it's become clear that the closing date has been overlooked by some of you it's was set very early because all your entry passes have to be posted from Scotland to me then to you. last year it was problem and we were having to find people on the day to give them their passes. So.................... for those who've suffered lethargy any entries received before Fri 19th will be accepted, just be prepared to come and find me for your tickets

Not sure if I mentioned this.................. Those entering the comp, its on the Saturday, get a free pass in to the venue so as they can enjoy the Downhill on Sunday. I will be in the venue area next week. If I get time I plan to explore in an effort to come up with some new natural. The main event organisers have been busy mailing local companies asking for help with supply of pipes or large tyres, pretty well anything that will go to make 2006 even better.

Those of you who have checked out the entry form will know that the competition is on Saturday, this is to give everyone a chance to watch the Downhill final on Sunday. Monday is a Bank Holiday, so no need to rush home on Sunday night, so what shall we do? What about a gap + step comp in the town centre? We all know that it will draw a crowd and there should be a party atmosphere in F.W. after the main event. Comments and further suggestions welcome.

A date for your diary, Saturday 27th May 2006, venue – Fort William. Last years Scottish one day Trial, held in conjunction with the UCI Downhill World Cup, was considered by many to be an outstanding success. The format will remain the same for 2006 with a mixture of both natural and man made sections. The organisers are already working to provide an even greater variety of section materials for this year’s competition. Hopefully this year’s event will attract even more riders; those entering can look forward to a great experience. Well, before this goes any further and people, (JIX), are tempted to speculate upon matters they don’t understand I would like to set the record straight. On behalf of BikeTrial U.K. I am obliged to inspect the sections that the clerk of the course has set and if necessary make recommendations. Why is this done? Its because two heads are better than one, a third party, (me), can often point out a potential risk that may have been missed. I am there to make recommendations which the clerk of the course may or may not act on. I have to confess that I have been guilty of putting some tape round markers to help speed up the marking out process, if this is seen as giving a rider I am associated with an advantage I’ll stop doing that in future and the others on site can get on with it. The marks in some of the classes were very close and to separate final positions the rule book had to be consulted. The rules for BikeTrial are printed in the ACU handbook; the committee are obliged to carry them out in every respect. Organiser cannot decide to apply one rule and ignore another, unless supplementary rules are shown on the entry form. It transpired that one competitor’s bike did not conform to the regulations, therefore the organisers have no choice but to consider the situation, that is being done. All licence holders have a copy of the rules and upon entering a competition hosted by the ACU, run to the rules set out by the U.K. committee, entrants agree to abide by the rules as set. There is nothing personal about this, if you want to compete you have to abide by the rules and if you don’t then organisers have no choice but to consider the situation and make a decision. PARTZ; A reply to both your posts, (your question in Trials chat). Competitors will need a licence from British cycling. All NBTC members already have licences; new members will receive them free during 2006. We could have split up the accumulative costs to mask the final cost, for example, £15 entry, £10 licence, £5 to camp, £X’s token payment to ride at the venue on Saturday and on and on………………… In addition competitors may also camp for free on Friday night. Entry fee for the competition is £20 Club membership is £10. At the worst way a new rider will have to join NBTC, but other events are to follow, UCI National championships Trials event, World cup Downhill Trials event, etc, so it’s not just a one off payment. A licence is your ticket to insurance cover, plus a commitment on your behalf to abide by the rules of the competition you are taking part in. No doubt there are other possible ways to approach the organisation of competitions, but the Club membership – licence holding regime is tried and tested. Organisers also need the safety net of insurance in case of litigation over an accident. No one in their right mind would set out or ride in an event without good back up from a reputable licence issuing sporting body. Its surprising that so many ask “why do we need a licence?” but very few ask “what insurance benefits come with a particular licence?” Out of interest what pre conceived ideas of entry fees did you have?

NBTC have just confirmed that they will be running a Trials competition in conjunction with the first round of the U.K. Downhill national series. The venue will be at Corris in North Wales 8th and 9th of April. The Comp will be on Sunday but entrants can train for free at the venue on Saturday. Camping is free plus empty toilets! This is a great opportunity for Trials riders to mix with riders from another discipline, the Downhill course is truly spectacular, run over a huge expanse of Welsh hillside with scary gradients, bog and exposed rockery – should be good to watch after the Trial. No doubt other “facilities” will be available on site to assist with Saturday night’s party. Entry forms will be available soon – potentially looks like a great weekend!!!!!!!

If you are one of the few that failed to include the necessary envelops I suggest you email you address to ucitrial@hotmail.co.uk Without a pass you will not be able to gain access to the site unless you pay to get in. The format for the event was decided long ago, Kenny may have cleaned Graz, but check out his score in the last BIU round. Apart from that we don't expect any UCI international Elite riders to attend, so why lay out sections for those that will not be there? Our event is designed to give Brits a chance to sample the UCI format. Unlike a normal UCI final competitors will have 21 sections to ride, not just 8, which is unpopular with many. This event is about having a good time in, for most, a new enviroment. Finding a camp site may prove difficult as close on 20.000 people flock to the event. If your having trouble contact the tourist board office in Fort William.

I expect that for many of those, either riding or helping out, it will be their first experience of a combined World Cup event, so here’s the program.
