  1. Hello! Welcome to this journey! I have also read Julien Happich's book and I love it. Good opportunity to say that Julien did a solid job there. Now, the good thing is that the practice is mandatory since no one has gotten drunk to understand the meaning of the word wine, you have to drink it. I started the trials when I was 43, three years ago when I bought my Fourplay, best decision ever!

If you ride often, you should get in the habit of regularly replacing your chain. I replace mine every 3 months. Some people replace monthly. On a trials bike, if you can measure chain stretch, you should replace your chain or accept the consequences.

It is done! It's nice to ride it now as I'm not only using the new chain but also the Pro 5 Hub. Thanks for your advice, Peter.

100% personal sadly. I prefer the thin foam grips (Comas, push on). I tried bar tape, but it was never cushy enough. I also wear gloves, but they are the thinnest full finger available just to mitigate sweat. I'm currently searching for new grips for my BMX and sadly I haven't found any I like yet, lock-on or rubber. I can't use foam on the BMX because it doesn't stand up to the abuse of hitting the ground often.

Looks like I'm getting used to wearing gloves. However, I prefer hands free because I have to put less pressure on the grips. Maybe it's some insecurity of the rookie. I have never tried the foam grips (comas) but I would like to. My girlfriend has Salt Plus grips (with ribs) in her bmx and they’re awesome. 🤙🏻

    Hi!

As you wrote, grips are something quite personal.

I cannot ride with grip too thin. 32mm suits me well. I tried 30mm may times but I got sore hands every time.

I think if you are not confident in your setup, you will get troubles with forearms (grips, gloves, brakes, etc.). Confidence might be even more important that the grips themselves.

One thing I notice too was, that the same grips but with lockon can be harsher, cause the compound is thinner. I went back from lockon and ride push-on grips hold by some wires (like in mx).

Do you feel well with the gloves?

Good point! I don't feel good wearing gloves and I tend to over-squeeze  thinking I might loosen the bars. As a result, my forearms tire faster. If the odi longneck flangeless are not accordionized next to the lever, they will be perfect. I saw that Ali C put them lock on version  in his last Hex built. I hope they have the same compound.  🙏

  5. Hello everyone,

There is a personal factor but: What is the standard width grip to avoid killing forearms in trials? 30mm? My forearms are like rocks since I changed the grips. I had been using the odi longneck grips 🥰 for a year with no problem. No gloves. I changed them for a pair of Synchros dh lock on grips because they were the same ones I had on my DJ but the compound is different and the new ones gave me blisters the first time. So I wear gloves and now my forearms are like rocks as I said before. It seems that the gloves could be the truly reason because I am not used to wearing them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The previous hub lasted 1 year and a half, this one is 1 year and 2 months old. 😬 🤞

RIP the last Pro4 too. I'm going to try the Pro 5. In the meantime I have a Trialtech 108 e.p. on my second set of wheels and it runs fine. 🫶🏻

May I ask what these components are and where you found them? Seems weird they actually manufacture a combo that doesn't fill their requirements... Most trials stems have a wide clamping area. The WAW Ultimate stem has been specifically developed to make that area wider to compensate for the higher bars and torque but I don't know exactly how wide it is.

Requirements that do not match, at least stand out and attract attention… 🤷‍♂️

That's honestly hilarious. I'm pretty sure Trialtech is the widest out there nowadays. I'd pay more attention to the torque spec of the clamp and make sure there are no hard edges on the inside of the clamp. Companies love catch 22s to get out of warranty claims.

I agree with you. The max torque is 6 Nm while the max torque that the handlebars admit is 8 Nm. Besides the inside there are no hard edges (fortunately). What do you mean when you say 22s?

I pulled the trigger and bought myself one. I'm not riding as much these days and hoped a new fancy bike would help me get riding. Problem is I don't want to scratch it :s
I bought the Tomomi model and it rides pretty nicely. Super light and flicky. The brakes needed a bleed and the rear hub sucks.. that's the only gripe I've had with it so far.

