  1. I may have to invest in some then. After spending a good hour setting the bike up to fit me, I've just been for a very quick blast and I love it. Over taking cars haha. Next on the shopping list is some gloves, helmet, shorts and maybe some sort of top :) it took some getting used to riding with my feet strapped in!

A good helmet is a must - I know it's 'only' riding on a road, but from experience when you hit the tarmac at speed (down hill) it can be pretty nasty, I've done more damage on a road bike than I ever have riding off road - broken teeth, lots of stitches/road rash etc... without a helmet it could all be so much worse!

Lycra feels stupid at first but it makes a big difference, DHB Earnley shorts & jerseys are pretty good and not to pricey - alternatively you can buy padded under shorts to wear under baggys.

You will get addicted to it eventually!

  2. Check out Swinley Forest near Bracknell - loads and loads of nice flowing technical(ish) singletrack. There are a few freeride/short DH bits as well I think. Some of the best bits are quite hard to find if you don't know your way around so it might be worth trying to tag along with a local. Info

  3. i was worried about that, but when i sit on the seat and touch the floor i'm on the balls of my feet, which is not to bad, its only for a bit of fun and fitness nothing serious, hopefully it'll do the job

It might be to low then... when the pedal is down your leg should be almost straight (but not so it is locked out), getting your saddle position right will make a massive difference to comfort/performance and be much easier on your knees - even if it is only for a bit of fun. There are some good videos on the internet (Click) about setting up your riding position correctly.

    :)

  4. I use rockshox tora 318's on my xc bike. They are not mega light, but light enough and ride pretty nicely as well. New 2010 ones are just over £200, but if you shop around/ebay you might be able to get a second hand or discounted older version for much less.

  5. I race 1/12th scale oval - Few pics:

Hot Rod - Will hopefully be able to run the new hotrod brushless class in the early part of the year. Also thinking of building up a saloon stox as well!

  6. Thanks for the replys!

Not concerned about the chest drain, already had three of them and my lung has always come up fairly quick. (This is being done as an outpatient thing as my lung is currently in its 'normal' state and was told i'll be in 3-5days)

The boredom and crazy people are always the worst bits! Last time one guy thought it was still ww2 and he had been kidnapped by germans, attacked another patient with his walking stick and had it confiscated!

  7. Sorry to bring back such an accient thread but I just came accross it... I have had 3 spontaneous pneumothorax's over the past 9 months and am having the surgery next week - similar to what anzo had - they are stapling together all the blebs/lung blisters then sticking the lung in place with the talc. Fun stuff, but as long as it means no more collapsed lungs it's all good!

Anzo (or anyone else that may have had the same op) - were you left with any permanent nerve damage in your chest? I've heard of a few people having being left worse off than before they went in. The surgeon said there is a small chance it could happen (either a permantly sore chest or numb chest) but in some cases it goes back to normal after a few months max.

You can get a pneumothorax doing pretty much nothing - like going up stairs or getting off a bus. I don't think that regular exercise is known to cause or prevent pneuomothoraces so you're both wrong :P

I'm proof that it's not always exercise related. The first one happened in the middle of night, I woke up with chest pain, second time watching tv and third whilst having breakfast!

  9. Some guys from my work paid to take their bikes across to Liverpool, rode all the way down there just to hear it'd been cancelled & then had to ride all the way back in that sh1te weather.

I was over watching the grand national at the weekend so i didn't hear much about the BSB, will they run double points at the final round again or will it just be scrapped off because nobody has any points yet?

Its been re-scheduled for 10/11th May. Which works out quite nicely for me, might go for the weekend.

  10. I think Kimi will be the dark horse, prob heavy on fuel and will pass everyone when they pit. Be nice to see Kubica win for a change though.
