They're not the same, well technically they're not anyways.
Freerunning is just doing things that look cool e.g. front flipping over/off a wall to get past it.
Parkour is where you use the most efficient method of getting over/past the obstacle.
In the freerunning/parkour community, saying the two are the same is basically like saying TGS and street are the same.
no their are actually quite different.
in free running you more flips etc and a free run is were you have to get from A to B in the most efective a fun way possible
parkour is where you finds spots and look for lines where there are good cats, grabs , gaps drop off's etc
if you are keen on both disiplines then you can freerun between parkour spots
Some people call TGS street.
You know there are parkour competitons?
From what I've seen it was just some different sized blocks and the guys did different things over them.
I would've thought to make a competition out of parkour, you'd need to take a city, and time the participants from A to B, and they'd have to use their imagination to make the most efficient way through the city. Makes more sense than what I've seen on youtube.
that would be a freerunning not parkour but a good idea all the same
does anyone have any ideas for a play park
i am thinking of having a ground section with big concrete blocks for cats gaps monkey vaults etc and then an aerial section made up of scafolding and then some parts combining the two
also is anyone any good at drawing this kind of thing out in a digital form as a would like to present it well in my application for funding
is their not scotish people interested in joining my club
-
What does one of these look like?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyYINP9oCc8 something like the last section in this vid only with rails and more concrete blocks and shiz like that
-

I know how to do pretty much build anything on my trials bike apart from how to build a wheel. I don't really have any interest in learning either. That's what Tartybikes is for.
do you shit money or something if so i would like 2 clean your toilet

creepys it is then

A 'wheel true' is just the name for straightening a wheel. That's known as 'trueing' the wheel, so a 'wheel true' service is... well... you get the point.
A spoke key is the tool that sits on the flat sections of the nipples and allows you to turn the spokes. They can put a lot more power into the nipple than just using a screwdriver, which won't be able to get you up to the correct tension in most cases. If you're going to build it yourself, you'll need one.
Spokes, when they've been in a wheel, will have a slight kink where they come out of the hub and cross some spokes. They will straighten slightly when you get them under the proper tension, but if you're re-building a different wheel they may well be the wrong length. They'll also usually work out as being slightly weaker due to the way spokes work harden.
ok thanks will get a hold of a spoke key and give it a go

ok i have a couple of tyre questions for the wheel boffins
creepy crawler or echo
i am looking to upgrade a few parts on y onza rip 09
would i be better using a new 19" rear rim or just leave it at the 20"

Pro Tip: If you don't want to build your own wheel, you can often just lace it up then get a bit of tension on it, then take it to a bikeshop to true it. It'll almost always be significantly less £'s to get it trued than built from scratch, so if you don't want to build your own, you can still save a bit of £'s.
good tip i am going to head over to the wiki just now and have a looksy see what i can do later on my dad says that we can have a crack at it together
couple of questions:
whats a wheel true
do i need one?
whats a spoke key?
do i need one ?
can i just unsrew the spokes with a flathead?
the few i have taken a few spokes out and they seem abit bent will they striaghten up when i tighten it back up after re-building?

bloody good topic and very interesting to its amazing how much the forum has improved in the last few years !

Ooh, I wouldn't do that... I hear they used to employ some waster called Danny something.
oh christ i heard about him
is that not the guy jumps out of trees or something
-
i built one and nailed it all together then relised as i improved that i had wasted my time!
because i had built it in a kind of straight line so when i improved that was it, it was to easy for me so i knocked it down.
my advice is that get a shit load of palets in different sizes of piles ect logs , railway sleepers, concrete blocks/ pipes
any loose items that have a low centre of gravity
hope i helped
