  1. They're pretty good if you don't want extreme geometry. The length of the stem realy changes the way the bike rides. I've just changed to a high stem with riser bars and it's much better on the back wheel. The weight is about 10kg at a guess, my build is pretty lightweight, I don't know how much the frame weighs, I would guess at around 1.9kg.

  2. Yeah, I have lost touch with Rockman now, but I still appear to be on the site. Working for M.A.D. was too good an opportunity to pass up on, so that's why I'm riding a Phase!

  3. Yeah definitely, well I've not been home that much in the last few years! But I finish uni soon, so I'll be moving back in a month or so. It's good to see some dedicated riders in my area, I always end up riding on my own at home!

And what's Robbie riding these days?

  4. I'd really like to have a look through these, but please, sort out the best ones so I don't have to go through 100 crap pics first! The riding looks good, but please take this constructively! Also, this is just my opinion, but that fisheye is way overkill!

  5. You wanna see Dave Kerrs' shins, they look like they have been attacked by a Velociraptor!

I would hazard that shin scars are proportional to skill.

Useless riders (such as myself) don't have much scaring because we don't push ourselves and therefore f**k up less often.

Haha, you're probably not wrong. On the downside, you do have to change the bedsheets more often when they get covered in blood!

  6. I beg to differ! He always seems to be getting fresh ones. I'd blame it on the pedals; I hate getting on a bike with worn out pedals, they give you very little confidence. Touch wood, I rarely get any these days, seem to get more knock around my ankles from the brake pistons.

  7. Good topic! I was asking myself the very same question last week. I was thinking along the lines of a Planet-X JackFlash, as I've seen a few go cheap on ebay, anyne got any experience of this frame?

If i remember correctly Orange Zeros and P-X Zebedis used to have problems with the chainstays cracking. It would be nice to have a bike that you could blast round the woods on then stop to do some trials. Maybe evern with a drop post if you have the money. A rear disk mount would be nice if you're caning it through the mud and still want a back brake that works when you come across the rocks. Don't think a 160mm would be powerful enough though. There's still a gap in the market for such a thing, but it's certainly a niche! The custom frame builder could be a good idea.

I'd love to see trials competitions that involve riding a trials adapted mountain bike (32T with bash guard and 9 gears on the back, bring back those oldskool mid-chainstay chain tensioners!). Basically like a cross country course with the odd big obstacle thrown in your path with time penalties if you fall off or put your feet down.

    I'm on it!

  8. I run a monty 231Kamel stem on my Phase 1.1 with 10mm of stackers which makes it really quite high. It now rides so much better than when I had a lower Hope stem but with 20mm of stackers. Gaps and up to fronts are now so much easier, as are pedal hops. I won't be going back to the lower stem!

  9. Yeah that looks quite reasonable given it is a pretty large step. Here's one of mine from 2009, go to 2:51 for it, not sure how high it is, probably around the 60" mark. Did it using a 1" piece of wood as you will see. Wish I could still go that high!!
