  1. Hey hey, so after bleeding a set of old maggies I noticed it's leaking from the bleed screw at the lever *cry*. Does this mean they're knackered or am I being stupid?

I was trying to look for the "HEY IM A NOOB AND HAVE A QUESTION" sub-forum but couldn't see it.

    Thanks!

Not trying to be funny but cant you just tighten the screw? Unless the thread is knackered or the lever body is cracked then it shouldn't leak?

  2. I'm liking Mint Royale a lot at the moment, i think I've heard a lot of there stuff without even realizing it was them. I'll have a look in HMV when i'm in town next and see what they've got, probably nothing as usual?

Last time i went in there i asked if they had anything by Underworld ,the girl behind the till had never heard of them? She thought i was on about the film,I was gonna mention born slippy from from trainspotting but i guess she would have been about 3 when that came out, i felt old that day :(

I like this but i think it would be much better without the female vocal, or a slightly less whiny voice,or maybe its just me? I do like the orchestral stuff a lot though

The sound quality isn't up to much on this one but the vids o.k

And of course this ( no spazzy kid lying in a puddle thanks )

  3. Finally got hold of Dust Junkys album Done And Dusted and it is quality!

    MC Tunes, what a legend!!

Yeah i got it years ago, quality album, but my cd is scratched to f*ck from being in my car for years and wont play, i'm gonna see if i can get it re-surfaced?

I've also got the Space Monkeys "the daddy of them all" album which is o.k .

  4. Story of my life, I told the missus I was just gonna get my heavy tools up and running at christmas, now on my 3rd frame with a full built mod as well!!

Looking very nice mate, should look awesome with a black front end on as well! As for the rear brake have you tried some heatsink yellows?? I'm running them on the back as I don't wanna ruin my lovely red rims!

Could always spray the cnc backings black!!

I got these pads the other day, haven't ridden with them yet but i thought they're worth a try? I've only ever used the red koolstop pads before and they seem to work well for me but if the cheap ones dont work out then i'll try some heatsinks.

I may get a disk brake on the front but i need to try one first as i spent a lot on hope disks when they first came out and they were a bit w*nk imo, they always started leaking after a few weeks of riding. Still got my universal fit rear one like they used in "tricks and stunts" , probably for the best that it didn't work that well or it would have snapped the brake mount off!

  5. I told my wife i was only going to spend about £300 to build a mod using parts from my old monty 221 x-lite, a new frame and freewheel is all i need.....

Well as it turns out i need a new everything and its going to be a bit more than £300!

The only parts from the monty are the forks, stem, bars and front wheel and all of these are getting replaced asap, especially the stem which has got a crack by one of the welds.

Probably gonna get a 185x35 echo sl stem and trialtech risers at the end of the month and then trialtech forks and a matching front wheel later in the year?

Only just built it this morning so i haven't had a chance to ride it yet and the brakes need a bit of adjustment , i may grind the back wheel but i'd like to keep it all black if it works well enough without a grind?

I think i'll get a black bar and stem ,and trialtech forks only come in black so it should look quite stealthy once its finished.

I'm sure the SL freewheel will attract plenty of attention though, its awesome!

Also i'd like to say thanks to the staff at tarty for providing an excellent service, cheers :D

So what do you think about it so far?

  6. Any shorter than 350mm feels too short! Just means it's really difficult to put down power for gaps and ups without it just feeling like it's going to loop out. You need to have something to 'push' against.

I see what you mean sort of, i was hoping that the longer front end would help to control it though?

I take it that you have ridden some sort of prototype with shorter than 350mm cs then?

I think for the price of a Marino frame its worth trying even if it turns out to be really nasty, i think id regret not trying it once i get to old and decrepit to ride trials (some days i already feel like this) and as much as i value your opinion i still may go ahead with it.

  7. I'm not to sure about BB height as i haven't tried anything with more than +55,but am i right in thinking that the new higher BB frames are aimed at a more TGS style of riding as opposed to a more spinny streety type of riding?

What i'd like to try is a mod with super short chainstays, maybe 300mm or as close to that as possible, and then take the 50-70 mm from there and stick it on the front end so i end up with a longer reach and a frame that fits me ?

    Maybe something like this

    Wheelbase: 1020mm

    Chainstay Length: 300mm

    BB Rise: 55mm

    Head Angle: 72 degrees

Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 680mm(approximately)

I'm 6'3'' and i think that this geo would suit me and my riding style better than anything that i could buy at the moment?

I'm currently building a 09 echo team frame that i got dirt cheap from ebay but if it doesn't work out for me i was considering sending that geo to Marino and seeing what he can do?

Anyone agree with me or am i deluded?

  8. I would buy a set if they ever make them, i don't think that i could tell the difference between them and any other crank out there, i just want Middleburn cranks because i'm a brand whore :P

Also i'd like a screw on Hope hub to go with my ultra lightweight front hub thats sat in the garage, why don't they make them any more?

  9. Below is my Onza Limey 3.20, which has had various modifications. The 4 bolt mounts have been cut off the frame and all the rim brake reinforcement between the chain stays and seat stays has also been removed. The stainless steel rings around the headtube have been removed and the headtube has been faced down by approximately 1cm overall. My front wheel is going to be rebuilt to match the rear (with purple nipples and black spokes) but I am waiting for Onza to bring in their front diamond rims.

In the photo below is my Leeson Clear 660 which I recently bought on ebay, but it turned out that the bottom headset cup was broken where the flange meets the cup and as a result the headtube is badly flared where the previous owner didn't bother to change the headset. :( A new headset cup can be pushed in and pulled out by hand and will rotate in the frame. Hopefully it can be solved with a deep cup headset.

It may be worth trying one of these on the Leeson

I've put one on my new bike and it seems good, its not very light but but the radiation symbols and "warhead" writing keeps me amused! Simple things for simple minds

  10. I thought a 127mm bb would be long enough till I measured the offset, most of the cranks that tarty sell have a 34/35 mm offset.

If they won't fit I would rather add some new cranks to my order before it gets sent, it'll save a bit of time and money.

I don't mind spending the money if there is a noticeable difference between Isis and square taper, never had any problems with my RS7's and they've seen plenty of action!

If anyone knows the measurement between the bb shell and crank arm on a 127.5 mm bb then I could measure it and decide, I guess I need about 5mm clearance minimum between the cranks and the stays to avoid them touching if they flex?

  11. I got an 09 echo team frame the other day and i was planning on using the parts from my old Monty 221 to build it up. Already discovered that my back wheel is too narrow , 106mm by the looks of it and i'm not sure if my cranks have got enough offset to clear the stays? I have measured them as 28mm offset drive side and 25mm offset non-drive side and i have ordered a 127.5mm BB to run them on but cant be sure that they will fit until it turns up?

Do you think they will fit or should i order some new cranks?

Also if i do need new cranks is it worth going for ISIS as I've never had any problems with square taper cranks before and it means spending even more money that i haven't really got?

  12. I work in frozen food warehouse, so -18 is the warmest it gets , lugging boxes around and loading lorries. I'm either sweating like a pig or i'm freezing cold.

I'm on the night shift and i work most weekends so seasons change between nights out with mates.

If its busy i can easily pick over 50tonnes of food by hand per shift, my back aches nearly all the time.

I think its one of the worst jobs in this country?

On the plus side the money is ok and i get a discount on my shopping :D

  13. I've been awake for 24hrs now, only 6 more to go. Does anyone ever get used to working nights? Everyone at my work looks f*#ked! And that includes me btw. Oh well, at least working in a freezer keeps me awke, sort of....
