  1. So you had the drive working in a previous build of Ubuntu?

Yep, and it's picked in BIOS. I would switch back to the old version but there were problems with my sound and graphics cards. I'm not sure whether it's the upgrade that's caused this problem but it does seem like a bit of a coincidence!

  2. I've had non-stop problems with my laptop and Windows validation etc (long story) recently so I've switched to Ubuntu. All of a suddenly it won't detect my dvd drive yet the hardware itself whirs into life as normal and then whirs back down after a minute or so, without any nasty noises etc. It seems to be ever since I updated the Ubuntu version. I've googled no end without success. I go into the bit a click on the cdrom icon in the filesystem and a blank folder comes up! Argh this is so annoying! Anyone good with Linux?

  3. To add something a bit more constructive...

I think the BNP's existence is currently quite important since it puts neccesary political pressure on the leading parties to make (and keep!) some promises about the immigrations systems in place in this country.

You shouldn't have to have a party practising that form of extremism for that to happen, however the leading political parties of the western world bailing out a 'financial crisis' for the same price it'd cost to power the planet renewably is pretty indicative of how mainstream political groups think so I wouldn't put a great deal of faith in any of them. It's all about election/reelection and whatever is required in between.

  4. f**k people, calm down. If you don't deal with Adam & Co on a regular basis then the lengths they go to deliver the service they do aren't as obvious. Just because he's a bit worried doesn't mean he's slagging off. On the other hand; don't think the worst of everyone mon ami ;).
