Great. Glad there's still riders in Bristol. just getting back on a bike. Haven't ridden for years. Where did u ride? castle park, The basin?
-
Just heard of today's ride
in Bristol. is this a regular thing?
-
are pro2 trials singlespeed? I'm running some gears - would consider going single though.
or are pro2 trials just a bit tougher?
-
thanks matthew too
opinions on hope big uns hubs and halo SAS for trials? am scouring ebay
-
Either keep the xcs or get a pro2t. No point going middle ground with the bulb really. Pro2ts are a much better hub (stronger axle, better bolts, better bearings aside from twice the engagement) so if you can get one on the rear I'd recommend it. Keep the xc front though.
D521s hold grinds really well
Great useful answer - cheers mate!!
-
Cheers folks. I've got some Hope XC hubs already. So I could keep them but I'd get better engagement with Bulbs or Pro2's eh?
D521's sound like the way fwd.
Do people grind them?

Anyone recommend wheels for Ashton, Cannondale (the volvo blue one)
D521/ Hope bulbs good? I want to keep weight down and I guess I can't go too wide with this frame.
Any ideas?
-
Just bought a Cannondale Ashton with rack mounts on it already!! Reckon that'll do it.
Thanks for your help folks.
-
Dunno what sort of racks your thinking, but you could get one of the seatpost mounted ones and pop a we plastic plug in saddle in yer bag then swap once you are where you wanna be.
Got the rack - it's a blackburn that my child seat is deisgned to fit. I'm a trials daddy!
Maybe something like an Identiti frame? I've always fancied building up a dr Jekyll!
I like the idea but since it hasn't got rack mounts already, I'd need to braze some on, but yee can't braze aluminium.
Thanks for the suggestion.

There is always loads of dmr frames for sale on eBay etc dunno about riding trials on one seen a few photos of them built like that. If I was you I'd be looking at jeff lenosky's bikes for inspiration.
Ah yes cheers Jambo - was looking at DMR sidekicks / trailstar. Ideally if there was somethin that already had the right braze-ons but I guess that's asking alot.
Back int' day there wasn't really such thing as a 26" trials bike. A small dual slalom frame was the best it got. You can do trials (albeit with a bit more difficulty than on modern bikes) on pretty much anything. I started on a 19" rockhopper
My mate had an azonic ds1, seemed to serve him well. Any small frame, with preferably shortish chainstays and a highish bottom bracket should be alright.
Cheers tomturd (do you have a low opinion of yourself?)
I was thinkin about a trusty rockhopper too - I've had a steel one before but that was before I got into trials. Don't know anything about Azonics. will look into it - thanks
-
You probably wanting to be looking at Marino frames (custom steel frames)
Thanks Lawrence but I was looking for something fairly cheap so I wouldn't worry so much about locking it up in town. Pretty cool bikes they make there by the looks of things.

I going to build a multi-purpose second bike.
It needs to have rack mounts to carry camping gear and my 2 year old boy, take magura's on the rear and be strong so I can have a little trials sesh when out cross-country riding.
I'm guessing it to be no more than a 16" frame and preferably made of steel.
Does anyone have any ideas of what frame could work for me?
I was thinking of something like an oldish small-framed steel Specialised Rockhopper. There must be stronger / more durable bikes that have rack mounts though?
Any help appreciated

Good progress Tom - that new area where you're riding down the steps in your other youtube vid is great isn't it?

About to order Neon fork + Rubber Queen rear 2.2 tyre as they're light.
Am I going to regret this and snap the forks (like just have because 26") and get constant pinch punctures? (running a heavy duty DH tube.)

I'm out sunday late morn arond by the create centre late. Nige

Going to be a little warmer and sunny tomorrow.

cheers man
do bristol buses let you take bikes on board?
I'm afraid not Ian. But, I guess it's not too far from St Andrew's to town just a plod home up Glou Rd.
'Hope to see you tomo night (might just become friday day!)
-
Ok mate - we could take your cam down Vicky Park and film that trick you were talking about t'other day.
Heard a quote on the radio which I liked: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting something different to happen".
'Hope to see you fri. Nigegg

Have got hold of a leech frame. Don't suppose yanyone knows if Duke forks can be modified down to 40mm travel to get the geo right? BB looks like it's going to be a bit low with trialtrch forks.
