  1. Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking that a 2 bolt version hold things together at the top, and how much flex can there be between there and the lower mount? Not much I'm guessing (well, educated guessing, I do have an engineering degree after all! lol). Anyone tried both first hand?
  2. Damn it - why am I always busy for these Pompey rides! I missed last Saturdays (I went with my brother on the sunday though), the 3rd I;ve got a suit fitting for a wedding on the 10th (so I miss the ride the following day!!!). Oh well.
  3. Damn - been want to do a big Pompey ride for a while, but I've got a mate's wedding the day before and I'm going to be in no condition to ride the Sunday....
  4. I've recently finished building my stock and have done a few rides. I'm not getting on with the rear brake at all as there is little feeling and too much sponginess (Maguras on 4 bolt mounts). I've been looking at fitting a booster, but I'm unsure whether to go for a 2 or 4 bolt set-up. Please can someone let me know if the 4 bolt ones actually produce a better brake feel, or are the 2 bolt ones sufficient? Cheers.
  5. I've had lots of modified cars - all Astras. A Mk2 1.3 with rally spec suspension and GTE body kit, a Mk2 GTE 16v with 260bhp from a BTCC style engine (featured in Revs, Redline and Total Vauxhall), a Mk3 Astra Sport 16v with Irmscher kit, Mk4 Coupe Turbo with Courtenay Stage 4+ (320bhp) and a Mk5 SRi XP Sport Hatch. Got bored of them all, and I now have a bland and boring Mk4 5 door 2.0 DTi Comfort. I've had it with modified cars to be honest. I've always wanted a 911 and when I looked back at how much I had spent on Astras over the years, I realised I could have bought a 911 3 times over. I'm staying standard for now, but I will get something a bit better than the crap I have now once this wedding is paid for - lol. PS. Wish I had never sold the Mk2 GTE.....

  7. Quite a few people then! I just went out on my first ride in 14 years and I'm knackered!!! Had to cut it short as my new grips worked loose. I started out shaky - I'm guessing I'm getting used to the bike more than anything else. Anyway, managed to get up on the back wheel by pedalling it up, not rocking on the front, then hop up a kerb. Then managed to get over a bench. Not much, but I'm pretty happy considering. I'm going to keep doing small stuff so I get used to the bike and get my balance back, before trying anything bigger.

After a very long break from trials, I'm going out to ride my new stock for the first time on Monday and I'm wondering what tyre pressure I should run - keeping in mind I'm essentially a beginner. I have a 2.4 Rubber Queen at the rear and a 2.2 Mountain King at the front. I have a pretty standard light front inner tube and at the rear a downhill tube - although a slightly light one. I'm about 12.5 stone and class myself as a pretty light rider, although as a beginner, I'll be prone to making mistakes. Recommendations would be great. Cheers. For a bit of fun, I'm going to guess at around 35 psi front and rear. Let see how far off I am.
  10. Back then a trials bike was a XC bike with the saddle down and the big ring removed. My whole front wheel only weighed 620grams and had 28 spokes! But the main thing is the technique - that has changed a lot. It focuses a lot more on manoeuvres from the back wheel. In that video I'm essentially doing a 32" bunny hop onto that ledge. These days you would just hop on the back wheel along side it and hope straight up. This sort of technique was just being developed as I stopped riding. Oh - I'm now about 2 stone heavier than I was back then!!

That used to be known by me and my mates as Skelly Woods, it was next to Orchard Lea School in Fareham - not sure if it was known as anything else, as I don't believe it had an official name. I don't think you can access it now. BMXers did ammend the slopes in order to create better jumps there.
  12. I've already put together a stock - always did trials on 26" before. There is a link to a video from 1993 in my sig - I did trials for another few years after the video was taken and got much better. Fingers crossed it will all come back to me. It is my birthday on Monday and my bro is buying me a decent helmet. I'll be heading out later that day to try it all out .... should be interesting.
  13. Are there many other people on here around my age? I'll be 34 next week and I'm starting to feel old!!! This is one of the reasons for getting back into trials after about a 12 year break form it - I need to get fit. I'd rate myself as a beginner again though, although I hope to pick it back up quickly again. Somehow I don't think I'm bounce off the ground as well as I used to.
