I'm paying $65 now and it's going up to $75. 100mbit. It's solid service, but they have a bunch of tiers lower than this for less money, but they're for new customers only. If I cancel and come back a month later, I have access to these cheaper tiers, but I have no other means of getting internet for that month, so as they upgrade their tiers, and give me faster internet, they charge me more and more.

Could you not just cancel it in your name and sign up again as a new customer in your wife's name?

  2. If you want to be a super cheapskate then have a look at Aldi Ferrex gear. It comes with a 3 year warranty and they are pretty good at replacing stuff from my experience.

You can't really go too far wrong with the Ryobi stuff though and as Ali says they have hundreds of tools (even lawnmowers etc) that use the same battery if you end up buying something else.

    Why is it 200% ?

    Long Term Empty Property Premium

An additional amount of Council Tax (a Premium) is charged when a property has been empty and unfurnished for two years or more, regardless of any change in ownership.

The Government introduced an amendment to the legislation in November 2018 – The Rating (Property in Common Occupation) and Council Tax (Empty Dwellings) Act 2018, which allows councils to further increase the Council Tax premium on long term empty unfurnished properties.

For properties that have been unoccupied and unfurnished for more than two years, a premium of 100% will be applied. This means that 200% Council Tax is payable for such properties.

For properties that have been unoccupied and unfurnished for more than 5 years, a premium of 200% will be applied. This will mean that 300% Council Tax is payable for such properties.

To ensure the Council Tax is correct, please inform the Council Tax office when your property is either, sold or let providing full details of the new tenants or owner.

  4. Since Dave's having a rant I feel like I should have one myself about council tax.

I bought my house in November 2019 and registered for Council tax. I got a letter saying I'd get 6 months free because I was doing a major refurb. 2 months later I get a letter saying the rules have changed and I had to pay 100% council tax and wouldn't get any relief. Now I've had the house for over 2 years and still haven't finished the work so my council tax bill is going to be 200% I just don't see how any of that is fair? I wanted the house to be finished within 12 months but due to many many factors it just hasn't been possible. I've been doing most of the work by myself, the price of materials has gone through the roof, we've had a world wide pandemic that slightly impacted things (understatement) I just don't see why I should have to pay double the council tax for a house I can't live in. It's not like it benefits me in anyway for it to unoccupied.

I emailed asking for some sort of help and I might have told them that I'm living there by myself to get a 25% rates reduction while I get the place finished. They now want me to send energy bills showing that I'm living there. There must be a way around this but I'm just too pissed off with it all to think straight and I can't seem to be able to speak to a person that has a reasonable attitude and will help me out.

  5. Usually you need a good solid base. Depends on what the ground is made from but a general rule of thumb is to have 100mm-150mm of crush and run/MOT/Hardcore give that a good whacking down then whatever surface you are having on top of that. If you're planning on just buying bags of stones avoid getting small bags from a builders merchant. You're best best is a couple of ton bags or you can and get it dropped off from the back of a wagon loose ( there might be a minimum order usually around 7-15 ton. It will save you a fortune though.

I ain't no expert though. That's just my advice. If I understand you correctly.

  6. I found this out recently while looking for a washing machine and dryer. There's a UK company called EBac that are trying to resolve this issue by selling all the spare parts to their machines. The problem is they are shite and what I've read the delivery company (DX) are a huge part of the problem.

This is just another case of manufactures building in obsolescence so you have to buy a new one every few years. I personally think this is a big issue that should be sorted to save the environment.

Not a buying but an insulation related question.

My girlfriend's living room has proven to be fairly cool in winter - she knew the flat (top floor) couldn't be heated very well with one little gas heating in the hall (no radiators leading anywhere or anything else!) when she moved in, but with the living room getting rapidly colder towards one corner, whilst some parts of the room and the others are acceptable(-ish) at 18/19°C, I thought I'd take a  closer look at it.
One side of the dining table is 18° whilst the other end of it barely reaches 17°. There's a very slightly, cool draught that I followed to a little  built in cupboard in a corner. I found this to be a pretty efficient wine cooler.. At 11°C! I'm assuming that there's a completely hollow space separating the back wall of the cupboard from the roof. (inaccessible)

Next time round I'll check if there's a crack inside that cupboard leading out, or if the whole rear wall is that cool. My bets are on the latter though, so I was wondering if there's anything that we could place inside the cupboard to insulate it a tiny bit? Everything is wood so it should be relatively easy to attach things to.
I have however not once thought about insulation before and have no clue whatsoever. Plus there's nothing we're allowed to change permanently since it's rented and the owner is fussy. If there's a non messy solution it'd be a big plus!

I thought being able to sit on the couch without blankets, or at least one less, in February would be a nice goal to aim for!

You've got to be very careful how you insulate things because you can create cold spots where moisture will condensate and you'll get damp. From what you've explained I'd suggest cutting some PIR (cellotex/kingspan/ecotherm etc) insulation and fitting it into the cupboard.

Is Planet X run by a guy called Boris?

Hope you get your bike soon dude!

That's more of an Elon Musk tactic. I always wonder how many people paid the $100 fully refundable deposit for a Cyber truck that will never exist.

  9. The government doesn't lie.

    The media doesn't lie.

Science is always 100% correct and doesn't change.

If you don't agree with something then you are a tinfoil hat wearing flat earther.

COVID-19 came from someone eating a bat in Wuhan not far from a Level 4 Bio Lab that studies the Corona viruses.

No one is making a profit from the vaccine.

    Jeffery Epstine killed himself.

I find it interesting If you believe any of the above statements.

  10. The wires are doubled up because you loop from one socked to the other and back to the board for a "ring main" most houses have the sockets in a loop. People are starting to do radial sockets with thicker cable now.

I recently found out the reason we use ring mains is because there was a shortage of copper during the war.

Looking at those wires I'd 100% say the house needs a rewire to bring it up to modern standards.

I'm sure it will all work and be fine but its definitely due an overhaul.

  11. Would it be easier to do two spokes at once? (From the rim through the hub then back out the hub to the rim again) I know this might mess tensioning up etc (Could possible sort that with a couple of knots at the hub?) but it might make it easier?

I'm now entirely bored of the whole thing. I'm double jabbed but being fit and healthy am not that fussed about being given any kind of booster or annual jab or whatever. We're now being asked to wear masks again in all common spaces in uni buildings and students are expected to wear masks in all lectures and labs.

    This.

I’ve spent 18months or so in pretty dire working conditions whilst a good percentage of people weren’t giving a shit, or pissing about telling me it’s soooo hard being on furlough, and going abroad on holiday. Now we are back to “guidelines” and highest cases on the globe, and I’m not so inclined to give two shits either. The person most at risk in my family died this year so I guess incredibly selfishly, I don’t have to care that much. I’ll have whatever jab, and do whatever is mandatory, but optional? No.

I feel the same way. I've had my jabs. Didn't feel too great after them to be honest. Had a bit of chest pain but everything seems back to normal now for me.

I'm not interested in Booster Jabs. I just wanted to get the basic 2 jabs and forget about it.

I've said it before about getting the flu jab. I don't get that every year so I can't really see why I should get a Covid Jab. Especially when I had the full fat version and other than feeling pretty tired it wasn't too bad.

  13. 1:10 in I thought you were going round the corner for a second. I wouldn't put that past your abilities.

Also it wouldn't be a Flipp video without seeing you eat absolute shit at least once on a bail.

    Great video really enjoyed it!
