  1. Ciao TF..

Vote for my ex-colleague/flatmatemate Thomas Mylonas to become Europe's No1. Young entrepreneur. Thomas started his internship at Fila with me 3 years ago. Now he has established his own Design company ('Dotkite') & is currently nominated in the top 5 young entrepreneurs in Europe (he's down to the last 5).

    Good luck to him.

Please vote to give us a hand.

  2. Ok,

Currently I'm having problems with heartburn whilst riding as I soon run out of steam feeling as if I have pressure building under my ribcage & acid bubbling up my throat - it got me to thinking...How good for you is trials?

I have asthma, and only ride trials...I feel great, strong & from the outside I look toned & muscular; but inside I feel sh*t. The anaerobic exercise it provides means my lungs are weaker than they were five years ago, and even though I ride quite often, my stamina levels are lower. This could be in part to the fact that I have added extra muscle & another 8 kilos in the last 3 years. But the fact remains, no matter, how hard, or long I ride...my stamina never improves as I find trials provides no form of aerobic exercise atall - quick bursts of energy only. Even if I ride places - sometimes here in Italy I have to ride 15-20km to get to any kind of good riding spot (as I don't have a car here), but I never reach a great enough speed/momentum to perform a consistent workout...just short bursts of energy until my legs are spinning faster than the freewheel can engage.

I played football for the first time in 5 years last week, only 5-a-side...everyone was saying "you'll be as fit as a flee, always on that bike", but in reality I was dead after 5 minutes. I had the strength, just not the rest to back it up. It's like my body has become just too specialised..

    What do you guys think..?

  3. Cheers for the advice, the video was in many ways my first comparison between riding 20" to 26".

I know I wasn't born for trials like some people seem to be, so I don't find learning/riding as natural as some, and I'm not sure if I really have a style - I'd like to though.

With regards to the vid, as I said earlier, I was expecting to ride a few different locations so I could vary the techniques/obstacles a little more as trials spots here are few & far between in the locality & I don't drive (public transport is a joke as I 'live out in the sticks'...lol). It's been sunny for two weeks & the one day I travelled to the nearest city by taxi, sods law it started leathering it down. >_<

  4. Ciao Tf

Here's my new latest video from Italy - Switching between 20" & 26" is not as easy as I thought, but then again I've only been ot on my Czar about 10 times so far, so here goes.

Originally I was planning more gaps etc but the weather conspired against me yesterday so..

Let s know what you guys & girls think.

  5. Here's my new Czar, cheers to the guys at Tartybikes..

I've just rode it for the first time, my God it's weird after riding a mod for three years..I don't even know if I can hop the damn thing yet as it's lashing it down outside...lol

Only one thing though, sometimes the eno free wheel sounds like its skipping sometimes when I put the power on, but I think that could also be the chain tensioner as I think it's missing a bolt at the back (prob fell out on my way home), the chain seems a bit slack..any suggestions tf?

And this is the tensioner, missing a bolt I think.

  6. Ey-up..

Alright, I've tried to post a comment on your you-tube vid twice, but everytime it never adds it..

Good stuff, you have a neat bag of tricks, I only with mine were as diverse as yours as I struggle to find the time/places to ride at the monemt as I work & live in the arse end of nowhere - plus I'm old & set in my ways..

Ah well, keep on riding & get another video up...lol

See if you can get out with the wtuk crew, sexymike & davetrials...good lads.

  7. Well, not what happened to me, but my trials mate at uni (Coventry).

Apparently he was out riding when a guy nicked his bike (I'm imagining he wasn't on it at the time), the guy legged it & managed to jump in a cab with the bike - running after the cab as it drove away, my mate was gutted; until it got stuck in traffic. He managed to get the bike back, but only after the guy in the cab actually realised that it was infact his & the twat sat in the back had nicked it..the little f**ker managed to get away n'all.

