Got a cracking ride on the roadbike and spotted "the gentlemans jolly" doing the north coast 500, likely just the novelty at the moment but fair to say it has transformed the roads of the Highlands north of Inverness from camper vans to supercars, well the white virus never dies but darn successful idea so far. Of course in spite of that many locals are livid about it all.

I personally joined again last year due to nostalgia from the days of 05/06, when coming home after school and riding and watching videos on here was life, been busy and cold enough recently to ween my self off the force of habit of coming on here when I've don't have an interest in trials anymore. Bike for sale.

Well it wouldn't be cos30 alone, but 203.9/cos30 (203.9sec30)

Assuming the approach I suggested is valid, then that value for the initial velocity is indeed only in the vertical direction, hence at that point you want to find the complete velocity (its just the vector resolution) so taking Uvertical and dividing by cos30 will give you the hypotenuse(the complete velocity, which the question asks of) and that would be you finished there.

If you split the projectile in half so that you have a triangle approximation with base 18 and height 18tan30 then you can use V(vertical)=0 as at the top its a turning point for vertical velocity. Using v^2 =u^2 +2as its possible to obtain u(initial vert. comp.) Boils down to u=sqrt(-2as)
s=18tan30, a=-9.81m/s/s, v=0m/s, u=_(rearrangement of the above)
initial velocity = u(vertical)/ cos30
Its been a while since I'v done that stuff , so it could be complete rubbish.

I see, if I'm not mistaken there's some really scenic parts of Ayrshire but other than I know very little about it. Wouldn't mind living in the south of England just to get away from the bleak winters we get here in the Highlands!

I'm not particularly informed on the area being from the Highlands, so by no means the best judge of it more just a bit of banter. Historically Ayrshire and Renfrewshire were pretty big mining areas so there's never been a huge deal of wealth. I think house prices there are fairly low compared to other parts of Scotland and recently saw a report claiming Ayrshire is a hotspot for poverty. Personally find that area SW of Glasgow to be pretty grim. Just like any other country there's the nice parts and the not so pleasant, even down to the local regions. I'm sure many people from around there think the Highlands is a shitty place to be living, but definitely couldn't generalize Scotland.
