  1. I need to build a new front wheel and cant decide what rim to go for. I use a front disc so was thinking of a disc specific rim like the Mavic XM 317 or if I can justify it a XM917. Anyone got any thoughts on what is a good light front rim? That also isnt too fragile?

  2. i hate to be the only bad reviewer ere... but i really wouldnt recommend them.

In just on 8months i went through two 07 hub shells and one 08 hub shell. Just got another new hub shell from hope (great service!) but im not going to use this hub ever again.

sold it to forum member with new shell installed.

id personally prefer to save the xtra $$ and get a King!

they are a popular hub though and only a few people from wat iv heard have had problems with them. but yeah thats my experience with them..

How did you manage to go through so many shells?!?

Kings are a hell of a lot more though and I dont have that kind of cash lying around. The good thing about hope is that they are UK based so there is a lot of second hand kit for sale.

  3. Was thinking of getting new rear hub and the pro2 trials looks good. 48 engagments, not too heavy. Its used on DH bikes so it pretty strong. What do people think about it? Anyone got one have any good / bad things about it?

  4. OK Thanks a lot Tomm,

I think I might get a set of rigids then and maybe some short travel sus if I can aford it to use for streets stuff and just swap them over.

Hey Tomm do you have any idea how the woodman elite holds up as a trials frame?

Was considering it but not so sure now?

  5. No, they're terrible brakes on a DH/XC bike. Ever worse for trials as they have no bite or hold at all. Sell them and buy maguras.

Yeah thats why I took them off my DH rig and put some hope mono 6 on "bling"

guess they are generally usless then..

Anyone want to buy them :-

  6. How do Hayes HFX 9 disc brakes hold up for trials stuff. I got an old pair from my Downhill rig and am considering putting them on the trails bike Im building.

Ill be getting smaller rotors though as the ones I have are 203mm

    Any thoughts?

  7. Was wondering what the differences between a street/dirt frame and a stock trials frame were as to geometry etc. All I can make out from pics is that trials frames are much shorter but maybe thats just how they look on the picutres as Ive never seen any side by side.

Was going to get a stock trials bike but I think I might fancy something that has front suspension and can do street and maybe some dirt stuff as well. Anyone got any ideas for a frame and setup?

    Thanks

  8. Hi,

I live in london and usually ride a lot of downhill or XC but having to travel for miles to get out of london is starting to wear on me. Some friends of mine used to do street /trials and that kind of thing when I was at uni and it looked really fun. I dont really know anything about trials though: frames, wheels 20' 24' 26', makes etc... Can you point me in the right direction to start looking for a bike and maybe some beginners makes /models. Got about £100-£200 to spend on a second hard rig but then again I have no idea what that will buy me. Im quite tall 6'4" and weigh about 14.5 stone. Any help would be great.

Also are there any good online shops that sell trials stuff?

    Thanks

    James