I just used to get the usual gang of tits trying to start a fight. A couple of weeks before I moved to Italy, I was riding past some lad one friday night on my way home..at first he seemed fine as he moved well out of the way so I could continue over the path on the bridge, then the little gimp tried to shove me in the road..I hadn't reached his two mates at this point, who were just coming over the top of the hill.."f*ckin hit that lad on the bike*. What do you do..put down the bike so they can either nick it, or fight you & then nick it...I couldn't ride away (It's a mod). So I just got off & walked towards the little shites (I was 22 & at 17, these little bastards are my size). After taking pot shots at me as I walked along, punching & kicking, the littlest one shouting "I'm gonna cut you, I'm gonna cut you" for the minute he walked alongside me; by which time the other guy had ran back up the bridge to join in - I lost my rag, "f*cking cut me then" & went for them which worked..but because I turned back to get my bike, they started again..the kick in the side of my ribs was the only thing that hurt - it makes me laugh how people just drive buy, watch & do nothing (it was the same the other year when I got my head kicked in after coming out of a pub, by ten to fifteen 16-18 year olds, half of which were girls - that time I was fortunate I spent the nite in hospital & no short term memory.. the next week they slashed a guy's face & his wife's hand as she tried to stop them & pistol-whiped some guy). With 200m until the nearest road, I made a run for it & managed to outrun them over the first 20 metres, which was enough for the lazy twats. Turns out the'd also threatened another girl earlier at knifepoint. Don't miss it one bit. Here I just get the local kids watching me riding.

Now, to be honest I like a fair fight - but if it's 3-1 with weapons, I'm gonna fight dirty too so I spent the last week or two riding with a foot long spanner in my shin-pad..I'm just unhappy I never got to use it.

  8. Two fingers - just can't get away from it, no matter how well my wheel locks, it always slips slightly if I do a high energy move with less than two fingers.

I feel I've always been in somewhat of a catch-22 situation, if I use two fingers I can gap etc, but it probably restricts the power/control I have when hopping up stuff - but if I move to 1 finger, I may have more control eventually, but it'll take time to build up enough strength/co-ordination..which will reduce my confidence in my brake in the meantime.

1 finger on both, ive seen people break magura's by using 2 fingers

Yeah, been there..on a 1-foot hop up - it was embarassing as it was hardly a move atall.

  9. I just think...nah, I can't do that (which is the truth with most things) - if I think it's within my capability I set myself up, still with doubt in mind...then usually I just think, 'fu*k it' and jump...

I make excuses to myself all the time, most of the time when something just doesn't feel right, having an off balance day/I'd rather practice something else - but sometimes I suprise myself as I have no doubt/fear atall..

It usually just depends upon how I'm feeling in myself that day, before I even ride trials, that determines my ability/attitude towards riding.

  10. I'm just quite happy, so I thought I'd let you guys of TF know that I start as a designer at Dainese in Italy after Christmas - so, so long to Fila (it's been too long). I'm not sure exactly what products i'll be focusing on as I think they're just going to let me start off on a few things to figure out where I'd best fit; but boy, I better brush up pronto on my Italian - most people in Fila speak English on some level...in Dainese, er...no..

Although I think I'm gonna find my trials riding ability is going to get even worse as this place is really out in the sticks..2000 people in the town, and it's too quiet/hard to find trials spots where i live now with a population of 25,000 - agh.

  11. dude,

nice vid mate, getting good, got a tip for you, when you go up the wall from having the wheel resting on top, try and get more sideways (kicking foot on the outsisde) it will make it easier for you and will look smoother

    Ben

Cheers, I have tried it on an angle, & it is a lot easier to get ontop...but I found for it difficult gapping from the wheelswap as I always end up on an angle on top of the wall...I might try concentrating on twisting in the air - plus, I just cant get any kind of 'pedal punch' (as Ryan leech calls it) in as I jump...I just find my lead pedal bashes the wall..

I kind of jump with both brakes locked before, during & after the jump - to wheel swap correctly, do I just have brakes locked when balancing & let off just as I jump up?

I have so many bad habits...just watch the underneath view (at 0:49 sec), I have the front brake on while hoping & still use 2 fingers on the back brake - I just can't help it..

  12. Ciao TF

Checkout my new video at -

Okay, it's my second video & second attempt at editing - so constructive criticism is appreciated. I have intailly tried to match my riding style (or lack of it) to the music, trying to match the tyre landing etc with the beat..

In terms of the riding, my favourite bit in the video is the 270 degree spin to gap (2:22 sec into the video), I was quite gutted though, I nailed it with only 2 correction hops on the second time I did it...but forgot to put the camera on. So the version in the vid is after I had tried another 20 minutes to replicate the same thing - too many correction hops, but I think it fits well with the music...

    Hope you enjoy

  13. I bought my 221-ti (2005) second hand - I didn't realise at the time that there was a problem with the geo & a profile hub, so suprize, suprize..there's a crack in the chainstay. But it's been like that for as far as I can remember & I'm not a beast at riding, a tad heavy handed sometimes yet it's still holding up nicely.