Congrats! The Nishikubo model is very beautiful. The aesthetic is amazing and scratching it would hurt! The strength of the frame (Yohan) is proven. You will probably change the rear hub, maybe the rotors or not (personal opinion). Being the first edition they have done a very good job that is very competitive. Canyon has sold a lot of them and we don't see people complaining. One would have to wonder why they have chosen some parts when they have all to do the best possible: financial resources, pro rider, etc. Mystery!

  10. well, after doing what Hope recommended to see if the issue was resolved, I rechecked the hub and found that the internal ratchet on the body hub was off-center, which explains the marks and burrs on the freehub body... no problem at first but when the marks got deeper every month it started to block up so far it's impossible to ride. I don't know if anyone has seen these marks on his freehub body as well. In my case it happened twice on consecutive Pro 4 hubs. 🤦🏻🥹

  11. Congrats to me 😀 on the decision to build a second wheel, after seeing the performance of the first Pro 4 I had... If not, I'd be out of the game until it solve it. And living in Argentina it means weeks. I have a love hate relationship with them because I like how these hubs feel, but they don't last a reasonable amount of time (personal experience). . or maybe 1 year is a reasonable time for trials. I'd like to try the Spank Hex Drive Hub... who knows…

I had this on my Pro 4 after three weeks... Ratchet ring threads are being stripped and there is nothing that can be done other than getting it warrantied. The warranty replacement that I have has been going since August and is fine so far.

hi dude, I got this hub under warranty from another one that broke before. What I don't know is why the body has these marks or if it is normal (it is generated by touching the ratchet) and the reason why it gets locks when freewheeling...

  13. Hello everyone!  Here Javi, one more time with a new Hope Pro 4 rear hub situation (hub: 1 year old)... It really sucks when the rear hub starts to fail… The hub seems fine but when I ride without pedaling I hear a sound like there is a piece of metal inside. Even after clean it and put new lube. On top of that, there are some marks on the body, which means the body touched the ratchet at some point... Also, it doesn't turn properly, it locks as visualized in the video.  Finally, when I checked the hub, I noticed bits of metal as you can see in the pics, probably from the body.  Is it coming to the last days? I hope not!  If this hub lasts more or less 1 year (in my case this is the 2nd), which alternative would be better (in the similar price range) ?  Please, could you give your opinion? Thanks in advance!! 🙂

  14. Hi guys, the new hub looks good and would be great if it could solve the long term reliability issues that amateurs riders have reported. What Mark says makes sense to me, one did not understand, for example, why for years it was recommended to put a double spring to avoid skips, and we did not see a new version of the spring as we see now. However, the Pro4 hub in combination with the warranty response seems to be good value for money considering my case where the Pro4 installed on my Fourplay failed and the company sent me another one for free. This last hub is still running, double spring  and serviced every 6 months (replace pawls and springs with fresh light grease). Although it still skips once or twice per ride. The previous hub lasted 1 year and a half, this one is 1 year and 2 months old. 😬 🤞

Here's an orange Arcade for you @javimic;)

Thanks dude, I was already suffering too much. This could be a reason why we don't see Arcade 2022 on the streets... The owners polish the frames lol.

And to Matt, congrats on this austere but amazing whip with a controversial seat.

They've been in stock at most of Inspired's bigger dealers since Jack Heard posted his. The bike Aaron was (is?) riding was from one of Inspired's US dealers.

I've seen a few riders share theirs on Instagram, but you're unlikely to really see all that many - I think it's one of Inspired's lowest volume models, and there's so much noise on social media it's hard to really see much anyway. Even if you search through things like #rideinspired there's loads of other random content that people have started spamming in there. Those generic "@mtbcontentdaily" type accounts that just post bike photos they've ripped from other accounts and use loads of unrelated hashtags just to try and get views need to get in the sea...

Hi Mark, how's it going? I'm agree with generic accounts and hashtags, it could be. However, I also say that while the Inspired Arcade appears (up to the 2021 model) you will not find the latest model. I wrote this thread after a couple of months (at least) searching for the "fluo orange matte 2022". As I told Adam before, here (perhaps the most popular trials forum) you can't find a few photos or a dozen owners. In fact it seems that nothing about it. All this seems to indicate that this model in particular is not on the streets. We'll see if it changes, thanks for answering, mate.
