the spirit of this event is what trials is all about. such a good laugh thrown in and amongst some amazing riding. i had a top day didnt stop talking (on the mic!!) from 10 in the morning until half 4 and have the riders to thank for making my life easy!

all monies are going to a good cause so it would be great to see this sell out, what a day and i was proud to be part of it, this will be emotional to watch knowing why we put this together.

the event took massive efforts to organise (thanks Barbara and everyone else) there is so much goes into putting something like this on.

hopefully some more little teasers on the way hint hint!!

    (Y)

  9. Josh mate you were such a sound guy.

So young as well, will always remember the demos, the random rides in the wet in colne. Him coming into on yer bike having been paid, spending his entire wage on a stem or tyre then breaking something else the next week.

proper street style, awesome bunny hop old school mix with modern trials. more importantly someone who did not take things seriously, always having a laugh. Great person to ride with. a loss to not just the trials community, but the community as a whole

    Ride In Peace.

  10. thanks for the comments folks.

the bar and stem set up i use is a simtra re-sy-stem and mcspander (suuuuuuuper wide) bars, take a bit of gettin used to but they are white and amazingly nice to ride with.

this video pretty much sums up how trials is for me. i started the sport to avoid the competition that seems to exist in most maintstream sports. i just enjoy having a laugh with mates, pushing myself and just escaping the humdrum of life. i ride comps not to win, in fact the only trophy i would get is for the best crash of the event im sure! i ride them to meet like minded people have a laugh and just enjoy a day out in the rain (as per normal tyke trials) with my bike. so if you want to enter comps but dont feel you are good enough to win just join me and John Peacock on a light hearted trudge around the sections.

john i would be happy to showcase young robbie's talent, give me a bell and ill charge the camera up (i expect a cameo from you though), wait for the vid of me woody and ben in madrid some quality "gaffs" in that

    keep the comments coming, cheers

  11. i have no idea how trials tube works so if this goes horribly wrong i apologise.

i spent the day riding and filming, placing my camera on rocks, walls, benches the floor to try and capture some footage. i whacked it together in this vid, some interesting angles. i really like it, just a fun vid, please let me know what you think

comments welcome thanks folks, also let me know if this doesnt work

  12. Jim Ryan from 26twenty.com was filming and has 1 hr 30 mins of footage. he will be putting a video up when editted to his usual high standard. he has footage of the whole day, teams and pro demos (canas the human spring!!) and a little bit of everything else i think....cant wait for the video!!

thanks to all the riders for putting on a quality show, i now have a rather sore throat and croaky voice!!

Danny Smith did finish 3rd in the bunny hop comp (a result to match adams 3rd in Mr Burnley!!!)

  13. cheers for the comments guys keep em coming

the film age effect is straight out of the top drawer of windows movie maker, so i dont know how it would work on premier sorry

as for ash (mallet) he is making his own vid so i thought i wouldnt use some of his clips.

ive wanted to use that song since dec 21st last year but havent had the chance and with only a few months til i'm 24 it had to be done

  14. well its been a pretty horrendous summer but me and a few mates have managed to get out and do a bit of riding

filmed in (some very ghetto areas i must say) birkenhead docks, new brighton, skipton, barnoldswick, a very wet shipley glen and a very sunny blackpool.

the usual comedy falls are included, as well as a sinking ship (?!) and some lame attempt at parkour (rob). music i think is very apt (the first song especially for me woody and ben)

    riders include

me - on my horrible long simtra st1 (very different riding style now - still poor but in a whole different way)

woody - same old pashley (same old tyres) with added dent

ben swales - on his new mod (*spit*)

Matty Rushton - bling bling aorta

Ferg Whitehead - multi coloured echo team

    Rob Hilton - echo team

let me know what you think folks, hope i captured the general mood of our riding. enjoy

tv.isg linkage - random riders file to download

  15. here are just a few shots from the past week or so, i have broken my toe and my foot is encased in a cast and i have to wear a rem shoe, oh well

when the weather held out i popped out with my little digi cam and snapped a few photos of ash smith riding.

comments would be good folks, need to convince my dad to let me use his digital slr he doesnt think i can take photos!

and off it, i think the best description of my riding in these photos is laboured. but in my defence that shoe just doesnt stay on my foot or pedall

    hope you like folks

  16. all the photos, keep em coming guys was a top weekend, im just uber gutted today as the doctor made me have a cast on for a broken toe!!!

