  1. yeah thats what I read, same plastic for g3, g4, colour, and nano... yet everyones only complaining about the nano. Seems a bit odd to me (Y)

I've got a 2GB Nano, and I think it's ace. It does everything I want and nothing more. Almost perfect in design, I'd say. It's a little scratched but nothing I wouldn't expect.

The reason these are getting scratched more than the old ones is actually stupidly simple: the old/normal ipods, even the mini's, are really too big to just throw in your pocket if there is anything else in there, but the Nano is so damn small you find yourself just sticking it in any pocket and forgetting you have keys/coins/phone in there already. Hey presto, fooked Nano.

If you put any ipod in a bag with some keys and coins and shook it around for a few hours a day it would get scratched too.

Tip for the day: put it in the little inner pocket that you have on your jeans. It's a perfect fit and there's no chance of it jangling around with all the other shite you keep in your pockets :D

    Tom (a happy Nano owner).

  2. I 'aquired' it a few weeks ago, Joe, and I'm right behind you on this one - top film. Tarantino was a cameo director for it, and it shows... If you liked Pulp Fiction, watch this. Also, I found out the other day that there are tweo more to come - this is just the first installment (Y)

  3. Sorry dude, but I goin with the negative crew on the tattoo. It doesn't float my boat at all.

On the other little topic here, one of my mates had the back of his neck done a while ago - looked so brutal when they were doing it, but they numbed it and he said it really didin't hurt. I think on him it looks ace, it really suits him but doubt it's for everyone. I'd rather have that done than a tat; at least you can take it out if you don't like it.

  4. >Intellibuddy: Sex is more fun alone.

    :-

So let me get this straight... out of the 30 odd people who have replied, most have tried to chat this thing up or even more worringly tried to shag it, and all it wants is to beat one off?

I don't know if I should be more worried about a wanking internet robot or you guys (Y)

  5. Tom Busfield kept sending me that...or at least I thought it was him and I was getting really annoyed  (Y)

I was clicking the link but it wouldnt load anything until it asked to download something, luckily I didnt download it  :D

Yeah, sorry about that... You think it was annoying you though, it's taken me ages to finally nail the b*****d thing! I did have my MSN name as "Gay viruses :@ Don't open any links I send unless I tell you they're safe first!" though, so it's not like people weren't warned!

Google for something called 'stinger', that's what sorted it for me.

Edit: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ There it is: DL and run it. Takes a while, but it sorts the problem.

  6. Basically, I know where there is an Apple G3 ibook going seriously cheap, but the screen on it is fooked. I looked on a couple of sites for replacements, but they come in at about $200 (which is a bit over £100 I'm guessing).

Anybody that's in the know, do you think it's worth me going for this laptop and fixing it (at <£200 it would still be cheap I think) or should I steer clear? Are they hard to replace?

Any thoughts (apart from 'macs are shit, get a windows laptop' ones) welcome (Y)

  7. the first frame i made, was largely welded with 2 old car batterys a set of jump leads and some arc welding rods !

I hope to God that if you do start making frames nobody buys one, for their sake! You can buy used arc welders for about £30, so is there any need to bodge things in such a monumentally huge way?

I could go into detail about this topic, but the fact is I'd be wasting my time. Anyone who has looked into a project like this seriously will know what I mean.

  8. Evening lads and lasses.

I want to make myself a frame because I feel nothing out there caters for me.

However I don't know how to weld, and I think that building a jig may cost a lot, so is it really necessary?

I seem to remember something about it not being used for prototype frames??

Get your priorities right, man. If you can't weld, you're wasting your time making a jig. When we did our custom frame we didn't use a jig and we couldn't get it spot on, despite everything being clamped down to a lathe bed (i.e. perfectly flat). What I would suggest is:

    1. Learn to weld.

    2. Weld together a good quality jig

    3. Now start making your frame. I'd suggest finding a frame that's closest to what you want, and building the jig round it, making small changes as you go.

Yes this will all take time, but if you actually want to get a rideable frame out of it then time is needed.

  9. I had the same problem with my rear wheel, and:

Go 'over, over, over, under' for 4x, instead of 'over, over, under' as you would for 3x.

