  1. Hey everyone

basically, I was thinking about gettting a mountain bike with my GF and go riding around mountains, but I know little about mountain biking!

as I ve been riding trials bike, I d want a nice good mountain bike. and for my GF she can just hav a basic but decent bike.

Probably only going to climb some mountains, but definitely would want the option of going hardcore - downhill

so can any mountain biker give me some advice as to what I would want, and for my GF.

i.e. full suspension or hardtail? and brands, componets ect...

    Many thanks

  2. Hi,

So much choice it really depends on what you want to do.

Most hardtail bikes above £300 will handle reasonable off road riding, above that you pay your money and make your choice. Full suspension you are looking above £500. Mostly the lighter the better, remember that you will be carting it up hills, this goes double for the GF as she may not have the extra strength.

For the GF get a bike built for a woman as the ratio of the top tube / seat tube is different, also spend a bit of extra money on a proper saddle designed for a woman. These are worth there weight in gold and quite often make a difference between getting in to riding and stopping. We bought a saddle at a bike show for my wife, from a company called terry who specialise in women's bike equipment, the first time she rode with it she said that for the first time she was actually not in pain after 10 minutes.

I think we will just be climbing mountains with the bike, but definitely have the option to go hardcore off road :P so probably worth finding a second hand mountain bike, which has been upgraded??

and then up grade my own? but getting a good saddle for my GF was a brilliant shut :) thanks.

Any advice on good brands or must have components?

  3. Hey everyone

as you can see this post isnt about trials, but I wasnt sure where to post it

  4. Could easily save a shit load of weight by getting rid of those shin eater dmr pedals... F**king beastly, my mate had them on his Dmr sidekick..

wellgo bear cages :shifty: but yer i m gonna get those new lovely thin thin echo cage pedals soon

  5. weighs exactly the same as my mod. I want to go a bit more light weight though. Sub 9kg wold be nice. Any idea what the wheel base is on this? As in the measured figure not just one from tarty? Cheers.

The wheel base is 1000mm (give or take) with my echo team fork.

Those forks are heavy, with a few changes i can easily make it 9kg and less :giggle: .

  6. I'm loving the white tyres. But get rid of those forks, are they Gu? If they are they weigh a tonne so get some lighter forks.

Also get rid of all the red and your onto a winner!

They re Echo Team Forks (07 i think) I ll get some new lighter forks, when I ve sorted out other bits :turned:

...but i like the red (part from the chain) :giggle:

  7. Hey people

I recently got a bumper bag from Steve heatsink. :turned:

now I ve got 3 pairs of compounds >_<

2 pair can be cut into the backing shape - but what do i use to cut it with?

the other pair is 8mm thick - so do i just glue this straight on a backing? (probably best to glue it on to a backing that has material on it, rite?)

    thanks alot

  8. Hey

I ve been trying to find a Lub suitable to use on the steerer and the BB, Basically general lub! :giggle:

But theres soo many chooses and I just want a good cheap Lub for my bike

Can some one tell me which one to get that is good and cheap >_<

    Thanks

  9. Paint remover would do, should be able to get it in most places, I did it recently "Made it all nice and new looking :turned: "

make sure you leave the paint remover on for enough time though, otherwise you will just have to do it again!!

You will need something to clean it with, I used white spirit

  10. Hey Everyone

I came across a leaflet about Tagging Your bike with an electronic tag.

Something about you can register it with the police, using the unique serial number, and that they could track your property?! <_<

It only costs 14 pounds, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

Since all our bikes worth soo much :-

cool bike man, is this the long or short version? what's it ride like?

Its a short frame, and I ve still have only rode it about 3 - 4 times, so not use to the bike yet!!! "rubbish"

I would also like to know this please :)

Nope no problems at all, They sent it to me with thing stuck on saying Happy Birthday.

Customs shouldnt charge you VAT if its a gift from someone :-

"I had my Bike sent from overseas last year, and they sent me a letter saying to pick up your parcel and there was charge of 90 pounds that I had to pay at a main royal mail depot"

    I was soo annoyed <_<

  13. I like it :P
