  1. always heard all this good stuff about the 510's on bmx forums but never used one.

i've used k810 with a 16t sprocket for years now. when i rode 4-5 times a week i changed chains yearly, maybe every 10 months or something.

i can see why kool chains are shit for bmx with the massive side plates, but for trials they're ok. might go test a 510 if i feel like saving a few grammes.

  2. I tested Johnsons Baby oil a few weeks back. Verdict: Not very good

The lever and pads didnt return very fast after a while as well as mineral oil does, it handles compression ok though.

Just incase anybody was wondering :)

kind of obvious, you'd have to search for a long time to find a liquid that isn't considered incompressible. :)

i tried sunflower oil once. it was shite.

for getting magura oil out i connect a bike pump to a bit of hose and then the bleed hole. hook it up and start pumping which blows most of the oil out. compressed air is better, of course.

  3. yamaha recording custom 9000 in 22, 13, 18. 14x5 ludwig supraphonic. all of it more than 25 years old because buying new makes no sense in drums. i have some zildjian k and k custom cymbals also.

  4. Thanks! The shells them selves were from electro music in doncaster. Those guys at that shop did me an amazing deal. The snare drum in that link looks asif its a pdp replica due to the oval lugs. Go for acrylic if you want but it tends to take a good tweeking to get a nice warm sound out of them. Im obsessed with sjc drums. Visit there website www.sjcdrums.com

The lugs or the drum itself has nothing to do with pdp... Kirchhoff is a german company. I found this short text about the snare on a swedish site:

    A pre-dampened snare

The snare drum was definitely my personal favourite (even though the small floor tom came very close) and though I don’t have enough cash at the moment to spend on a full Kirchhoff kit, I could easily see myself getting one of these snares. Not only does an acrylic shell look good in the collection, but it’s a real pearl sound-wise as well. A lot of middle tones in the lower range and great amounts of depth, plus that somewhat dampening acrylic sound combined with a few brighter overtones that opened up the drum. The snare was, just on its own, fully ready for recording, and tuned pretty high (as you can hear on the recording) I couldn’t resist adding Chad Smith’s opening snare fill from “Give it away”. Just had to, you know how it is.

I've had a close look and played this snare myself, as a local drum shop has a complete kit. it's really, really nice.

Oh and i found the sound clip, linky here.

  5. normally takes a little while for the brake to become the best it can with a fresh grind. the old gunk wears off the pads, and the excess aluminium shards wear off quite quickly, and the brake settles down.

a good trials specific pad like any colour bloxx, heatsinks or coustellier pads will work very well, and the pads will last a couple of months if you ride a lot. the grind may last longer or shorter, really depends on what you ride. if you drag your brake a lot in mud the grind will wear down, but if you're a TGS street rider that rides in the dry, the grind and pads will last longer...
