  1. Been ages since I've been on here. Seems like quite a few of you have and are going for your test. Well done to those that passed and good luck to those waiting to do theirs.

Got my bike back on the road and I've missed riding her. Just wish we could get some decent weather so I can give her a proper session! Few mods still in the pipe line.

Will update with current pics later.

    Ride safe

  2. Might not be the place to ask but I'll give it a go... I've got Virgin Media broadband, the 20mb package and I'm running it through a Netgear wireless router... Now, My internet has been shockingly slow lately! I never used to password protect my router before but I did about 3 weeks ago and only allowed access for a few things such as my laptop, xbox, iphone and sister and brothers laptop and phones... I just did a speed check using speedtest.net and it came back as the following:

    Ping: 49ms

    Download: 3.44mbps

    Upload: 0.38mbps!

My mate seems to think it's a firewall possibly but I've no idea!

    Any help/suggestions?

  3. A black bridge, end plate and tuning pegs would completely ruin a jazz master. The screws might look ok but think of when the Jazz was created - what it was aiming to achieve through its design etc. Turning all the beautiful chrome black will be like destroying it.

I can see what you're saying and fear not, all the original parts that came with the guitar are being boxed away so I can swap it back to standard whenever I want.

This is how she sits at the moment....

I'm a bit bored of the white pickguard and so on and so I've ordered up a Brushed aluminium pickguard and I'm looking to go for a Red, black and silver theme like you can see in the pictures...

  4. Gents,

Could someone do me a favour and do a quick photoshop for me? I'm going to make a few changes to my guitar and want to see what it looks like before I go ahead and do it...

    jazzmasterplan.jpg

That's the image I want photoshopped if possible?

    jazzmasterplan2.jpg

And the parts I've circled are the parts I want photoshopped to black if possible? I also want all the little screws in the pickguard photoshopped black, again if that's possible?

    Anyhelp much appreciated.

    Ta

  5. I read somewhere (Can't remember where but was probably a load of tosch but hey ho...) that if the Tories get in then they're going to start charging people that are admitted to hospital due to drink. Think it worked out that it costs the NHS over £500 to keep someone in overnight due to drink related issues so rather than the taxpayer having to pay for it, it would be up to the individual themselves.

Like I said, although it's a load of crap and will never happen it seems like a decent idea in my opinion? Would like to think it would discourage people from going out to get rat arsed but then I doubt it would. And for those that wouldn't pay the £500 then they get a custodial sentence with hard labour to make up the fine? All wishful thinking on my part really.

  6. Right I'm after a new car and I've seen the one I want. I was planning on getting the car towards the end of the year but due to limited numbers I'm going to have to get it sooner than I'd have liked or miss out.

So I'm after getting a loan to at least pay the deposit. So yeah what bank to go for the loan? I was going to get the car on finance but would it be best to just get a loan to pay the car off in one go and then I can pay the loan back at my own leisure so to speak... I can easily afford the car as well so yeah...

Also I'm currently with Abbey but was wondering if there's better banks to be with in general...

I'm not that good when it comes to money and things so any advice much appreciated.

    Cheers

  7. Got my bike back on the road... (Y)

Here's a pic as she stands at the moment...

    photo0144o.jpg

Need to sort out my gears really... Bodged my rear gear shifter as it was incorporated into the front brake lever which was in turn riveted into place so I just cut the lever off rather than have to buy a new shifter and so on.

In need of some new tyres though. Still might go along the new smaller wheels with larger profile tyres though...

  8. Ah, they led us to believe the could do it like that. I didn't fully believe them, and to be honest, if they'd been planning on making us just sit around for an hour I probably would've waited for an opportune moment then got the f**k out of there...

I take it to be that this happened in London and was the MET? When I was with the MET I used to get around the 30 minute rule by merely talking to the person and keeping them occupied and only if I got desperate would I use the 30 minute detention so more often than not, I could have kept them there for an hour if needs be and it would all be perfectly legal but I always had an officer with me within 10 minutes but that was an outer London borough. So yeah they can't take it in turns to detain you and in all honesty I would have thought they would have used a bit of common sense what with it being a Friday night in London. I think it comes down to who you get on the day though. I've worked with people that are complete idiots and have no idea how to talk to people which doesn't help the situation.