(mainly because i told him i had to ride in 2 weeks ish at back cowm tyke trial round)

looks like im observing john so there is no excuse for you not to ride!!

  17. now then i think i have perhaps had one of the best weekends of riding and have a horror story to match the best of em!

staurday started badly, turned up with a stonking hangover and little sleep the night before. managed not to show myself up too much and help TEAM KEITH to 4th place with a total of 7 i was well impressed, more beers before future trials i think.

saturday night was fun, just messing about on the multitude of rocks littering the surrounding fields, and watching people go about destorying their bikes pre trial on sunday (hudson your face was a picture) before have a good laugh camping over.

sunday was all set to be ace weather was holding out just about and i was feeling less like i was about to make a deep pan pizza without the base.

first lap was shocking in the dry i managed to drop 21 points, 4 stupid stupid 5's, very annoying then the rains came, things were lookin good for a high scoring round. managed to keep to no 5s for rest of trial and only the odd 3. then disaster.

goin to hand punch card in with 6 sections to go i slipped off a rock into another one and found myself in an uber amount of pain. anyway i soldiered on i hadnt paid £19 squid and endured the finest british weather to give up now.

hobbled round the sections in horrendous conditions, rode as well as i could and finished!

packed up quick sharp to head home, using heal to press clutch pedal i was in that much pain (and ash refused to drive haha). ice my foot for a good 30 mins then drove of to play a game of football. won that went to airedale A&E, and at half 11 was told i should be walking!!! now on crutches feeling very sorry for myself, 4 weeks off riding :(

top stuff. here are a few pics, some ok ones some just capturing the weekend we had

  18. snap!

been running my simtra for about a month now and its lovely, get it on osme rocks and you'll really appreciate the dual discs

to runa 180 you would have to destroy the frame in terms of cutting anough out of it to get the no. 5 caliper in, and its too close to the welds to do that.

looking nice there, good choice of frame colour too makes the red parts stand out a mile

  19. to the usual question of "where's ur seat" i tend to now reply

"your mum borrowed it to go f**k herself with"

when running maggies people used to annoy me intensely by tellin me to "oil my brakes" yes because putting a lubricant on a braking surface works well 100% of the time.

best one ever though was "why do you do this stuff its f**cking stupid" said to me by some chav about 18/19 years old bottle of white star cider in hand. so i told him "for the adrenaline rush"............now this is the funny/disturbing bit..........he told me "ur an idiot you get the same rush of pills, without all the risks" (to make this more chav like insert random expletives, inits and mans where appropriate and where not appropriate to make it unintelligable)

  20. the way the rotor is i have tried the number 5 caliper which would be a standard 140 rotor, trouble is the mount has no recess for the smaller caliper to sit in and requires the number 3 due to its longer legs. cant cut any of the mount away because it is too close to the welds and well would look horrendous.

i would be scared running a front rotor any bigger than that, 180 is perhaps as powerful as it need be. i was fine with a 160.

and yes i wish i could still be on the pashley, it was the nicest bike i have ever had, rode like a dream and was in fact my dream bike, wanted one ever since seeing it at bike show a few years ago (2002???).

i'm gettin more and more used to it, having to totally change my riding style now, taps are a must, i never tapped on the pashley, too short. natural is so much fun, the discs work amazing on the rocks and the bb rise seems to make the bike float around the rocks. as for street, well i always find street boring but its right enough

oh.......uber big scratch on the down tube now
