  2. That isn't the case. We've had complaints made about us both from other trials shops and trials manufacturers for selling things too cheaply. For example, one international trials shop wanted us to sell the Echo Lite, Trial and Pure full bikes for well over £1k (I can't remember the exact price they mentioned as it was a while ago). As a result, we're pretty much tied to selling everything for the manufacturer's RRP. That isn't always the case though - there's a particularly popular product we sell that we have to charge way less than the RRP is because it's doubtful anyone would want to pay that much.

There are plenty of reasons that other overseas companies can charge less than us for stuff - prices here instantly going to be higher thanks to a 20% VAT rate. For a frame, that's a reasonable chunk of money. Other shops who aren't using the same sorts of shipping systems as us can also declare things as a gift and basically lie on customs documents so you don't have to pay any duty or anything like that. That's all well and good for the time being, but once their business increases to where they're using actual accounts with firms it becomes impossible to do that. With - for example - the way our system works with sending stuff abroad using FedEx, we couldn't do it even if we wanted to.

For a lot of the frames we sell, I doubt that another UK-based shop would be able to sell them for much less and make any sort of profit. Just because you can buy one frame from some guy in China for £X amount doesn't mean a shop can, especially if they're buying in a reasonable quantity of them. Having to make enough on frame sales to cover the original cost price of the frame, the cost of transporting it from wherever it's being sold to your own shop and the cost of duty on top of that (to put it into perspective, the costs for delivery and customs on one of our Echo orders last year was well over £10,000), the cost of having to have them stored somewhere (assuming it's a legitimate business and not just a half-arsed Facebook/"Out-of-my-bedroom" 'business') and all the other associated costs of having premises - not to mention (again) the VAT they'd have to charge. If stuff arrives damaged or un-sellable from a manufacturer that's something else that also needs to be factored in, plus any other 'issues' along those lines. Basically - you can't associate the prices involved in one-off transactions with a random person half-way across the world with the way that pricing and costs work for a shop.

fair point but neon/yabaa/echo mainly must be charging you guys way over the top even after VAT simply because of its popularity here i imagine which does explain some prices but i understand from what you have said that it would be the same for any uk legit uk dealer and renders my point useless haha

  3. A) nice bump

    B) the thing with Tarty is, everything's 100% legit and UK based with real strong ties to every company they stock. If you had a warranty issue, do you really wanna be sending frames back across europe? I'd go for the Tarts every time just for the service and expertise they have, you really can't do better.

Yeah i would as i get most frames in 2-3 days and i also have great communication with the people from various countries so would be fine sending products back but trials warranties are pretty mute. Anyway that wasn't my point it was that if they can sell frames £100 cheaper another uk distributor could sell them for £50 cheaper and still make a profit (Y)

  4. i'd hardly call tarty cheap, they have a monopoly on the uk market so can charge whatever they want, you can get pretty much every frame on their site upto £100 cheaper even with import cost so if SJS stock pretty much the same but charge a couple of quid less they can still make really good business

  5. Thanks mate, I'm very fussy and took me a while going through every pashley build I could find but didn't see one I liked. Bugging me the seat though it's too dark a blue I think. May have to go black selle Italia I think, the slr xp maybe. Will take some better pics when it's complete with the slr. But I just want ride it :)

it looks fine your gonna be sitting on it anyway, when you get to your riding spot you'll probably be taking it out and putting a little plastic jobbie in anyway well that's what id do

  6. After looking through hundreds of Tarty's products and reading the questions people have asked, I have always felt a bit sorry for Mark and Adam who have to try to answer these people. I do not want to offend anyone, and after all, Tartybikes is an international store with a lot of interest from foreign riders who will often use translation sites to interact with other internet users but this is not were my problem lies. I can't understand how someone capable of speaking good english will address the Tarty guys in such a way and can ask a question to these guys without giving a damn how to spell/ punctuate it.

Furthermore, I will often see product pages where the options will be a variety of colours, for example red, black and white to which someone will ask if they can get the said product in green! That sort of thing always makes me laugh :giggle:

Anyway, I just wanted to see if we could find some of the funniest questions on the site and post them. I will get the ball rolling with these three, taken from the 'Echo Lite Dual Disc' page here: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/20_inch_trials_bikes/echo_lite_dual_disc/c10p11565.html

Sorry if I am an A-hole

you try and order a bike to your requirements on say a japanese site, even with google translate it's still not 100% accurate so it can only be the same for them

as for the first guy i assume he wants to know if he can switch a certain part for somethingelse and Adam clearly understood him

  7. I am your saviour! I ran the exact same setup (TR on a Simple) and have just replaced my frame today, what you need is the spacers on the axle machined down by 3mm to allow the axle to accept some snailcams. I'd be more than happy to swap you my milled down spacers for your standard ones?

Also the thing with the wheel not sitting straight when the bolts are tightened up are down to the fact the dropouts aren't quite in line, I had the same problem but sorted it easy enough. All you have to do is adjust the driveside snailcam to tension the chain and nip the bolt up, then (this sounds like a pain in the arse but I promise you it isn't!) you'll probably have to push the wheel into the frame to square it up, set the non driveside cam into the position required and tighten that side up. I ran mine all last year like that and only really had to adjust it once or twice when I changed the chain.

    Hope this helps!

that would be great foxy cheers, i would probably balls it up somehow trying myself. do you have to have a pic of your old setup i can copy? with reference to the dropout alignment is that a design flaw or supposed to be like that? seems an odd design

  8. a site no-one has mentioned which along with trials-kings.co.uk was the best, trials-works.co.uk they had an amazing how-to video section and quality vids, if anyone still has them the pre zoo sponosorship ones could you upload them for me please i would love to have a look back at those

  9. having had my paypal account hacked and address changed myself it certainly sounds like this guy is spending the money of someone who hasnt got a clue it's even going on. i would report it to ebay and paypal and wait for them to check whats happening

sounds like an obvious swiss bank account fraud scheme to me

  10. Im pretty sure Ive got an old quicksilver maggie lever (96-98 vintage I believe) that has cracked around the pivot bolt, as far as I know the internals are all present and correct. You can have it for postage costs :)

IIRC all there is in the old hs33 maggies is the piston, an o-ring, a lip seal and the return spring.

edit: Just noticed the red arrow on your photo, I think that's just a rubber boot to keep crap out and can be left off. Probably getting the wrong end of the stick though :D

cheers mate, when you get the chance can you take it to bits and see whats actually in there? i dont mind giving you a few quid i dont expect it for nothing

  11. Got my hands on a NOS set of 04 mags but the front needs assembling and looking at the rear theres something in the lever body that's left hollow on the front and looking at the spare parts manual theres no mention of it or product part number

does anyone know what i'm referring too? pretty sure it's simple and i'm just not seeing it lol
