  1. i just checked it and it looks like glue has melted and run on to other parts of the motherboard

    Ouch!

Get some "Arctic Silver 5" on the CPU/heatsink contact. The glue you get with cheap OEM computers is nasty..... and does exactly what has happened if you're not too careful....

  2. There would also be a lot more people that can't use their computer because Linux IS more confusing.  Way more.  Also if one of the Linux variants became the dominant platform, virus/spyware creators would just target that operating system.  I find it hilarious that you think just because the OS is linux based its instantly 100% secure and bug free!

Im not saying it's 100% secure - no OS is. It is far *more* secure than Windows. Bugs are ironed out quicker in Linux than Windows - thats a common known fact - due to the sheer quantity/quality of developers involved in the projects.

OpenBSD - only had ONE (yes ONE) hacked server in the entire history of the OS - and that's with the DEFAULT install...... enough said.

Linux isn't confusing... have you tried the latest Mandrake or Suse?

It is only a problem sometimes, becuase people choose the wrong distribution to learn on - picking Slackware instead of Mandrake, etc. People have problems with drivers, due to the lack of company support...

    Why is there little support?

    Because there is little demand.

    Why is there little demand?

Because people find it easier to install hardware on Windows.

    Catch 22.

More and more companies are developing drivers and software for Linux/*BSD/Solaris, which is great - I am all for it. For example, ATi's graphics card driver used to be impossible to install, without reading for 10hrs.... now it has simple, included instructions - which makes it painless....99% of the time.

Applications like OpenOffice.org has attracted more people too, to alternative OS's.

  3. I know how it works, trust.  I dont back down on the fact that in this day and age people need to get educated on such basics - and if they dont, they deserve to learn that the  hard way.  With a little bit of basic computer education a lot of spyware and virii wouldnt be a problem because the user would see how obvious it is.

It's not just the lack of education of people - insecure software is also 50% of the problem. If more people used an alternative OS to Microsoft Windows.

If people don't know about the security - probably becuase they don't really care about their computers - then it is the responsibility of the retailer to install/configure the software for them - e.g. install Anti-Virus (which works..... i.e. not cheap shit); spyware removal tools, all patches released..... and automatically set them up for later releases.

If more people used Macs, Linux, *BSD, Solaris, etc then there would be MUCH less problem with Viri.

    50% people.

    50% buggy software.

  4. Try and push as hard as possible for a Switch Card - which is WAAAAAY better than Solo (which sucks...)

I got Switch @ 16yrs at Halifax :)) Also got online banking too, when it first came out :))

  5. I never said anyone was thick.  I just said they're an idiot...as in lack of common sense terms... if someone offers you something bizarre that doesnt fit the conversation at all, you should be aware enough to ask them what it is.

But if it has the name of LOL (i.e. Laugh Out Loud) you would think it was something funny - hence the reason why it gets spread so easily...

Social Engineering - getting someone to do something for you, so you don't have to - e.g. they open a file for you, so you don't have to program the file to open.

  6. If you accept the file, your an idiot basically.  What does it do apart from send itself on though?

    Read up about it - it's a Trojan :S

If you don't know what they are, check out www.viruslist.com for more information....

  7. Yeah my mate tried to send it to me, when I didnt reply it cancelled itself.

Well, *he* didn't try to send it to you - it does it automatically......

I got it from someone who's not on my contact list anymore - but I'm on hers....

  8. Hey

I was 18 on the 20th, and from my dad, I got a nice watch!

So here is the new.. Official.. 'Post A Pic Of Your Watch' topic!

    *Don't pretend you're not excited!*

State what the make and model is, and the price!

Some people like to have expensive watches, some people aren't bothered and they wear anything that tells them the time.. Or some people don't have one at all!

I'm pretty sure there was a topic like this before.. But nevermind

    I'll start..

    AR0116.jpg

    Silver/Black Emporio Armani.. £200

oooo! ooooo! Daddy got me a new expensive watch!...

    Who gives a f!ck?

Just braggin about who's got more money than sense.

    Sad really.

Almost as bad as the little kids saying "My bike's better than yours - and I'm going to start a thread on it"

  9. I agree with the top to, after all they are free, and they work!

Second 2 arnt so important, its should be ok with what you have

PS is very RAM intensive - the more you have, the faster processing data will be - as when the PC runs out of RAM, it uses the hard disk.....which is very slow in comparison.

    "A 3Ghz P4 with 256MB RAM would be slower than a P4 2.2Ghz with 2Gb RAM......"

People seem to think that the faster the CPU, the faster the computer overall..... and only when they read about how PCs work, do they regret spending the extra ££ on a faster CPU instead of more memory.....

  10. I've just spent £20 on a sex tips E-book, I can't wait for my free gadget!

What a load of shit, what idiot would:

    A - Spend £20 on an E-book

B - Not notice that this is a dodgy pyramid scheme

C - Get all their friends to buy E-books so that they get their gadget faster

D - Realise his mistake at buying an E-book and post the link on Trials-Forum*

Oh well, there are stupid people out there,

    Stephen  (Y)

    * Lets hope you didn't actually buy and E-book, and you just wanted to show us this link.

If there are idiots out there, prepared to spend £20 on an e-book, then why not provide them with a service? (Y)

  11. These sites are so funny - you cringe at the amount of sad twats which fall for it.....

I must confess, I ran a site like this for about 6 months. I thought "If someone is prepared to pay £20 for an e-book, then let them - and I want me to be the one which gets their cash." (Y)"

    Was I exploiting them?

No - it was their choice. :D

Did I make a fat profit in very little time, with very little effort?

    Yes. :P

Why don't I do it now?

Business life is a short one, as people realise they're being screwed - too late for many though... and trading on eBay is more honest. (Y)

    :: Phaze ::

And before you ask "How much did you make?" Let's just say "Enough to pay rent for a month"

  12. We also have loads of posts on Computer problems and Counterstrike too...

Should they have their own Forum?

This is a TRIALS forum, and everything else not related to the physical existance of bikes/trials (which includes Photoshopping them!) should be kept in the Chit Chat/New Members forums...

  13. Cheers for that (Y)  I do media studies, but have never come across that before...

Half of my degree (joint honours) is "Digital Culture, Arts & Media" - so that's where I learnt it (Y))

Anyway, why are you still up?

I work as a barman, and finished at 3.30am....