Anyhow next time if they both detain you then I'd recommend taking their numbers and asking for the stop slip and would put in a complaint... (But make sure you're 100% sure they've told you that you're being detained and to get them to note it down in their pocketbooks...)

Also in answer to Robs bit... It depends what force. In the MET I used to be able to fine people for riding and no where did it say it had to be in the company of a PC and more often than not they're allowed to chase and detain you using force if required and just to make it more interesting, BTP also allow their PCSO's to search persons once they've detained them as they're allowed to search for articles used to effect an escape.

Going off topic a bit really but just to sum up... Request a copy of the Stop slips and if they're unable to provide one then at least take their Collar numbers so you can go into the station at a later date to request a copy.

  9. They're allowed to detain you for 30mins though, so if there's 2 of them that's an hour of you life slowly slipping away...

Just for the record, seeing one of them having a total sense of despair at the fact that even within an hour they couldn't get a 'real' policeman to come and tell us off for riding (On a Friday night, in central London...) was priceless.

Only one of them will be able to detain you... Can't have one do 30 minutes and the other do the next 30 minutes...

And it depends what force they're with as well... BTP issue handcuffs to their PCSO's which allows them to detain with force if needed. So yeah not every force has the same rules as say the next county...

  10. By the way, did you actually ask for his number or was you aiming to get it from the Stop and Search form? I've had my number taken a few times just because people are being really petty and in a bad mood so it's just case of pass over my number and nothing else as that's all they'd need to identify me. Go to your local station if it happened near to where you live or just the local station for the area where you was stopped and ask at the front desk. In all honesty though if they haven't made a record of the stop and search then there's not really much you can do in terms of tracing the officers as there'll be no record of the stop and no way of tracing who was in what area at what time... Try the local station and if there's no trace of it then next time remember to ask for a copy of the stop if you didn't this time as that'll give you all the information you require and it's also your legal right...

  11. You're entitled to a copy of the Stop and Search form and that should have the officers number written on it at least. Go to your local station as sometimes if they can't give you a copy of the Stop and Search form there and then, then you can pick it up from the local station within a period of 12 months. But that could just be a MET thing?

  12. The Pacific is out later this year. Spielberg and Hanks again and is pretty much Band of Brothers but in the Pacific. Can't wait! Also Bridge on the River Kwai, haven't survivors said that films no where near accurate?

  13. They're pretty similar to the ones on the marin. They'll do the job fine, my only concern would be them actually fitting them on the bike.

Yeah don't worry, I'm going to get the measurements and make sure they'll fit before i look at buying...

    Cheers

  14. You may beable to get that exact wheelset, finding where from may be a problem though...

Give us a price range budy, for something similar, with the way prices are at the mo, i'd look to spend about £120ish./

  15. Cheers for the help guys. Glen, Robs right, I'm not after getting a new bike just want to make mine a bit more friendly for the ride to work as the roads here are absolutely shocking.

I can't remember if I made reference to my mates Dads bike when I originally asked for advice but here is the one he owns...

    3818.jpg

Here's a spec of the wheels...

Rear Hub Shimano, 32 Hole Disc with Locking QR

Front Hub Shimano 32 Hole Disc with Locking QR

Spokes DT 14 Gauge Black Stainless

Rims Mavic XM-317, 32 Hole Disc

Tyres Continental Sport Contact, 26” x 1.6” with Safety System

That's the sort of wheels I'm looking for and that set up would be ideal for my commute to and from work so yeah... Any where I can get that wheel set or is it just a case of buy the parts and get them built up myself?

    Cheers for the help guys.

  16. Personally i'd try and stick with the 700 wheels. Although at first they may be a bit wobbly once you get used to them they will be a great benifit. Could always go down the line of a wider profile tyre, something like a 700 x 35c, looks like your running a 28c at the mo, but that is all dependant on tyre clearance. I would recommend continental, have a look on there website as they have an extremely vast range. With regards to wheels your best bet will probably be some second hand ones from ebay, that way you can still get a decent set but at a more realistic price. Any Mavic, Shimano, DT Swiss, Campag gear will be spot on.

What sort of size would you recommend to down scale? My mates dad chose had a decent Hybrid and either had 26" or 24" with discs and it looked and rode really well.
