  1. No hope rachets are alu, that jus wouldn't work. They're all steel, I've never used a pro 2, i use 8 gears so I've always used bulbs since 1999, the 21 clicks in a mono/xc is not enough, but the 36 in a bulb is fine, anything else is over kill for me personally. I've gone very big in the last 10+ years, I weigh 14 stone and do big drops. I've never broke a single axle, rachets will go now & then, it's a free/cheap repair from hope, They're fine unless you're a real rough b*****d or you're into huge static gaps which wont help it, obv a pro2 (later model) would be best if you don't use a full cassette of gears, but don't listen to anyone saying bulbs are shit as they're idiots, Martyn ashton and alot of the big names used them for years, and before that it was the ti glide, which was a high end cross country hub.

Nowdays people use stupidly hard gears and everything's about static moves, so Yes a pro 2 would be a better bet, but to say a bulb is shit is just retarded.

    Ok. noted. Ta.

Martin Ashton and other big names used them for years...thats the concern....theyre many years old now and will be wearing out despite servicing. Older technology combined with less engagement points, less reliablity, a currently longer use-life so far and the fact that its already skipped and is going to fail again and more and more often, puts me off it.

It will hold me back and i'll never ride as hard or try to do things i want to try for fear of skipping. I want complete confidence in my componentry. I expect nothing less for the money we shell out for these items. I dont want one part holding back the potential of the rest of the build and also my own potential

  2. Thats the reason I'd never ever buy a carbon mountain bike frame. Only a racer if ever.

I was recently at the LBS and saw the display, cut-in-half carbon frame which shows how theyre formed etc.

There is only the thinnest alloy/steel sleeve which the bb sits in. The load is on the carbon, not that sleeve.

The carbon is also surprisingly thin.

If you have such a decent crack, paint or not, the inside has failed and forced the paint to crack.

Its an epic fail of the cannondale im afraid. Id throw the frame away before he gets impaled by it. Carbon is not a material you want sticking out of you!

I snapped my carbon fibre seat post. Its on youtube. If it wasnt for the polished outer layer, i'd have had a second butt hole made for me

  3. Boys.... how many of you have heard of a "Hope Mono" hub or otherwise known as "Hope Bulb hub"?

Apparently theyre an older series. Non-disk specific hub.

They arent a Pro 2 Trials. They have "3 pawls of engagement inside with around 52 slots in the hub shell" I was told.

Ive heard they "roll better/faster than a Pro2 Trials as the Pro 2 Trials slow you down something cruel."

Have you guys had any experience with the mono/bulb hub, and possibly even able to compare it to the Pro2 Trials?

The bike im looking to buy has a Hope mono/bulb rear hub and has slipped once.

Im so set on making sure the bike I buy (Inspired) has a Hope Pro 2 Trials as the set-standard rear hub so this atm is putting me off buying the bike. I want as many engagement points as possible within a Hope brand. That being the Hope Pro2 Trial. Im not interested in King or any other brand.

I spoke to another guy who said theyre absolutely useless and that they slip and the axles snap. He's not a heavy rider either at 12stone...

    Let me know your thoughts!

    Cheers

    :)

    Wes

  4. Tis a lovely lookin 'spired. Got an awesome front brake on it. i have a pair on my saracen and there awesome bags of power enough modulation and a nice solid lever feel. what does it ride like as im still tempted to get one.

Brother! Hows things? Yeah, I was telling Rich about that brake as I thought it was one Id been told about. Couldnt remember who told me though :P

Rich and I are getting close to sorting this deal out. My mate lives really close to Rich's gf in Japan and he's going to help me out with disassembling and boxing the bike up for me. Thats a real blessing!

We just need to get a 100% sorting of the postage price, method etc and we can go from there.

Love the new avatar mate lol. Bender always cracks me up. He makes the show :)

  5. I did. I would just like to know the amount of money we are talking about. A "fortune" could be anything.

But I didn't know that you were already talking business when I wrote my comment. Sorry. I didn't want to interfere.

