Ridden those rock many times over the years or so - though hevent't been there for many years. Glad to see they are still there - I prefer them to the darker rocks in the quarry. makes me want to go back.

Good vid Jeff. I saw the demo you guys put on down by the inlet on Canada day - awesome 47" sidehop - you're going to need a higher bar. Back in Vancouver in April - I'll try and bring my bike this time.

With reference to the original poster:
I've been riding trials since 1996 (first comp in 97) and I still love it but only get out once a month really - but that's the secret right there. I only ride when the urge has really built up so I enjoy it. Don't force yourself to ride. Many people lose interest when they leave school (my first comp was during the first year of uni so I had settled a bit after college) as they're exposed to new past times. Don't feel bad about giving up riding, it's just one of those things - people lose interest in things, that's life. I've seen many people give up over the years and many stay that way but some come back. If you're injuring yourself at such a young age it should be viewed as a good thing giving up - there will be more important things to consider in the future than whether or not you should give up trials.

I've done the drive to Buthiers a few times and it's quite easy so I would recommend it. What Wayne says is true about things to do to the car. I never got caught speeding but the French police aren't tolerant of foreign drivers so best to keep it down - it's 80mph on the autoroutes in the dry so that's fast enough. But note people the ferry can be expensive if you don't book early.

Well all I can say is that I'm dissappointed that the Butlers are not entered into the Worlds. I'm aware of the 'incident' but that was three years ago and I know that some people out there don't forget or forgive. I really wish some hatchets would be burried.

No one gives a dab, its quite hard to when observing because every one does it.
Totally right - because other obesrvers don't do it you feel obliged not to do it. If I had been 100% vigorous yeasterday I don't think anyone would have made it through - except Danny Butler who didn't even use his bash ring. The thing is if you have soft shoes then your feet bend round the pedal and you're not actuallu using your foot for advantage - this is the hardest rule to enforce.

A few things to look at here.
1 Riding sections before a comp - well even if Wayne was riding at Addingham a week before the comp he couldn't have rode the sections as they were not there. When I went to the worlds in 2002 in France people were riding the area in the week before the trial but not the sections, so if you rode round Addingham in the previous week i can't see a problem.
Art. 14 PRE-COMPETITION PRACTICE
Riders are not allowed pre-competition practice inside the designated area of the course and sections. Any rider seen with his bicycle in any place (eg. course and sections) one week before the competition will be disqualified from the competition. Any attempt made to practice before the competition will result in the exclusion of the concerned rider from the Championship.
2 Riders should know the rules before a comp PLAESE LEARN THESE - as an observer I get a lot of crap from people who don't know the rules.
Art. 33 KNOWLEDGE OF THE RULES
The riders, upon applying for entry for competition must possess a thorugh knowledge of the present Technical Rules and respect any other instructions given by the organizers in order to improve the event.
Rules can be modified by the organising bodies - like at YMSA -riding sections out of order is not an offence.
To every one competing at the next round of the British Champs - expect some very strict observing as it's the last round before the Worlds. So I say:
1 - Keeps your toes and heels on the pedal - this is always a bone of contention as most riders do this so quick that they don't notice themself.
2 - Get BOTH hubs between the markers - it doesn't matter if you're in the air or not both must go through.
3 - The marker is the point where it enters the ground and not the coloured bit.

PS - Big respect to Aran Cooke (SP?) who rode my section (5) during the monsoon and then his front caliper sheared off 2/3 of the way round and still managed to get out on a 3. That rain was crazy and I mean absolutely MENTAL!!!

The best spectator trial I've ever been to (and I've been in this game for over 14 years) - a great promotion for the sport. Great to see some old faces from back in the day such as Barry Deeks and Austin (both on observing duties). Shame the turnout was low but the end result was highly effective, well done Dave and crew.
