  2. In light of the internet 'blackout', SOPA/PIPA etc, I have just had an interesting debate with a friend regarding the internet and the distribution of information.

He works in the entertainment industry (relying on intellectual property as a main source of income). Things like songs, art, movies etc

I work in science (relying on the (relatively) free distribution of information). Information that may improve medical care, quality of life etc

He says that all intellectual property should be paid for (downloading/copy is stealing, you wouldn't steal a car etc, **which is fair enough**), and suggests that SOPA/PIPA will give upcoming/new artists a larger incentive to produce work (as it would be bought/not ripped off) making more creative opportunities available.

I argue that digital information should be available to the whole online community regardless of cost to the proprietor, as it gives culture, community, science and technology the chance to change, adapt and improve at a minimal loss to the copyright holders, compared to the economy it creates in the internet. Furthermore the PIPA/SPPA bill would end up censoring an exaggerated/inappropriate proportion of the internet, limit free expression and the disrupt dynamics of the internet.

Considering this forum hosts a vast body of information via a range of creative mediums (videos/pictures/external links etc)i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this matter?

    Cheers

  3. Thanks for your comments Haz, but my efforts within the context of the original query.

    1. I assumed he didnt want to be a bodybuilder/weightlifter as Gaz96 quoted: "I'm not looking to bulk up properly just want to add a little bit more muscle mass".

(i appreciated that body builders/weightlifters can be ripped, but i would suggest its an alternative fitness choice, not for your average trials rider)

    2. I didnt say 'Brand' i said "well-established" (as in tried, tested, reviewed).

    3. Im pretty sure there is a 20-60 minute window for protein consumption after strength training so post-workout protein is pretty handy.

    4. My 8-12 Rep reference was meant to be inferred within the 'muscular endurance' portion of my recommend workout strategy. I should have said 6 reps max for strength.

    Cheers

    Tom

  4. I fancy sticking my oar in.

Here the back of my baseball card: In 2 years (on/off supplements) i lost 2 stone, 10% body fat and then put on 4 kilos of muscle and lost an extra 2% body fat.

Bottom line: Unless you want to look like a knuckle dragging nickleback fan who once to expand with water-weight, looking for a stupidly over exaggerated 1 Rep Max you DONT need it.

If your desperate, get a decent, well established Whey and have 17.5g (with water) as a post-workout (cardio, muscular endurance) or 35g when lifting heavy weights (reps of 6 maximum).

Protein shakes are a gimmick that will exploit your finances and abolish any sense of personal responsibility for your fitness and/or strength ("the protein will build my muscles... NO. Going balls out on Deadlifts, Squats, Powercleans and Pull-Ups will build muscle, the protein will help a TINY bit if you DO those exercises).

The ACTUAL secret to muscle building? Eat 6 small portions a day of fish, chicken, turkey, pork, sweet potato, red meat, broccoli, spinach, nuts, seeds, fruit, fruit and fruit (and drink water)etc and FORGET alcohol.

See results in 10 weeks with 3-4 workout sessions a week. If you dont, your kidding/cheating yourself.

    Good Luck!

    Tom

  5. Im a rower, use ergs (rowing machines) all the time. My advice, go to the gym and use a concept 2. They really are miles better than anything else but they typically cost £1000 (£500-600) second hand.

Gym will cost you max £50 pounds per month and the erg wont take up your entire flat space or stink your flat out with man-sweat.

  6. I have been riding a Echo Modstock (Long) for 10 months now. Apart from a bit outdated geometry and heavy, it couldn't be better.

Rock solid BB yoke, chain-stays and the 4 bolt booster gives virtually no flex.

Ride it until it snaps, which shouldn't be in the foreseeable future.

  7. Simple answer: No.

Floated at about 14 1/2 stone for 4 years of trials (riding hard 4 times a week).

Now ride 3 times a week but do circuit training, weight complexes, running etc and down to 12 stone 8.

Weight loss helps trials MASSIVELY though IMO

  8. He's making riding difficult for himself by using obscure geometry. He will be a better rider because of it.

Reminds me of this brakeless fetish everyone seems to be gripped by, it doesnt make any sense and looks counterproductive.

But when he gets back on his TGS bike he will appreciate the advantages of the geometry and use it more.

We have all done something similar (be it 'retro' bikes, brakeless or 24")

Either that or he has no imagination.
