  1. thanks so that will bring it down to a m5 and whats the cost going be iff u now

thanks for the info it will help a lot (Y)

The drilled hole needs to be 5.2mm for m5 (5.173-5.333 tolerance) if the hole is too big it wont work, you may need a keysert solid type insert.

At wti fasteners they supply the kits with the correct size drill bit, tap, 10 inserts, tang break tool £22

  2. Basically what they do is they tap the stripped thread to the size above e.g. if the thread is m4 then they tap it to m5.Then they screw a steel insert in wich makes it back to m4. (Y) .I had my thread in my frame helicoiled it didn`t cost a penny!Takes 2 mins aswell!

The M4 stripped thread is drilled out to 4.2MM (tolerance 4.152-4.292mm) and then tapped with the correct wire insert tap, then the insert is wound in making sure it is installed with 1/2 a thread pitch either end if it is too long cut the oppersite end from the installation tang and make sure there are no burrs. When positioned correctly break the installation tang off either with tang break tool or long nose pliers.

Do not use thread lock. The thread is ready to accept the m4 bolt etc.

look at wti fasteners ltd website.

  3. Hi all,

I have a Monty frame with a duff thread on the front bolt of the sump guard. Any advice? Is helicoil the best way to sort it out? Can you buy them in small quantities? Are they easy to do, or would I be better to just shove it in to a shop and have done with it.

    Cheers

try wti fasteners, no minimum order charge. kits around £22

  4. Probably would've been easier and better in the long term to helicoil them to the same size.

If you scope it out on eBay/Google, you could find a helicoil kit you could use yourself? I haven't done it myself before, but from everyone I've spoken to about it it's not too hard to do, and would be better than tapping it out to M6. Expect to pay £20-30 for the kit though.

try wti fasteners for thread repair kit around £22 + post

  5. My mates dad has one. There very easy to use. I think they will sell them in any hardware shop. :)

wti fasteners, they will send in the post the sameday for next day delivery.

you dont want to re-tap it.

    get an insert

thats what i did anyway just because

    i didn't have any 5mm threads.... (Y)

EDIT: just involves drilling it out, popping the insert in and squirting some stud lock in it.

Do not put thread lock on wire thread inserts as you will lose the mechanical advantage gained.

  6. Well, About a 3 weeks I was setting my brake up and all of a sudden the bolt went loose, I took the bolt out Including all the threads.I got my frame helicoiled and it was fine for a quite a long period of time..But now sadly it's happend again. So I was wondering can I get it helicoiled again or will I need to do the worst and purchase a New frame?

    Thanks In Advance

    Sam....

The 'wire thread insert' insert must be fitted at least 1/2 thread pitch below the surface of each end of the tapped hole, if fitted correctly it shouldn't come out.

if you need to get them out, either use the correct extraction tool like an arrow head shape tool, or just grip with pliers and rotate backwards like undoing a bolt, dont be tempted to just pull it out as this will damage the tapped hole.

A new one will just screw straight in, just position it right.

WIRE THREAD INSERTS are always quoted as the finished length e.g. m5 x 1.5d = 7.5mm of thread when installed in the tapped hole.

If the insert is too long, you could cut the oppersite end to the installation tang(back of the coil) make sure there are no burrs.

Do not use 'thread lock' as you will lose the mechanical advantage gained by using wireinserts.

Ask wti fasteners for help or advise.

  7. thats an awesome name youve got! try and repair all the nmc threads lol

have a good time and stick to the guidelines!

as the name suggests 'thread repair' Helicoils are ' wire thread inserts' used to strenghten or repair stripped threads.

if anyone would like advise or quotes let me know. :)