Thats ok mate. Was just letting you know that it will be the cost of postage, plus taxes, import duties, air-in-the-box charges, staples, stickers, labels, you know, anything they can throw a charge on when it comes into the UK they always will.

You will need to pay the taxes/charges on the cost of the bike plus the postage. I had to do this when I imported a bike from the US. That was the biggest importing mistake ive ever made.

Cost me a fortune and I was not told about the import charges. I had to pay another 460pounds just to PICK the bike up! On top of the bike itself and on top of the postage cost.

We tried getting out of it in every way possible but they wouldnt have a bar of it. Bikes dont fly under the postal radar in the UK. Small items do, not ones like bikes though. Theyre simply too large.

I hopefully have a mate in Japan atm who is near the bike and may be able to help me out with either bringing it back or helping send it to me in Aus.

Im waiting to hear back from him and find out some costs and then need to see if its in my budget or if theres any large, hidden costs. It should theoretically be cheaper to send to Aus....however, everything works "in theory" ;)

  6. sweet!

I am interested. Could you PM me and tell me about the shipping costs?

    Cheers

Just a quick question....Did you read this entire thread?

Read the section he said here, quote:

"Posting the thing to the UK would cost a fortune though. Tax has to be paid on items over £35 now even though I bought the thing in the UK in the first place.

I recently posted a Rohloff chain device that I sold on ebay to the UK from Japan, and he ended up paying £30 on an item worth £55! Ridiculous. Imagine what this would be:( "

I dont think this bike would suit a UK buyer in its current location unfortunately...

Considering it will cost me 172pounds to send a bike to me here in Aus, from the UK....just in sending, not mentioning any import duties/charges etc, it will cost you more in the UK than that to get it from Japan.

  7. It's very complicated. You see my bike is in Japan at my girlfriend's apartment, but I'm here in the Uk. The reason being I went to Korea to renew my visa but got refused entry back into Japan as I had stayed for too long as a tourist this year (180 days max). Now I have to wait 5 months until I can return again:( I had to leave my bike and most of my belongings behind!

I'd be looking around £650 for it as it has a top spec such a chris king headset, middleburn rs7 isis with custom polished guard, skf 600 bottom bracket, thomson stem etc. Posting the thing to the UK would cost a fortune though. Tax has to be paid on items over £35 now even though I bought the thing in the UK in the first place.

I recently posted a Rohloff chain device that I sold on ebay to the UK from Japan, and he ended up paying £30 on an item worth £55! Ridiculous. Imagine what this would be:(

I've put it on here to show off. haha, and if I'm lucky someone might be visiting Japan soon and be able to buy and take it home with them as no Japanese person seems to want to buy it even though I have advertised it over there. They've never heard of Inspired.

Jump on msn. Will explain why when youre on there

  8. paypal problems, should be sorted soon hopefully, I hope the bike is still all good and fun for you? :)

Same thing happened to me Ali and I got no reply from him, no respect for the situation I was in with whether it was a "yes" or "no" for buying my bike. "Paypal issues" were the concern then with money and he should know exactly how paypal works with all we had to go through trying to make the process work.

Personally, i'd be concerned. Seems like a good kid, but screwed me over and wasted a lot of my time.

I was the one whom you've been chatting to on the phone at Tarty's. I had the deposit on the very last inspired frame in the country and gave that up for someone else to build and to give you boys at Tarty's a result with building a bike instead of waiting for me to come back from Europe. My travels have been ended early due to my mrs injuring her back and I now regret giving up the frame due to coming back early, the increase in price and lack of supply atm.

I never knew you had this bike and/or had it for sale?

I wouldve bought it and paid cash.

If it all goes to crap like it did for me with Ricardo, let me know as Im still looking for an Inspired before I head back to Australia. Also chasing a rear Hope Pro 2 trials hub to build a 26" wheel or a will buy a complete, already built, wheel.

