  1. Basically, thought I would share my latest purchase... I've had many bikes this past year, and have always ridden 20" bikes so a 24 is taking a bit of getting used to... Anyway, it is great fun and I'm not too far off my old Pb's!

  2. no caustic wont remove laser etching! a mate of mine did his try all h hub, and his echo sl frame, both have laser etched logos and they are still on there, not even faded!

    Ok sweet cheers boy!

I've stripped 2 echo headsets exactly the same way, just remove the headset before the caustic eats too deep.

Awesome, so once the gold has come off, get it out sharpish?!

Any idea how to get it a very vibrant silver with 'rubbing off' the king logos in order to buff it up before lacquer goes on?

    Cheers for the input people!

  3. It will remove all markings on the headset and completely strip it..

Ive done quite abit in caustic soda..im quite the pro! Ha

So you're saying the logos will go?!

yep caustic will leave the logo's as i belive there laser etched on! will be an easy little job.

you could shine it up and lacquer it to keep its shine, but up to you really

be careful with caustic though, that stuffs lethal, use proper protection, gloves and sfuff, dont breath it in if you can

Yeh proper protection would be used at all times, i wasn't sure about the lasing etching as to how far down the soda actually removes markings

    Will leave the logos 100%

We need a third opinion now for a deciding vote haha!

  4. Hey people,

Was just wondering whether the use of caustic soda on a king headset would remove the entirety of the paint, but leave behind the laser etched logos? And also, if this works, would a coat of lacquer retain the rawed finish- despite no paint being applied?

    Cheers!

[PS- it's gold, and I'm looking for any other colour so if you want to swap and save the hassle of potentially ruining an awesome headset, let me know ;) ) Haha.

  5. It will need to be totally stripped of every speck in every corner or the anodising will end up spotty. You can't just blast the paint off either or you end up pushing particles of paint into the aluminium which just causes more problems.

Anybody suggest a good way of stripping it so it will be 100% clean?!

I'm assuming nitromors? And then potentially sanding? I would like to know how to get a perfect prep service too haha