^^^ That's what I would have said, only he put it better (Y)

Also, I found that if you put all the spokes in one side then lace it up, rather than doing one at a time it's easier. Overall I think 4x is a moose to do (Y)

  10. Another random find whilst doing uni work. Don't even ask how/why...

From Thomas Alan Busfield, I got

    - half mad, suitable son

    - to bashful ladies' man

    - lesbians half mad out

    - deathful, boss animal

    - a shameful bold stain

    - i am a bull-nosed shaft

    The list goes on!

Download the free generator thing and lets see who can make the most obscure anagram of their name (or anything else that might amuse and distract me some more :P" )

    Enjoy

  11. If I had a pound for every person on here who has snapped a frame and then asked the next obvious question with the word 'weld' somewhere in it, I'd be able to buy myself a new frame :(

While I was doing some research for uni work just now, I found this site here. It's jammed full of useful information about welding with aluminium, but for those with a sub-goldfish attention span, I'm gonna be real nice to you and give you the gist of it: (if there's any holes in this, feel free to slap me and point them out... it is like 2.15am!)

    post-741-1113958542_thumb.jpg

That thaaare is a table of types of aluminium and some of their basic properties. Now, basic alu in its raw form is pants, so they chuck in extra stuff to make it perform better in certain applications. As you can see, the range of blends starts at 1xxx (let's call it 1000 - you'll see why in a minute) and goes to 8000 (maybe further, I don't know, or for this cause, care (Y) ) The different additives they put into the blend also change the way the material behaves when heated during welding and heat treatment, and the numbers following the first number denote what the blend is...

Soooo... the main blends you will be concerned with are 6000 and 7000, as these are generally the ones used in frame construction. Anything like 6061, 7005, or other blends beginning 6/7 fall into those categories, and if you look at the chart, are heat treatable, which means that to get the best from the material, it should be heat treated, which you frame will have been when it was made.

If your frame is made of either of these blends and you snap and have it re-welded, the heat generated during the welding process will alter the state of the material again, meaning that it will not be at its former best, probably meaning snappypoos will follow shortly.

Anyways, I hope this little explanation clears the fog of confusion that seems to surround welding alu. It might be of some use/help/interest to somebody out there. If nothing else it might help someone with a design project... it did me :D

  12. What about facing opposite the drop then backhopping off the drop backwards? Think about it, if you were stood on a diving board facing away from the pool, you'd find it a lot easier to flip backwards than forwards.

I know from wakeboarding/kneeboarding that backflips are easier to learn than front flips too.

Anyone got a pool in their garden? (Y)"

  13. I was getting that a lot when I still had the beta version of MSN 7, and it eventually wouldn't sign in at all. Went back to the antique windows messenger and used that for a while with no problems, and now I've downloaded the full version of 7 it's all peachy, signs in first time every time.

I'd uninstall any versions of messenger that they currently have and get 7 full.

    Tom

P.S. If they already have 7 full, do feel free to shout 'abuse' :(

  14. Thing is, this road is not in a residential area. Its a country back road with af few houses along it, and if you asked me before this, id have said it was  60mph.

But unlucky Joe, no more speeding ;)

Joe, that f**king sucks. I've driven down that road before and I know damn fine that I was doing at least 60 most of the way down there. I think the police round our area are on a par of shitness with those in Nottingham.

Joe gets done for doing 14mph over the limit on what should be a derestricted road anyway (like the rest of the roads round that area) but when people are dealing big quantities of drugs, getting beaten and stabbed in the same small town, where are the police then?

Sorry, but I think the majority of these cameras are police piggy-banks.

  15. nah, you don't have to grind them, someone on here runs one on his ET without a grind, says it was fine

Yup... me. Not much space to play with when setting up pads, but you don't have to gring em.

  16. Ok, I have no access to oxyacetylene so I used a butane/propane mix and after about 4 mins I got the steel glowing cherry pink. I used (not shure but its gold) brazing rod but it just kind if snapped off and didnt melt.

I used flux and as far as I know it was hot enough.

    Any ideas?

    Sam

You can't braze with butane/propane mix because it won't get the metal or the filler rod hot enough. Propane/butane mix things like you have are only intended for plumbing - silver soldering copper pipes together and the like.

Gotta have the right kit for the job I'm afraid!
