  1. I've been running a half-link chain for a while, but recently swapped it for a new normal one to avoid a painful faceplant.

My chain keeps skipping when I put a bit of a load on it. Changed the tensioner for a double wheel type so chain wrap isn't a problem, also the chainline is spot on. I'm running a Hope Pro II hub but that seems fine, pretty sure it isn't the freehub slipping.

Anyone else had skipping issues? I'm thinking it could be wear on the sprockets. Any tips would be much appreciated!

  2. Or, you can buy re-sole kits from 5 ten. If you've got any old shoes that you really liked riding in but are worn out. You can give 'em a new lease of life with a stealth rubber sole

I tried a pair of the 5ten ba5ics, the rubber is insane, they even pick up crap from the carpet. I imagine they'd work best on platform pedals though for the contact area.

I stand on caged pedals with waffle Vans, perfect combo.

  3. I think you're describing a 'machined' sidewall, where there are concentric ridges running the whole way around the sidewall? 521s had a similar kinda thing, though it was barely noticable.

Not sure it has much to do with braking, probably just a result of the finishing on the rim.

  4. Which offers better braking performance; a smooth non-painted rim or a painted rim (also smooth)?

I've grinded a painted one down because the brake was a bit crap, but it's now hideously loud. I've also stuck some new pads on my old bike (smooth, non painted rim) which is now stopping brilliantly and silently. Just wondering if I should have left the rim with the paint on...