How much was your bike worth? Can PM me

Im back in London on Wednesday for a couple of weeks before heading back to Aus for good so would be good to hear back from you if you know of any other boys selling their complete Inspired's.

    Thanks mate

    Wes

  9. Sup fellas,

As I'm sure we all know, the London riders are pretty sparse on this forum,

But basically i'm looking for at least a couple who live in London (or near by) to help me learn some street/urban trials. Hopefully getting a stock soon (If Paypal get their f'in act together) I have decent previous experience with bicycles, and other extreme sports. (Trials can be considered pretty extreme right?)

    I'll gladly meet riders from;

Surrey - Kingston, Richmond, Epsom, Guilford etc...

    Middlesex - Twickenham, Whitton etc...

and just about any place that Southern/SouthWest Trains and the tube lines will allow us to economically travel to.

PM me as well as posting with private contact details if anyone's interested :)

    Cheers!

You need a bike first to meet up for riding....

Mate, you need to reply to me and tell me whats going on with the sale. I need to know asap. Youve been on here tonight but ignored all my calls and texts trying to find out if you got the bank stuff sorted. I need to know if youre coming tomorrow, if youve got the money/bank issue sorted- anything. I need to hear from you. Im stressed as hell as is mate without you doing what the other people on here have done and just ignore me. Ive done the right thing by you and built the bike up, at more expense of my time, and now no reply?

Im not angry with you, I just need to know whats going on. Im so rediculously under pressure packing up both our lives and I dont need a bike sitting there without you getting back to me.

You gave me your word you wouldnt stuff me round, waste my time or shaft me. Im holding you to that out of trusting your word.

    Please reply now ok. Thanks

  10. yeh no sweat mate, send me an sms when ur free ill prob give you a diff landline to call. Hey you can get my trialtech riser bar if u want, and possibly my stem. Big loss of cash there in those hubs mate :(

Pm the prices of the other gear.

Grant suddenly wants 800 for this:

also has 2 or 3 spare mech hangers"

Ive been told hes really having a laugh on this so will be talking to him today about it all

This bike thing has been a nightmare mate

  11. Rear brake is a hs33 with tnn pads. Rear break is nuts with the tnn pads, best brake ive used and there isnt even a grind on my rims! Ive also put a white mcneil seat on since (might go back to my black one) and changed the headset and front brake to same but hope green ones....cost me no diff in the end :)

Im sorry for Sethguns profile comment....its not true. We do infact each own a Koala. Its how you prove your Australian Identity. You get pulled over by the cops and asked for I.D *whips out his Koala*- simple. Show them your Koala and you then, are clearly an Aussie and free to go.

I put my Koala in my kangaroos pouch to bounce around the backyard....all 5000 Hectars of it. Gets a bit risky near the crocodile pond though :S

Oh well, plenty more where they came from.

Mate, Im trying to build a spec. You at home tonight? Need to give you a bell. I only have 3 days left :S

  12. I was implying he's probably too light and small to be riding stock, not too big.

    Ahh gotcha

    Like Ryan Leech says here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dYRbCR9BqA...feature=related

"You weigh more than your bike does, so get your body moving, punch the drive train and the bike will follow"

Also, the kid here at 39 sec doesnt look big, he looks quite small and young

The same kid is here at 1.32 and he looks even smaller and younger in this vid. He's wearing the same threads as in the previous video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRLi1U61u4g...feature=related

So I disagree that he wont be able to ride a stock

  13. If I was 58kg I wouldn't want to be riding a stock. I'm 64kg and I ride a short mod, and it has nothing to do with height, as I'm 6'1".

There are far heavier riders riding all different styles of stock frames and setups.

64kg is nothing to be concerned about.

Theres a 200pound dude on here snapping things. Fair enough if youre landing hard, big gaps etc etc.

Everything has its limits, but being 64kg wont be snapping frames unless youre doing huge things on it.

He's beginning as he keeps saying. Its a perfect bike for him and wont give him any troubles or snap/crack
