  1. Reet chaps, the past week or so ive noticed my maggie has been developing slightly sticky piston, (i.e. not returning as fast when i let go of the lever). It started on the drive-side of the brake and was dragging a bit so i readjusted the cylinder farther out to avoid this, and now the non-drive side piston is sticky. Is there a quick, short term way of solving the sticky piston? I am riding tommorow, and if im honest its a bit of a pain in the bumhole . The lever feel itself is fine just pressing it, locks solid, no spongey feel but when lurching for example it fells really mushy and im not getting a decent bite and when lurch i can feel the pad still dragging slighlty when i let go of the lever to pedal. I should point out that i hardly ever ride in the rain and its been a fairly dry summer, so would it just be drying up inside thats causing the sticky piston?

    Any help much appreciated :)

    Dan

Remove the offendening cylinder remove piston and thouroughly clean o ring and cylinder bore and refit, bleed it on water. JOB DONE!

Shouldn't take any longer than 30mins

  2. Yep, steel for the moment, will move to ally when i've got a bit more experience with it.

Pretty much the kamel, lol, just really like smooth curves in a bike.

1065, +55, 375 is what im thinking, have got an echo control 09 atm and just finding it quite long.

    Cheers,

    Josh.

Sounds nice, good luck with the build!

  3. yeah I bolted an old cylinder with standard maggie pad to the steel mounts and held it against the rim, tacked them and welded them properly.

Looks more off than it is. and will fit a tryall rim in the back without offset mounts.

Hey at least they are in the right place now!! (Y)

probly sell it to be honest! but at least someone might buy it now. no one wanted it with vee mounts!!

  4. Well chopped off the incorrectly mounted vee mounts today and welded on my 4 bolt mounts i got from tarty...

And all built up with a load of spares i've got.

Just need better forks/cranks/bars/stem/new front brake.

Time to mount some slicks and go to the skate park on it.

  5. Pretty sure there is a pin through the steerer (at the back maybe?). If so, might be worth drilling that out, you can always put a bolt and nut back in afterwards (Y)

Not sure you can get replacement steerers for those forks that easily though... :(

Its annoying cause i love Fattys and these a really good, bar the steerer!

I will have a look for that pin you suggested

    cheers Adam.

  6. The story...

Lets cut back to NASS 2003 at Shepton Mallet, 2 weekends previous i had won the trials comp at the Peterborough show, I had treated myself to a new set of Fatty Rs the weekend in between in time for shepton mallet event. anyway I was finishing my heat coming down off the big tower into the quarter we had built I landed and collided with then a good mate of mine. Anyhoo me on the nice lightweight pace against then a hefty steel curtis! you can sort of guess what happenend my new fattys less than a week old bent backwards not the ally though the steel steerer tube, so my forks were trashed! I felt like crying then!

And iwas clearing my shed out the other day and found these fattys looked at them a bit closer and found the steerer is pressed in not bonded they had been given such a knock the steerer had started to come out so i gave the steerer a bit of knock with the old persuader to see if i can get it to budge some more and it did to a point where it wouldn't move anymore.

So i guess the question is does anybody know of anywhere i might be able to get the steerer tube replaced on these truly awesome old school forks?

  7. But that didn't really work at the skatepark nick!

Nah hes right though if your finding it hard to flatten the bike practice bunnyhopping without a wall to start with. or find a slightly angled wall!

Its will hurt the first few times you try!

  8. Looked really good from all the pictures I've seen Adam gutted i couldn't make it.

One thing i'd like to suggest i saw an awful lot of people not wearing helmets in pictures!

HELMETS SAVE LIVES!!! I really think you should make helmets mandatory. Just my 10 pence worth.

I would hope some people would agree with me on this!
